BJP releases ‘sting’ clip to claim
AAP selling ticket for MCD polls
New Delhi (Agencies):
The BJP Monday re-
leased a sting video shot
purportedly by a former
Aam Aadmi Party vol-
unteer from north west
Delhi’s Rohini to allege
the AAP sold tickets for
MCD polls.
AAP MLA Dilip Pan-
dey rejected the sting
video as “fake”.
The AAP and its
chief Arvind Kejriwal
are deeply involved in
corruption, BJP nation-
al spokesperson Sambit
Patra alleged at a press
conference here, play-
ing the purported sting
video.
The video was pur-
portedly shot by former
AAP volunteer Bindu
who was allegedly de-
mandedRs80lakhforan
AAP ticket from the Ro-
hini D ward in the MCD
polls, Patra alleged.
The video shows
Bindu purportedly dis-
cussing the payment of
money with some pur-
ported AAP leaders in-
cluding its North West
Delhi Lok Sabha in-
charge RR Pathania and
Rohini Assembly con-
stituency incharge coor-
dinator Punit Goel,
Patra claimed.
Patra claimed “These
leaders including Patha-
nia and Goel have links
withafive-membercom-
mittee of the AAP that
was associated with
ticket distribution. AAP
minister Gopal Rai,
MLAs Durgesh Pathak,
Saurabh Bhardwaj and
Atishi as well as Adil
Khan are its members,”
he said.
Patra also said the
stingvideorevealedthat
110 tickets of the AAP
were reserved for distri-
bution on the basis of a
payment.
Responding to charg-
es, AAP’s Dilip Pandey
said the party’s tickets
for MCD polls were
much sought after.
“There are many touts
who got active. Touts got
active but no tickets
were given on the basis
of money
. The BJP did
not do anything. The
AAP is not BJP or Con-
gress where tickets are
distributed to those who
pay money
,” he said.
Ensure broadcast based on official press releases: HC to news channels
New Delhi (ANI): The
Delhi High Court on
Monday directed news
channels to adhere to
the guidelines govern-
ing them and to ensure
that all broadcasts car-
ried while reporting liq-
uor scam case are based
on official press releases
by the investigation
agencies.
The bench also issued
notice to 5 channels im-
pleaded by Vijay Nair.
Heallegedthatthesensi-
tive information related
is being leaked to the
media. While hearing
the petition moved by
businessmanVijayNair,
the bench of Justice

the above directions.
The matter has been
listed on February 7,
2023. The bench also pe-
rused the status report
and heard the submis-
sions made by the coun-
sel for the CBI and ED.
The counsel for CBI
submitted that the agen-
cy issued 3 press releas-
es. The press releases do
not contain what has
been broadcast.
ED’s counsel said that
they did not issue any
press releases.
Justice Verma asked
the counsels, Where
fromtheyaregettingthe
information?
The counsel replied
that the channels only
answer this.
Advocate Nisha
Bhambhani,thecounsel
for News Broadcaster
andDigitalStandardAu-
thority (NBDSA) sub-
mitted that some of the
channels are not our
partners. We are not
monitoring what they
broadcast.
“If self-regulation is a
mereeyewash,thenwhy
should we not disband
you?,” Justice Varma
asked the counsel for
NBDSA while express-
ing displeasure over the
reporting made by news
channels.
The bench asked the
counsel about certain
channels and whether
they are members or
not. Where from they
are getting the informa-
tionrelatedtodisclosure
made to CBI? You call
them and ask them. The
counsel for NBDA said,
“I can communicate and
ask them to remove the
content.”
The counsel submit-
ted that some channels
are members of News
Broadcaster and Digital
Association (NBDA). I
won’t be able to tell
where from they are get-
ting the information.
After noting the submis-
sion the bench directed
to Implead NBDA and

