INDO-JAPAN STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP
DURABLE AND RELIABLE
he Indo-Japanese friendship is
as durable as any Japanese prod-
uct and as valuable as emotional
relations, in India. The friend-
ship between India and Japan
has history of 1,400 years based
on spiritual affiliation and
strong cultural similarities. Con-
tacts between India and Japan
began some 1,400 years ago when
Buddhism spread upto Japan
and during these 14 centuries,
the two countries have never
been adversaries/rivals. Over
the years, the two countries have
built upon these values and cre-
ated a partnership based on prin-
ciples and pragmatism.
GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP
IN 21st CENTURY
India’s relationship with Japan
is on a very strong and stable
pedestal. Both countries share
democratic and pro-peace, pro-
people outlook and easily qual-
ify to be natural allies. The In-
dia-Japan relationship, founded
on the principle of mutual trust
and benefit has gained strategic
prominence in 21st Century. In
the geostrategic context, Indian
and Japanese security percep-
tions converge in the region
with common apprehensions
about China. Both countries un-
derstand the WIN –WIN equa-
tion of this global partnership.
QUAD
The Indo-Pacific region emerges
as a centre of global strategic
importance. Initially, it started
as a humanitarian partnership
in 2004, QUAD initiative has de-
veloped as an important forum
to address the security issues in
the Indo-Pacific region, today.
The geographic positioning pro-
vides great strategic advantage
to both countries (India & Ja-
pan) against China and they are
set to play a pivotal role in Indo-
Pacific region, under the um-
brella of QUAD.
ECONOMIC COOPERATION
India and Japan had very good
bilateral trade relations in the
past. Japan’s interest in India is
increasing due to a variety of
reasons including India’s large
and growing market and its vast
resources, especially the human
resources. Suzuki Motor Corpo-
ration’s path breaking invest-
mentinIndiain1980srevolution-
izedtheautomobilesector,bring-
ing in advanced technology and
management skills to India. The
trade imbalance between India
and Japan is narrowing gradu-
ally with Indian exports to Japan
rising each year. Economic rela-
tions between India and Japan
have vast potential for growth,
given the complementarities.
INFRASTRUCTURE
Present Indian Government’s
quest to create world class infra-
structure in the country already
has significant Japanese foot-
prints. India has been the larg-
est recipient of Japanese loans
in the last decade. Delhi Metro
is one of the most successful ex-
amples of Japanese coopera-
tion. Presently, six Metro Rail
projects are being implemented
with technical and financial
support from Japan. Besides,
Japan wishes to build High-
Speed Railway in India as the
flagship project of Japan-India
friendship. Post COVID, large
number of Japanese industry
are gradually shifting their
manufacturing bases from Chi-
na. India with new infrastruc-
ture, is well poised to provide a
robust alternative.
DEFENCE ALLIANCE
Geopolitics in the Indo-Pacific is
in a state of flux and new con-
tours are emerging post COVID
and in the backdrop of Ukraine
war. Rise of China has contrib-
uted to the changing equation
between India and Japan. India
and Japan in their respective re-
gionsarenavalpowersof repute.
Indiawithitsdominantstrategic
location and a strong navy as-
pires to be a net security provid-
er in the Indian Ocean Region.
In 2022, 2+2 Dialogue between
the Foreign and Defence Minis-
ters of both the countries was
held at New Delhi. India has this
arrangement of 2+2 Dialogue
only with USA and Now, with
Japan. In the last decade, all the
three components of armed
forces have started to engage in
bilateral joint exercises. The
frequency of such engagements
is increasing every year. Joint
training exercises by QUAD
members are giving sleepless
nights to powers in Beijing.
RECENT SYNERGY IN
RELATIONS
India and Japan relationship
has significantly advanced over
the past decade. Convergences in
geo-economic and geo-strategic
interests in the Indo-Pacific have
brought the two countries closer
than ever before. Japanese
Prime Minister Mr Fumio Kishi-
da recently visited India in
March 2023 and announced a
new plan for a ‘free and open
Indo-Pacific’ pledging $75 billion
to assist the economies in the
region, by 2030. Both Modi and
Kishida welcomed the formula-
tion of a roadmap to further pro-
mote industrial cooperation be-
tween the two countries.
CONCLUSION

