Letter to the Judges

  1. 1. 238 Hampton Station BoulevardCanton, GA 30115April 19, 2012Judges, Senior ProjectCreekview High School1550 Owens Store RoadCanton, GA 30115Dear Judges:My name is Nicole Torralba. Since I was young, I have always had a passion formedicine. I revel in the sciences and I greatly enjoy helping others. I am an avidsupporter of organizations that endeavor to find cures for diseases. For my Senior Project,I organized and spearheaded a Muscular Dystrophy Walk-a-thon. This allowed me toraise money for those in need and lend a helping hand to individuals in my community. My product was the Muscular Dystrophy Walk-a-thon. Through generous donations andthe success of the event, I was able to raise $2,400 for the research for the cure ofMuscular Dystrophy. Through my research, I was able to have a better understanding ofwhat Muscular Dystrophy really is. I was more aware of what individuals encounter on adaily basis and it inspired me to make my event as successful as possible. One of thebiggest obstacles that I had to overcome to achieve my product was to change thelocation of my Walk-a-thon. Due to inclement weather conditions, I was forced to movemy Walk-a-thon from the track to the high school cafeteria. Regardless of this change, Imanaged to still raise a sufficient amount of money to help further the cause of theMuscular Dystrophy.I plan to attend the University of Georgia in the fall where I am going to major in pre-pharmacy on the track to becoming a doctor. The senior project made me realize that Iwant to continue pursuing a profession in the medical field. It has opened my eyes to theworld around me and has made me appreciate the many blessings in my life. I want toserve as an inspiration for others and save lives and by being a doctor, I will be able tomake an impact in the world. I learned so much about myself throughout this wholeprocess, but mainly I learned that I have a chance to make a difference in the world.Overall, I thought the senior project had its positives and negatives. What I disliked aboutthe project was that it was very stressful at times. Achieving my final product took a lotof planning and time. Although the project was very arduous, I still found it to be anenriching experience. I learned a lot about my work ethic and it helped solidify my futureplans. I believe that this project was very beneficial because not only did I learn a lotabout myself from it, but I was able to contribute to my community and help those inneed. Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to judge mypresentation and I appreciate your interest in my project.