‘KEJRIWAL KI SARKAR, KEJRIWAL

New Delhi (PTI) :
Deputy Chief Minis-
ter Manish Sisodia
on Monday said the
BJP has “no vision”
for the civic body as
he announced a new
campaign for his par-
ty to “alert voters” to
choose the Aam Aad-
mi Party in the MCD
polls. The BJP has
done nothing in the
past 15 years in the
Municipal Corpora-
tion of Delhi and has
no vision for the next
five years as well, he
told reporters. “But,
we gave a vision to
fix civic problems.
The AAP is going to
win this polls. So, if
you want work to be
done in your ward,
pick an AAP council-
lor as if a BJP coun-
cillor will be there in
your ward that per-
son will try to ob-
struct work since the
AAP will be in power
in MCD,” Sisodia
claimed.
“So, a new cam-
paign ‘Kejriwal ki

launched to alert
people to pick AAP

New Delhi (PTI): A
PIL was filed in the Del-
hi High Court on Mon-
day seeking a direction
to transfer the investi-
gation into the Shrad-
dha Walkar murder
case from Delhi Police
to the CBI, alleging that
presence of media and
public at places of re-
covery amounts to tam-
pering of evidence.
The petition, which is
likely to be listed for
hearing on Wednesday,
alleged that so far the
Delhi Police has re-
vealed each and every
detail to the media and
public regarding the
investigation which is
not permitted under
the law.
It claimed that the al-
leged place of incident
has not been sealed by
the Delhi Police till date
which is continuously
being accessed by the
public and media per-
sonnel.
Walkar was mur-
dered by 28-year-old
Aaftab Poonawala, who
sawed her body into 35
pieces and dumped the
body parts across the
city over several days
past midnight.
“The incident of
murder is alleged to
have been taken place
in Delhi and thereafter
the body parts have
been alleged to have dis-
posed at different plac-
es, thus investigation of
Police Station Mehrauli
cannot be efficiently be
carried out due to ad-
ministrative/ staff pau-
city as well as lack of
sufficient technical and
scientific equipment to
find out the evidences
and the witnesses as the
incident had taken
place about six months
back in May, 2022,” the
petition filed by Joshini
Tuli submitted.
The plea, filed
through advocate
Joginder Tuli, claimed
that sensitive details of
the investigation by the
Delhi Police have so far
been revealed to public
persons through the
media which has lead to
tampering of sensitive
evidence.
“The presence of
media and other pub-
lic persons at the place
of recoveries, court
hearings etc. Of any
accused amounts to in-
terference with the
evidence and witness-
es in the present case,”
it alleged.

“The narco test on

were also treated (root
canal) in Mumbai.
The doctor said that
the Delhi Police team
had also brought the in-
vestigation report of
Mumbai along with
them.
“The police had come
to us only to take a sec-
ond opinion,” the doctor
said.
According to sources,
the police are investigat-

“The police believe
that Aftab used more

POLICE MOVE APPLICATION FOR
AAFTAB’S POLYGRAPH TEST
New Delhi (PTI):
The Delhi police on
Monday moved an ap-
plication in court
here for conducting a
polygraph test on
Aaftab Amin Poon-
awala, who is ac-
cused of brutally kill-
ing his live-in partner
six months ago.
Metropolitan Mag-
istrate Aviral Shukla
referred the matter to

The court had on
Thursday directed
the city police to com-
plete the narco analy-
sis test within five
days while making it
clear that it cannot
use any third-degree
measure on him. The
application was
moved on Monday on
the ground that Poon-
awala is providing
incorrect informa-
tion and misleading
police, a court source
said.
Narco-analysis is a

AMERICA IN NO

ON LAW, ORDER
he United States of
America may be the
world’s richest and
most developed coun-
try but its gun cul-
ture and narrow mindset to-
wards different social groups
like women, Blacks and the LG-
BTQ. For women the US may not
be as safe as it is perceived to be.
According to World Population
Review’s latest rape statistics,
number of rapes or sexual as-
sault varies from one state to
another but the average worked
out to one rape every 1-2 min-
utes. Women aged 16-19 years are
more likely to be victims of rape.
Last Saturday night at least
five people were killed in a
shooting incident at an LGBTQ
club in Colorado taking the
number of deaths in mass shoot-
ings to over 601 this year. Blacks
have also been victims of such
shootings. With over a month
still remaining in 2022, it may
catch up with last year’s toll of
692. The US is in no position to
lecture any county on rule of
law, but it does.