cal “Centre of Gravity” shifts to
the Indo-Pacific and Asia from

tury

CM Gehlot writes to PM Modi seeking change in
rules for Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana
Naresh Sharma
Jaipur: Chief Minister
Ashok Gehlot has writ-
ten a letter to Prime
Minister Narendra
Modi and requested to
abolish the adjustment
of the assistance given
to farmers from SDRF
for crop failure with the
amount received in the
Pradhan Mantri Fasal
Bima Yojana.
“Calculating the in-
sured amount to be re-
ceived by farmers dur-
ing calamities from
Pradhan Mantri Fasal
Bima Yojana is a com-
plex and lengthy pro-
cess. This leads to delay
in disbursement of
SDRF assistance while
farmers have to raise
funds for next crop im-
mediately after crop
failure. Before rule of
adjustment, farmers
could have been given
quick financial assis-
tance under SDRF. The
purpose of SDRF is not
being fulfilled due to de-
lay in assistance under
new rule. Therefore, by
deleting new rules, as-
sistance received under
SDRF should be given
as an immediate assis-
tance,” Gehlot said.
CM says that due to
this farmers are not
getting quick help
for crop damage

BJP is destroying constitutional values of country.” He also

NON-BRAHMIN TO BE BJYM PREZ
Political circles are abuzz with the gossip that a non-Brahmin
leader would be made the new state president of Yuva
Morcha to balance the caste equation. The names of Vikas
Chaudhary, Rajesh Gurjar, Mahendra Shekhawat, Abhimanyu
Singh Rajvi, JP Yadav, Shankar Gaura, Rajkumar Biwal, Rajesh
Meena and Anand Singh are being considered for the appoint-
ment. A surprising name may also come from Kumawat or
Saini community. Though there is a rider of age of 35 years, but
if anyone from the MLAs is made the state president of BJYM,
then Manjeet Dharmpal Chaudhary can be considered.

RBI APPLIES BRAKE ON REPO RATE HIKE
Mumbai (ANI): TheRe-
serve Bank of India, in
its first monetary policy
review meeting in 2023-
24, decided to keep the
key benchmark interest
rate — the repo rate —
unchanged at 6.5 per
cent with readiness to
act should the situation
so warrant, Governor
Shaktikanta Das an-
nounced on Thursday
.
The central bank con-
ducts six bi-monthly re-
views of its monetary
policyinafinancialyear.
Five out of six members
of MPC voted to remain
focused on the policy
stance of ‘withdrawal of
accommodation’ to en-
sure inflation aligns
with the target while fo-
cusing on growth, RBI
Governor Shaktikanta
Das said at the post-
meeting remarks.
Shaktikanta Das-
headed Monetary Poli-
cy Committee (MPC)
conducted its three-day
meeting on April 3,
April 5 and April 6 even
as the central bank has
raised the repo rate by
250 basis points cumu-
latively since May 2022.
At the last MPC meet-
ing of the RBI in early
February
, it decided to
raise the repo rate by 25
basis points to 6.5 per
centtomanageinflation.
Raising interest rates
is a monetary policy in-
strument that typically
helps suppress demand
in the economy, thereby
helping the inflation
rate decline.
Retail inflation had
again been staying
above the RBI’s toler-
ance limit of 6 per cent
for two consecutive
months since January.
In February, India’s re-
tail inflation stood at
6.44 per cent, while in
January, it was at 6.52
per cent.
India’s retail infla-
tion was above RBI’s 6
per cent target for three
consecutive quarters
and had managed to fall
back to the RBI’s com-
fort zone only in No-
vember 2022.
5 out of 6 members
of the MPC voted to
remain focused on
the policy stance