sion of the Su-
preme collegium over the

Court lawyers have been on
strike over the transfer of
Justice Nikhil S Kariel to the
Patna High Court calling the
collegium’s decision as “the
death of judiciary’s inde-
pendence” and even observed
two minutes’ silence in
mourning. Lawyers claim
that it is a “penal transfer”
and described the judge as
independent, balanced and
clean. They see no reason for
Justice Kariel’s transfer to
Patna and conveyed their ob-
jections to the Chief Justice
of India Justice DY Chandra-
chud when they met him on
Monday
.
Neither the Union Law
Minister Kiren Rijiju nor
Justice Chandrachud had
sounded encouraging of the
move. Law Minister Rijiju
deprecated the action by law-
yers and said at a function
organised by the Bar Council
of India that “if it becomes a
recurring instance for every
decision by the collegium,
which is supported by the
government, then where will
it lead to”? Justice Chandra-
chud also did not appreciate
lawyers questioning the col-
legium’s decision and said
that decisions are taken
keeping in view “the national
perspective”.
Justice Chandrachud told
the lawyers that the issue
would be duly examined. Is
that setting a precedent?
Right or wrong, lawyers must
defer to the collegium’s deci-
sions on transfer and eleva-
tion of judges. They should
not avoid acting like a trade
union to seek reversal of the
collegium’s decisions.

India will host the G-20
Leaders’ Summit at the level
of Heads of State/
Government on 9th and
10th September 2023, in
New Delhi. Under its
Presidency, India is
expected to host over 200
meetings across India,
commencing from December
2022. As indicated by
Indian PM, it’s going to be
Impeccable and Uniquely
‘Indian’ G-20, and this
mega event will be
conducted closer to the lives
of the people of India
making it ‘People’s G-20’
he G-20 or Group of Twenty
was created in 1999 as an ac-
ceptable medium between
the more “elitist” G-7 and the
more unwieldy 38-member
Organisation for Economic
Co-operation and Develop-
ment (OECD). The formation
of the G-20 is more so linked
to the disappointment of the
international community
over the failure of the G-7 in
finding solutions to the prob-
lems of the global economy.
The middle-income coun-
tries and those with systemic
economic influence in the
negotiations to find solutions
to global economic problems
became imminent. Over the
past two decades, the global
economic balance has shift-
ed, and the G-20 has been
seen as a more representa-
tive and egalitarian grouping
of global leadership, and was
particularly useful in steer-
ing the global economy after
the financing crisis and
banking collapse of 2008. Sig-
nificantly, the “Troika” of
G-20 will be made up of
emerging economies for the
first time with India, Indone-
sia and Brazil - an indicator
of the shift in the global eco-
nomic agenda towards the
Global South. While G-7 is
generally engaging more in
political and security- relat-
ed issues, the G-20 primarily
focuses on global economic
and finance governance.
G-20 is the premier forum
for international economic
cooperation representing
around 85% of the global
GDP, over 75% of the world-
wide trade, and about two-
thirds of the world popula-
tion. The G-20 is an intergov-
ernmental forum comprising
19 countries and the Europe-
an Union. It works to address
major issues related to the
global economy
, such as inter-
national financial stability,
climate change mitigation,
and sustainable development.
The members of the G-20 are:
Argentina, Australia, Brazil,
Canada, China, France, Ger-
many, India, Indonesia, Italy,
Japan, Republic of Korea,
Mexico, Russia, Saudi Ara-
bia, South Africa, Turkey
, the
United Kingdom, the United
States, and the European Un-
ion. The G-20 is divided into
two channels, namely the fi-
nancial track and the Sherpa
track. The financial channel,
specifically addresses a num-
ber of agendas related to the
financial sector.
Bali Summit 15-16 Nov
2022: The motto of recently
concluded Bali Summit in
Indonesia was ‘Recover To-
gether, Recover Stronger’.
Recovery from the pandemic
was major focus despite geo-
political tensions overshad-
owing the summit. The Bali
Summit focuses on a durable
recovery multilateral action
on climate, debt, taxation,
and pandemic preparedness.
The Bali Declaration ac-
knowledged differences over
Russia-Ukraine war, but
most members strongly con-
demned it and opined that it
is essential to uphold inter-
national law and multilateral
system that safeguards peace
and stability
. Prime Minister
Narendra Modi’s mantra “to-
day’s era must not be of war”
resonated in the joint decla-
ration or communiqué is-
sued after the G-20 Summit.
INDIA’S PRESIDENCY:
DEC 2022 - NOV 2023
India has been a member of
the G-20 since its inception in
1999. As an important mem-
ber of the grouping, India
ensured that its perspective
on issues of vital national
importance did not go un-
heard in the global financial
narrative. India will be as-
suming chairmanship of the
G-20 for one year from 01 De-
cember 22. This is a matter of
pride for every Indian and an
opportunity for the country
to emerge as a leader to solve
some of the most pressing is-
sues facing humanity today.
However, India’s Presidency
comes at a watershed mo-
ment coinciding with a peri-
od of global flux. The global
community is facing multi-
ple political and economic
challenges.
India’s three guiding prin-
ciples going into the G-20
Presidency are: - First, serv-
ing as a bridge between the
developed and developing
world, second, serving as the
representative of the eastern
bloc of nations and third, in-
sulating the G-20 from some
of the divisive pressures that
have paralysed multilateral-
ism elsewhere.
INDIA’S MAJOR
OPPORTUNITIES AND
CHALLENGES
Evolve a clear G-20 policy on
Russia- Ukraine war ending
the conflict, preventing fur-
ther isolation of Russia in
the forum.
Focus on inclusive, equita-
ble and sustainable growth;
LiFE (Lifestyle for Environ-
ment); women’s empower-
ment; digital public infra-
structure and tech-enabled
development. The Indian PM
Modi’s vision of Vasudhaiva
Kutumbakam - “One Earth,
One Family, One Future”
with focus being “ principle
of ‘data for devp’ of all.
The after-effects of the
pandemic and economic re-
covery have been worsened
in the wake of Russia –
Ukraine war and needs
global co-operation to re-
store normalcy. While the
overall focus will have to be
on sustainable economic
growth but need to chalk out
a roadmap to deal with the
economic situation in col-
laboration with the IMF,
OECD, WTO, and the Finan-
cial Stability Board.
Climate financing is an-
other area that India has to
work on with the affluent na-
tions. The developed coun-
tries have to be prodded for
transfer of clean technolo-
gies and renewable energies
to medium and low-income
countries.

“Now, the Congress

said, adding that he
swallows such insults
because his focus is to

Elections to the Guja-

said people who were

“Some people are doing

on Sunday chose
to go to ‘Kamalam’,
the Bharatiya Janata
Party headquarters
in Gandhinagar and
spend some time
with party workers
and colleagues. While
his sudden visit was
surprising for many,
it was a pleasant
meeting for quite a few
who spent a couple
of decades working
for the party. Sources
told ANI that it was
a “light and fun”
conversation as the
Prime Minister walked
into the Kamalam
office and instead of
going into a room,
he chose to sit in the
open area and on the
benches. Initially, only
a few people who were
working in the party
office late in the night
came and welcomed
the Prime Minister.

Mumbai (PTI): Rating
agencies Crisil and Icra on
Monday revised down their
India growth projections
for the current fiscal and

“The external scenario
is likely to continue to be
unfavourable for some
time. Hence, we must
broad-base our domestic
economy by creating new
sectors of growth and driv-
ing employment genera-
tion to boost domestic de-
mand, inclusion, and

jiv Bajaj said.
The Confederation of In-
dian Industry (CII), which
was part of the virtual pre-

an aggressive focus on pri-
vatisation of public sector
units and increasing allo-
cation to capital expendi-
ture with focus on an in-
vestment led growth strat-
egy to pump India’s econo-
my amidst the global un-

.
To boost job creation, CII
suggested that an employ-
ment linked incentive
scheme be introduced and
the government could con-
sider an urban employ-
ment guarantee scheme
and initiate a pilot in metro
cities first in this Budget.
“Going forward, to pro-
vide tax certainty to busi-
nesses, the corporate tax
rates should be maintained
at the current levels.
“Further simplification,
rationalisation, ease of
paying taxes, and reducing
tax litigation should be key
priorities,” the CII presi-
dent said. Industry body
PHDCCI also submitted its
suggestions for the Budget
to the finance minister vir-

.
It suggested a five-
pronged strategy to revital-
ise the private investments
through measures to en-
hance consumption, in-
crease capacity utilisation
in factories, boost job crea-

accelerate India’s econom-

Bharti Kisan Union
(Ekta Sidhupur) presi-

wal on Monday said he
would continue his fast
unto death till the Pun-
jab government comes
up with a resolution to
the various demands of
farmers.
Doctors attending on
the farmer leader told
reporters that the sugar
level of Dallewal, who
is on fast since Satur-
day, is low and a medi-
cal team has been sta-
tioned at the protest site
in Faridkot to monitor
his health.
The ongoing protests
by farmers entered the
sixth day on Monday.
BKU (Ekta Sidhupur) is
spearheading the pro-
tests in Amritsar, Man-
sa, Patiala, Faridkot
and Bathinda in Punjab
in support of its de-
mands. Dallewal has ac-
cused the Aam Aadmi
Party of acting the
same way as the BJP
did during the farmers’
stir against the now re-
pealed farm laws.
“We are sitting here
for resolution of our de-
mands. If the govern-
ment does not accept
then this fast unto death
and our protests will
continue like this,”
Dallewal told reporters
in Faridkot.
He said farmers were
compelled to stage sit-
ins on roads after their
protests outside the of-
fices of deputy commis-
sioners failed to yield
any positive action
from the state govern-
ment. Dallewal said he
is not going to avail
medical aid and his fast
in support of demands
will continue.
“We are ready to give
treatment, but he is re-
fusing,” said a doctor
who examined him.
Chief Minister Bhag-
want Mann had
slammed the farmers’
unions on Friday last
for frequently staging
protests by blocking
roads in Punjab to get
their demands fulfilled,
which evoked strong re-
action from farmers’
bodies, with the Bharti
Kisan Union (Ekta Sid-
hupur) hitting out at the
CM, accusing him of
not fulfilling promises..
Dallewal had earlier
accused CM Mann of
deceiving farmers by
not fulfilling demands
which were earlier ac-
cepted by him.
“We were promised
that sugarcane mills
would start crushing
from November 5 but it
failed to do so. We were
promised that Rs 2,500
per acre will be given
for not burning stub-
ble. We were again
promised no action will
be taken against farm-
ers who burn stubble,
but it failed on this
front also,” Dallewal
had last week said.

are big issues?
Gehlot: The aim of Ra-

The inflation has broken
the back of the public.

failed and the entire cab-

During Corona, the situ-
ation has not been good
and people did not get
treatment, and people
died of spurious liquor.
z You have started in-
itiative of door-to-
door campaign. How
much will Congress
benefit from it?
The five yatras of Con-
gress at the divisional
level received warm wel-
come because there is
unrest among the public
against the present re-
gime. In 2017 also, there
was anger among the
public but this time,
there is more anger. Only
Congress can give an op-
tion, no other party can.
So, I think the Congress
will benefit from this
strategy
.
z Last time also, you
took the command
and Congress got 77
seats. Do you think
the Congress will
cross that figure or re-
main around that fig-

The PCC has done an as-

of 125 seats and we are
moving towards that
daily

reach, only time will tell.

z AAP is also contest-
ing with full force. Do
you think AAP’s pres-
ence will lead to tri-
angular contest?
During the last one
month, they cam-
paigned a lot. It is a
mystery and Arvind Ke-
jriwal should answer as
to why they campaigned
a lot in Himachal
Pradesh and later to-
tally withdrew from the
contest. This is beyond
comprehension.
z Your ‘Old Pension

role model. Congress
is including it in its

The petition, which is likely to be listed for hearing on Wednesday, alleged that so far the Delhi Police has re- vealed each and every detail to the media and public regarding the investigation which is not permitted under the law. It claimed that the al- leged place of incident has not been sealed by the Delhi Police till date which is continuously being accessed by the public and media per- sonnel. Walkar was mur- dered by 28-year-old Aaftab Poonawala, who sawed her body into 35 pieces and dumped the body parts across the city over several days past midnight. “The incident of murder is alleged to have been taken place in Delhi and thereafter the body parts have been alleged to have dis- posed at different plac- es, thus investigation of Police Station Mehrauli cannot be efficiently be carried out due to ad- ministrative/ staff pau- city as well as lack of sufficient technical and scientific equipment to find out the evidences and the witnesses as the incident had taken place about six months back in May, 2022,” the petition filed by Joshini Tuli submitted. The plea, filed through advocate Joginder Tuli, claimed that sensitive details of the investigation by the Delhi Police have so far been revealed to public persons through the media which has lead to tampering of sensitive evidence. “The presence of media and other pub- lic persons at the place of recoveries, court hearings etc. Of any accused amounts to in- terference with the evidence and witness- es in the present case,” it alleged. POLICE MOVE APPLICATION FOR AAFTAB’S POLYGRAPH TEST New Delhi (PTI): The Delhi police on Monday moved an ap- plication in court here for conducting a polygraph test on Aaftab Amin Poon- awala, who is ac- cused of brutally kill- ing his live-in partner six months ago. The court had on Thursday directed the city police to com- plete the narco analy- sis test within five days while making it clear that it cannot use any third-degree measure on him. The application was moved on Monday on the ground that Poon- awala is providing incorrect informa- tion and misleading police, a court source said. Narco-analysis is a controlled intrave- nous administration of hypnotic medica- tion on a suspect to get information that would usually not be revealed in the nor- mal state. SPIRITUAL SPEAK So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! —Bible IN-DEPTH AMERICA IN NO POSITION TO LECTURE OTHERS ON LAW, ORDER he United States of America may be the world’s richest and most developed coun- try but its gun cul- ture and narrow mindset to- wards different social groups like women, Blacks and the LG- BTQ. For women the US may not be as safe as it is perceived to be. According to World Population Review’s latest rape statistics, number of rapes or sexual as- sault varies from one state to another but the average worked out to one rape every 1-2 min- utes. Women aged 16-19 years are more likely to be victims of rape. Last Saturday night at least five people were killed in a shooting incident at an LGBTQ club in Colorado taking the number of deaths in mass shoot- ings to over 601 this year. Blacks have also been victims of such shootings. With over a month still remaining in 2022, it may catch up with last year’s toll of 692. The US is in no position to lecture any county on rule of law, but it does. TOP TWEETS T awyers often go on strike but rare- ly do they do so to question the deci- sion of the Su- preme collegium over the transfer of a judge with the concurrence of the Union Law Ministry. Gujarat High Court lawyers have been on strike over the transfer of Justice Nikhil S Kariel to the Patna High Court calling the collegium’s decision as “the death of judiciary’s inde- pendence” and even observed two minutes’ silence in mourning. Lawyers claim that it is a “penal transfer” and described the judge as independent, balanced and clean. They see no reason for Justice Kariel’s transfer to Patna and conveyed their ob- jections to the Chief Justice of India Justice DY Chandra- chud when they met him on Monday . Neither the Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju nor Justice Chandrachud had sounded encouraging of the move. Law Minister Rijiju deprecated the action by law- yers and said at a function organised by the Bar Council of India that “if it becomes a recurring instance for every decision by the collegium, which is supported by the government, then where will it lead to”? Justice Chandra- chud also did not appreciate lawyers questioning the col- legium’s decision and said that decisions are taken keeping in view “the national perspective”. Justice Chandrachud told the lawyers that the issue would be duly examined. Is that setting a precedent? Right or wrong, lawyers must defer to the collegium’s deci- sions on transfer and eleva- tion of judges. They should not avoid acting like a trade union to seek reversal of the collegium’s decisions. UNPRECEDENTED SUPPORT FOR JUDGE Gujarat HC lawyers have been on strike over the transfer of Justice Nikhil S Kariel to Patna HC calling the collegium’s decision as “the death of judiciary’s independence” and even observed two minutes’ silence in mourning L India will host the G-20 Leaders’ Summit at the level of Heads of State/ Government on 9th and 10th September 2023, in New Delhi. Under its Presidency, India is expected to host over 200 meetings across India, commencing from December 2022. As indicated by Indian PM, it’s going to be Impeccable and Uniquely ‘Indian’ G-20, and this mega event will be conducted closer to the lives of the people of India making it ‘People’s G-20’ he G-20 or Group of Twenty was created in 1999 as an ac- ceptable medium between the more “elitist” G-7 and the more unwieldy 38-member Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Develop- ment (OECD). The formation of the G-20 is more so linked to the disappointment of the international community over the failure of the G-7 