Dharmendra Pradhan @dpradhanbjp SPIRITUAL SPEAK Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. —Bible TOP TWEETS Good to talk to FM @ JoaoCravinho of Portugal. Our discussions covered bilateral and multilateral issues. Dr. S. Jaishankar @DrSJaishankar INDO-JAPAN STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP DURABLE AND RELIABLE he Indo-Japanese friendship is as durable as any Japanese prod- uct and as valuable as emotional relations, in India. The friend- ship between India and Japan has history of 1,400 years based on spiritual affiliation and strong cultural similarities. Con- tacts between India and Japan began some 1,400 years ago when Buddhism spread upto Japan and during these 14 centuries, the two countries have never been adversaries/rivals. Over the years, the two countries have built upon these values and cre- ated a partnership based on prin- ciples and pragmatism. GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP IN 21st CENTURY India’s relationship with Japan is on a very strong and stable pedestal. Both countries share democratic and pro-peace, pro- people outlook and easily qual- ify to be natural allies. The In- dia-Japan relationship, founded on the principle of mutual trust and benefit has gained strategic prominence in 21st Century. In the geostrategic context, Indian and Japanese security percep- tions converge in the region with common apprehensions about China. Both countries un- derstand the WIN –WIN equa- tion of this global partnership. QUAD The Indo-Pacific region emerges as a centre of global strategic importance. Initially, it started as a humanitarian partnership in 2004, QUAD initiative has de- veloped as an important forum to address the security issues in the Indo-Pacific region, today. The geographic positioning pro- vides great strategic advantage to both countries (India & Ja- pan) against China and they are set to play a pivotal role in Indo- Pacific region, under the um- brella of QUAD. ECONOMIC COOPERATION India and Japan had very good bilateral trade relations in the past. Japan’s interest in India is increasing due to a variety of reasons including India’s large and growing market and its vast resources, especially the human resources. Suzuki Motor Corpo- ration’s path breaking invest- mentinIndiain1980srevolution- izedtheautomobilesector,bring- ing in advanced technology and management skills to India. The trade imbalance between India and Japan is narrowing gradu- ally with Indian exports to Japan rising each year. Economic rela- tions between India and Japan have vast potential for growth, given the complementarities. INFRASTRUCTURE Present Indian Government’s quest to create world class infra- structure in the country already has significant Japanese foot- prints. India has been the larg- est recipient of Japanese loans in the last decade. Delhi Metro is one of the most successful ex- amples of Japanese coopera- tion. Presently, six Metro Rail projects are being implemented with technical and financial support from Japan. Besides, Japan wishes to build High- Speed Railway in India as the flagship project of Japan-India friendship. Post COVID, large number of Japanese industry are gradually shifting their manufacturing bases from Chi- na. India with new infrastruc- ture, is well poised to provide a robust alternative. DEFENCE ALLIANCE Geopolitics in the Indo-Pacific is in a state of flux and new con- tours are emerging post COVID and in the backdrop of Ukraine war. Rise of China has contrib- uted to the changing equation between India and Japan. India and Japan in their respective re- gionsarenavalpowersof repute. Indiawithitsdominantstrategic location and a strong navy as- pires to be a net security provid- er in the Indian Ocean Region. In 2022, 2+2 Dialogue between the Foreign and Defence Minis- ters of both the countries was held at New Delhi. India has this arrangement of 2+2 Dialogue only with USA and Now, with Japan. In the last decade, all the three components of armed forces have started to engage in bilateral joint exercises. The frequency of such engagements is increasing every year. Joint training exercises by QUAD members are giving sleepless nights to powers in Beijing. RECENT SYNERGY IN RELATIONS India and Japan relationship has significantly advanced over the past decade. Convergences in geo-economic and geo-strategic interests in the Indo-Pacific have brought the two countries closer than ever before. Japanese Prime Minister Mr Fumio Kishi- da recently visited India in March 2023 and announced a new plan for a ‘free and open Indo-Pacific’ pledging $75 billion to assist the economies in the region, by 2030. Both Modi and Kishida welcomed the formula- tion of a roadmap to further pro- mote industrial cooperation be- tween the two countries. CONCLUSION The world’s economic and politi- cal “Centre of Gravity” shifts to the Indo-Pacific and Asia from USA and Europe in the 21st Cen- tury . The geopolitics of the this regionisundergoingrapid trans- formation due to the complex in- terplays amongst regional and global powers. In these strategic calculations of the Indo-Pacific geopolitics,Indiacanbe‘anindis- pensablepartner’.China’saggres- sive designs in regional issues may propel both India and Japan to find more synergy to jointly cope up with this new challenge. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL The geopolitics of the this region is undergoing rapid transformation due to the complex interplays amongst regional and global powers. In these strategic calculations of the Indo-Pacific geopolitics, India can be ‘an indispensable partner’. China’s aggressive designs in regional issues may propel both India and Japan to find more synergy to jointly cope up with this new challenge The Indo-Japanese friendship is as durable as any Japanese product and as valuable as emotional relations, in India. The friendship between India and Japan has history of 1,400 years based on spiritual affiliation and strong cultural similarities. Over the years, the two countries have built upon these values and created a partnership based on principles and pragmatism Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits Buddha Jayanti Park with the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida, in New Delhi on March 20. Renu Pathak, na- tional general secretary of the organisation, said to media that more than 4,000 repre- sentatives of voluntary service organisations will attend an event based on the theme of “Self-reliant and Prosperous India” from April 7 to 9. P4 CM Gehlot writes to PM Modi seeking change in rules for Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana Naresh Sharma Jaipur: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has writ- ten a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and requested to abolish the adjustment of the assistance given to farmers from SDRF for crop failure with the amount received in the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. “Calculating the in- sured amount to be re- ceived by farmers dur- ing calamities from Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana is a com- plex and lengthy pro- cess. Before rule of adjustment, farmers could have been given quick financial assis- tance under SDRF. The purpose of SDRF is not being fulfilled due to de- lay in assistance under new rule.