in finding solutions to the prob- lems of the global economy. The middle-income coun- tries and those with systemic economic influence in the negotiations to find solutions to global economic problems became imminent. Over the past two decades, the global economic balance has shift- ed, and the G-20 has been seen as a more representa- tive and egalitarian grouping of global leadership, and was particularly useful in steer- ing the global economy after the financing crisis and banking collapse of 2008. Sig- nificantly, the “Troika” of G-20 will be made up of emerging economies for the first time with India, Indone- sia and Brazil - an indicator of the shift in the global eco- nomic agenda towards the Global South. While G-7 is generally engaging more in political and security- relat- ed issues, the G-20 primarily focuses on global economic and finance governance. G-20 is the premier forum for international economic cooperation representing around 85% of the global GDP, over 75% of the world- wide trade, and about two- thirds of the world popula- tion. The G-20 is an intergov- ernmental forum comprising 19 countries and the Europe- an Union. It works to address major issues related to the global economy , such as inter- national financial stability, climate change mitigation, and sustainable development. The members of the G-20 are: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Ger- many, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Ara- bia, South Africa, Turkey , the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Un- ion. The G-20 is divided into two channels, namely the fi- nancial track and the Sherpa track. The financial channel, specifically addresses a num- ber of agendas related to the financial sector. Bali Summit 15-16 Nov 2022: The motto of recently concluded Bali Summit in Indonesia was ‘Recover To- gether, Recover Stronger’. Recovery from the pandemic was major focus despite geo- political tensions overshad- owing the summit. The Bali Summit focuses on a durable recovery multilateral action on climate, debt, taxation, and pandemic preparedness. The Bali Declaration ac- knowledged differences over Russia-Ukraine war, but most members strongly con- demned it and opined that it is essential to uphold inter- national law and multilateral system that safeguards peace and stability . Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mantra “to- day’s era must not be of war” resonated in the joint decla- ration or communiqué is- sued after the G-20 Summit. INDIA’S PRESIDENCY: DEC 2022 - NOV 2023 India has been a member of the G-20 since its inception in 1999. As an important mem- ber of the grouping, India ensured that its perspective on issues of vital national importance did not go un- heard in the global financial narrative. India will be as- suming chairmanship of the G-20 for one year from 01 De- cember 22. This is a matter of pride for every Indian and an opportunity for the country to emerge as a leader to solve some of the most pressing is- sues facing humanity today. However, India’s Presidency comes at a watershed mo- ment coinciding with a peri- od of global flux. The global community is facing multi- ple political and economic challenges. India’s three guiding prin- ciples going into the G-20 Presidency are: - First, serv- ing as a bridge between the developed and developing world, second, serving as the representative of the eastern bloc of nations and third, in- sulating the G-20 from some of the divisive pressures that have paralysed multilateral- ism elsewhere. INDIA’S MAJOR OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES Evolve a clear G-20 policy on Russia- Ukraine war ending the conflict, preventing fur- ther isolation of Russia in the forum. Focus on inclusive, equita- ble and sustainable growth; LiFE (Lifestyle for Environ- ment); women’s empower- ment; digital public infra- structure and tech-enabled development. The Indian PM Modi’s vision of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam - “One Earth, One Family, One Future” with focus being “ principle of ‘data for devp’ of all. The after-effects of the pandemic and economic re- covery have been worsened in the wake of Russia – Ukraine war and needs global co-operation to re- store normalcy. While the overall focus will have to be on sustainable economic growth but need to chalk out a roadmap to deal with the economic situation in col- laboration with the IMF, OECD, WTO, and the Finan- cial Stability Board. Climate financing is an- other area that India has to work on with the affluent na- tions. The developed coun- tries have to be prodded for transfer of clean technolo- gies and renewable energies to medium and low-income countries. Surendranagar (PTI): Prime Minister Naren- dra Modi on Monday took a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, say- ing those who have been thrown out of power are taking out foot march to get back to power. Ad- dressing a gathering in Surendranagar town of poll-bound Gujarat, Modi also said instead of talking about devel- opment during elec- tions, the opposition Congress is saying it will show him his “au- kat” (status). “Now, the Congress does not talk about de- velopment during elec- tions. Instead, Congress leaders are saying they will show Modi his au- kat. Just look at their arrogance. They, in- deed, belong to a royal family, while I am mere- ly a servant having no aukat,” he said. “In the past, the Congress had used words like ‘neech aadmi’, ‘maut ka sauda- gar’ and ‘naali ka kee- da’ for me. I urge you to talk about development instead of playing this game of ‘aukat’,” he said, adding that he swallows such insults because his focus is to make India a developed nation. Elections to the Guja- rat Assembly will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5. Modi said people who were dethroned long back were taking out yatra to get back the power. “Some people are doing foot march to get back to power. They are also taking along those who had stalled the Narma- da project for 40 years through litigation and kept Gujarat thirsty for 40 years. Sources told ANI that it was a “light and fun” conversation as the Prime Minister walked into the Kamalam office and instead of going into a room, he chose to sit in the open area and on the benches. The accused was traced with the help of CCTV footage from a camera installed in a shop right in front of the mosque, he said. Studies have shown that about 1 in 5 adults go on to develop long-term ef- fects from COVID-19. Neurological symp- toms associated with long COVID include dif- ficulty thinking or con- centrating, headache, sleep problems, light- headedness, pins-and- needles sensation, change in smell or taste, depression or anxiety . However, studies have found COVID-19 may be associated with changes to the heart, lungs or other organs even in asymptomatic patients. The latest study, being presented next week at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America, used susceptibility-weighted imaging to analyse the effects that COVID-19 has on the brain. Magnetic susceptibil- ity denotes how much certain materials, such as blood, iron and calci- um,willbecomemagnet- ised in an applied mag- netic field. This ability aids in the detection and monitoring of a host of neurologic conditions including microbleeds, vascularmalformations, brain tumours stroke. Durrani, who was in Srinagar to promote his spy thriller series “Mukhbir The Story of a Spy”, also said Kash- miri filmmakers have to bring about a change if they want the coun- try to see the stories from the Valley with a new perspective. “Kashmir is now opening up to films. Many people are into production now. A lot of production houses have come up, people are working in them. It not only provides job oppor- tunities, but also devel- ops work culture. Peo- ple from outside come and work here, we get to learn from them. It leads to change in the work culture,” he said. The actor, a Kashmiri himself, said while it would take time for the cinema to evolve in the region, “if we want to narrate or showcase our own stories, we have to openproductionhouses, nurture local talent like they do in the south”. “If we want the whole country to see the sto- ries from Kashmir, and that too with a new per- spective, we have to bring a change our- selves. We have to show different stories from here, the stories about those topics which have not been explored so far. “Right now, people outside have a micro view and see only those things for which Kash- mirremainsinthenews. Do you think, after Ra- jasthan, people in Gu- jarat are able to un- derstand that these are big issues? Gehlot: The aim of Ra- hul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ is also simi- lar(toraisetheseissues). The inflation has broken the back of the public. Although,Gujaratiscon- sidered financially well off, but there is a limit to price rise. There is se- vereunemploymenthere and there is unrest among young people. The system of jobs for goodgovernanceismiss- ing here. This govt has failed and the entire cab- inet had to be re-jigged. During Corona, the situ- ation has not been good and people did not get treatment, and people died of spurious liquor. z You have started in- itiative of door-to- door campaign. How much will Congress benefit from it? The five yatras of Con- gress at the divisional level received warm wel- come because there is unrest among the public against the present re- gime. In 2017 also, there was anger among the public but this time, there is more anger. Only Congress can give an op- tion, no other party can. So, I think the Congress will benefit from this strategy . z Last time also, you took the command and Congress got 77 seats. Do you think the Congress will cross that figure or re- main around that fig- ure only? The PCC has done an as- sessment and set a target of 125 seats and we are moving towards that daily . Where we will reach, only time will tell. z PM has accused that people opposing Narmada Project have joined ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’? PM Modi and Amit Shah are worried as such they are using such ‘Jumlas.’ Activistsdotheirjoband keep their view point in every state. It is not nec- essary that the govern- ment agrees to them all. Medha Patkar kept op- posing it, but the dam wasconstructed.‘Bharat JodoYatra’isnotof Con- gress only . This Yatra is in the interest of the na- tion.Thisisnotgoodand the public is gradually understanding these is- sues. z AAP is also contest- ing with full force. Do you think AAP’s pres- ence will lead to tri- angular contest? During the last one month, they cam- paigned a lot. It is a mystery and Arvind Ke- jriwal should answer as to why they campaigned a lot in Himachal Pradesh and later to- tally withdrew from the contest. This is beyond comprehension. z Your ‘Old Pension Scheme’ has become a role model. Congress is including it in its manifesto in other states also. How will you assure Gujarat people that schemes implemented in Ra- jasthan will be repli- cated there also? Wehavepromisedpeople andtheCongressgovern- ment will fulfil it. The healthinsurancescheme of Rajasthan should be implemented across the country . I publicly ap- pealed to PM Modi at Mangarh event to repli- catethehealthinsurance scheme across the coun- try for social security . The ‘Ayushman Scheme’ is for limited people only . We have provided Rs 10 lakhinsuranceandinad- dition Rs 5 lakh acciden- tal insurance. z How assured are you about Congress’ victory in Gujarat? I think there will be startling results. I can say this much only . Only Congress can provide an option in Gujarat: Gehlot l There will be startling results in Gujarat, says Gehlot lGujarat PCC has done assessment and set a target of 125 seats Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot interacts with the Consulting Editor of Bharat24 Amit Mishra in Surat on Monday.
