Education Essay
Tabitha Johnson Professor Penner English 1551 February 21, 2011 Education Essay Everyone would agree that education is a fundamental way of life.
A means to learn something new. It's intention is to mentally, physically, and emotionally benefit the person by putting them in a better place then they
were previously in before. From the beginning of times people have relied and survived on past educators. There are many people that contribute to a
individuals education. Starting off as a young child most of the information retrieved comes from home through parents, and loved ones. As they move
into adolescents learning is obtained from multiple people including teachers, friends, and even through their surroundings. An ideal...show more

Also, by putting the teachings into action and letting the children practice fun ways to create healthy dishes with their classmates and absorb an
important lesson. So many people eat the wrong foods and suffer tremendously because, they are not educated on the proper foods to consume.
Students need to be aware what can happen if they make poor eating choices, and how junk food effects not only their health and weight, but also
their mental capability's as well. Good eating habits need to be exercised in the lunchroom, as well as the classroom to be fully educated in nutrient.
Physical fitness is equally important when speaking upon education. With computers and video games on the rise, it is more likely in today's society
for a child to be sitting in front of one of these devices, then it is for them to be playing outside. While these machines can be great educational tools
and stimulate the mind, they do nothing when it comes to physical fitness. Physical education needs to be incorporated in the learning process.
Students need to experience the joy associated with exercise. Physical education classes today are either limited or almost non–existent. Students
should have a set time everyday for physical education. This will help fight obesity and promote healthy–living. Students need to be exposed to
physical hard work and know that it pays off. The rewards associated with physical education are huge. It

what is education Essay
What is education?
What are the challenges facing those who provide it?
Education is a crucial part of life, it influences the way people think, speak, talk, write and react to the world around them. However, education is much
more than just an influence, it is a part of life itself. Throughout the past century, education has dramatically called upon change and variation, with new
technology, science, and both ethical and cultural values making way. Hence, education can really only be defined by its time and place. This means
that as educators, we need to continually update our qualifications and skills to be in equilibrium with the constant changes that are happening around
us, which is a challenge all educators face (Dusseldorp 1998)....show more content...
Moreover, with new fields of work constantly being created, there is a large demand for people with the right qualifications and skills (Kalantzis 1998).
Finding the right people with such skills can be a hard task, unless educational institutions such as schools, tafes and universities are continually
updating the subjects they teach and their teaching methods (Dusseldorp 1998).
Along with changing careers is technology, the most rapidly developing resource on the planet. According to Australian Bureau of Statistics, 66% of
Australian households have access to at least one computer at home and over 72% of households have access to mobile phones. Quality Education
Data have also surveyed that just over 90% of school teachers feel "unprepared" to effectively use technology. This statistic really concretes a point;
educators are not keeping up with technology, and in consequence are slowing down the ability for children to gain experience with technology.
Today we live in a world that solely relies on technology, and not being able to effectively use this technology can be a real problem. As technology
changes more and more, educators will only find it harder to keep their skills up–to–date unless they are consistent in keeping up with the move.
Education also strives to imitate and 'mirror' the ways society works, through both structure and organisation (McBurney–Fry 2002). It slowly prepares
children to face the reality of adult life where there will be winners and

My Education Essay
My Education
When speaking of the topic of who a person is and their past, a massive part of this includes their educational background. Isn't this what forms people,
their education? Of course, this doesn't always have to refer to their organized education. Everything that a person learns is something that educates
them; these words being synonymous. Even something like first learning to tie your shoes is a part of your education. Which method works better for
you: loop, swoop, and pull, or bunny ears? I of course, like any other well educated person, use loop, swoop, and pull; it's just the best way, no bias has
ever developed there.
I started out as a twinkle in my father's eye in the fall of 1982, and then on that fateful...show more content...
Starting in Nana's Nuggets preschool, which had a lot of interactive learning, I began my first venture into organized education. This was a very warm
environment, same as in my home, where caring and working with others was very important. I made a lot of friends in this school that I actually
stayed with through all of high school. When this short stint was finished, I graduated onto Seward Elementary School, located in the same buildings
as the Middle and High Schools, where I first learned that kissing a girl on the hand in kindergarten at story time wasn't a good idea. In the Seward
Community Schools system, ones learns a lot about the natural world around them, and about Alaska in general, being as it is one of the worlds
greatest natural resources. After first grade, there was a new building necessary, as the population of Seward, like any other place on earth, was
growing. This new school was where I had a second grade teacher who had actually been in the Ms. America pageant, whom everyone had a crush
on. I started music which I loved every minute of, as it would become a large part of me. As any other elementary school, this was where I learned my
basic stuff of course: typing, addition, speling, and even crazy things like percentages!
Going into middle school, I always had a taste for math and science, learning quickly all I could. Other things

My Quality Education Essay
My Quality Education
For years I've heard that in order to succeed one has to receive a quality education. It's kind of funny though, with all the talk about the need for this
great quality education nobody ever says exactly what it is. While examining this strange phenomenon I've discovered the basic universal elements of a
"quality education". I've also learned that everyone has different standards by which they judge what is and what isn't a quality education,
different groups are treated differently, the importance ofhome education and the effects that my own pursuits of education have had on me.
Depending upon who you ask you will almost always receive a...show more content...
Much of the time, if not all, the primary focus is on
European and Western civilization. Asian, African, Indian, and South American civilization ten to be ignored in comparison to European cultures
which we are required to learn from the time we enter school and many times beyond the time we leave school. Since these cultures are often ignored
much of the cultural knowledge for "minorities" is provided by family and passed on from generation to generation through oral stories
like "corn mother" and through artifacts.
The standards of a quality education are defined by many different institutions, each of them having their own definition of what an education should
be. Take the employer for example. The employer sees a good education as having the proper training to perform the job correctly in the workplace,
we place a significant amount of importance in the knowledge of ourselves. This is valued so much that often one who is ignorant of their history can
be labeled a " sell–out" or something similar. People from other culture have their own standards of education. For instance, if one were
to meet a person from culture and were insensitive to their customs, disrespectful, and showed no appreciation whatsoever for their culture, they could
very easily be viewed as ignorant. In essence everyone makes the rules of what a good education is. Many of these rules differ which is why it is so
vital that

Essay on Public Education
Public Education
Education is an issue that touches everyone's lives in one way or another. Whether you are a parent, student, teacher, taxpayer, or employee, the effects
of education on society can be seen everyday. For this reason, public schools are a top concern among political leaders. Over the past twenty–five
years, confidence in the nation's public school system has dramatically declined. While the public for the most part seems to support their school district
, criticism is not lacking. Recent years especially have shown dissipating support. It appears that the prevailing view is that public education, as a whole,
is in bad condition and is in need of a renewed effort to fix it. Private schools seem to fare...show more content...
Although these actions demonstrate that the federal government does play some role in the educational system, most school issues have always been
settled at the state or local level.
Local control of school districts has proven to have mixed results. Local control allows districts to experiment and keeps problems from one district
affecting another. At the same time however, local control keeps good ideas from spreading quickly. Local districts have produced a diverse range of
possible solutions to the problems that public schools face. Unfortunately, the huge amount of diversity that is present from district to district has also
made progress harder to measure.
Like other important issues, those concerned with the nation's educational system come from many differing perspectives. Each one of these
perspectives has a different set of solutions for education in America. Liberals believe that the most effective way to improve schools is to provide
more adequate funding. They strongly disagree with many of the Conservative solutions. Conservatives advocate for the raising of educational
standards, the creation of student centered schools, and offering educational choices to parents. The Moderate perspective for education consists of a
blend of ideas from both the conservative and liberal viewpoint.
Conservative Perspective
Conservatives have a number of solutions regarding America's educational dilemma.

Thesis: Elementary teachers may not have highest income, but they have one of the most fulfilling careers.
Introduction: When thinking back to elementary school, what most people remember the best, are the teachers they had along the way. Elementary

Elementary teachers not only introduce their students to the basic concepts of core subjects, they also help pave the path to each student's future success.
Education to become a teacher is long and tedious, and while the income may not be the highest available, watching students develop a new skill or
grow an appreciation for learning can be very rewarding. Because there will always be a need for education, even with the recent budget cuts, teaching
jobs will always have to be available somewhere.
Elementary teachers play an important part in the intellectual development as well as the social development of their students. The education of young
children can affect the way they view themselves, other people, and the world, and their success throughout life. Usually, one elementary teacher will
teach several subjects to one class, of about 20 students. However, some will work in teams with other teachers, depending on the type of school
("Career Information: Elementary School Teachers."). Teachers are faced with the responsibility of nurturing their students as well as their education.
In the early years of elementary school, teachers introduce their students to the concepts of reading, writing, and counting. In the later years of
elementary, teachers have the task of introducing the concepts of mathematics, language, science, and social studies. Teachers also have multiple
behind–the–scenes duties. Teachers have the duty of creating daily

Education
Education has always been a major priority for me. I was brought up in a family that was centered on education. Both of my grandma's were
teachers. I have sixteen aunts and uncles and all but 3 of them have college degrees. Ten of those a master's degree, and 4 of them went on to earn
their PhD. My parents are both college graduates. Ever since I've been old enough to really understand things, they have stressed how important it is to
be educated. So growing up I found education to be a vitally important part of my life. Education helps build you up. It allows you to do things that
you are not able to do without an education. It is like the old saying, "education is the building block that makes America grow." The...show more

There have been far more good ones than bad ones. These teachers have a major impact on the students that they teach day in and day out. Each
teacher and professor has his or her own teaching style. What works for one does not necessarily work for the other. On the other hand, each teaching
style does not always work well with some individual students. It is the teacher who can adapt to these circumstances students who can really have a
profound effect on their students. I had one the best professors I have ever met. His name was Dr. Hammond. He was a professor in the Political Science
department. Dr. Hammond used many nontraditional teaching methods, but that was what made him so great.
There are many different teaching methods out there. Dr. Hammond's teaching method is something of a new method. Professor Hammond's classroom
was very simple. There was no video equipment, there was no projector, and there was no computer. He simply had one smallblackboard that he used
sparingly. He believed that students learn best when there is an open discussion every class period on the subject material that was being studied any
given day. His classroom was extremely informal. Students were allowed to sit wherever they wanted, eat, and drink whatever they wanted also. Dr.
Hammond believed that students learned best when they felt the most comfortable.
Professor Hammond was not a big fan of outside reading either. We had only one book for

Ethics and Education Essay
Ethics and Education
Ethics and Morals are two important words everyone knows, but which very few truly understand. Ethics is defined, in Webster's Ninth New
Collegiate Dictionary, as the discipline dealing with what is good and what is bad. Morals are defined, in the same dictionary, as those principles of
right and wrong in behavior. For Kozol in The Night Is Dark and I Am Far From Home, ethics and morals have similar definitions but extend to
include a sense of compassion for others. I agree with his argument that the purpose of schooling is to educate an ethical human being: a person who
not only lives his life by facts and knowledge but also by ethics and morals.
The need for schools to address ethics and morals is important...show more content...
Since in school are where children interact most often with any adult, it should be standard for schools to have ethics and morals in their curricula.
However, the decision of what ethics and whose morals to include in curricula poses a problem for many schools. With so many different ways of
thought and senses of morality, the ability to decide on one standardized set of ethics and morality proves to be almost impossible. The decision is
also difficult since morality at times is synonymous with religion and deciding on a particular set of morality can be interpreted as favoring a certain
religion within a school. Other problems with this system are a teacher's possible conflict with certain ethical and moral issues they may have to
convey to their students. What if a teacher does not believe in a certain ethical guideline in the curriculum or what if they do not believe an ethical
decision is required for a certain discipline? A system of ethics which encompasses many beliefs, yet does not isolate one exactly, is the only useful
method in a school.
The system of ethics that Kozol proposes does not seem to corner any particular religion and is merely a law–abiding way of life with a concern for
the welfare of others. This idea of compassion in education will cause students to be ethical and moral not only outside of the classroom

Definition of Education Essay
Definition of Education
Education what is it? It is defined as: 1. The act or process of educating or being educated. 2. The knowledge or skill obtained or developed by a
learning process. 3. A program of instruction of a specified kind or level. 4.
The field of study that is concerned with the pedagogy of teaching and learning, according to the American Heritage dictionary. Its etymology comes
from the
Latin word "educatio which means to bring up"1 But what does that tell us. It says to me that education is training not learning.
Education trains the youth into what society deems as a productive member. We are not educated to seek out what our interests are . We are educated
so we can produce things. The age of...show more content...
It is stated nowhere. Education should be about becoming enlightened to the works of the world. I am not saying becoming a lawyer or a business
person is wrong or inimical. What I am saying is being a artist or philosopher is just as advantageous. In fact art and philosophy should be made
standard issue in schools. We all need to know how to think for ourselves. This is not an easy thing to accomplish, we would need more money for
schools in order to pay for teachers and materials. This would not completely solve the problem however.
We must change the way we think and take control of ourselves. It is essential that we not be lead blindly. It is time that we hold people accountable
for their actions. No longer are we be to lead by people just because they belong to a political party that we belong to. Instead we must be independent
in our thoughts. Most importantly education should be a tool not a crutch.
Education is defined in many ways, however, they all mean the same thing.
To be formed into the mold of a productive worker. What does this do for the world? Nothing, it creates another mindless drone to carry out the
work of its master. The people in power do not want this to change because it serves their purposes. We must change or over time we will lose our
ability to think for ourselves. Then we are truly "dammed" to subservience. What type of life could that ever be? A life in which we could not

Essay about Higher Education
Higher education is optional, but to enter a respectable career, one must continue their education in order to achieve his financial and/or personal goals.
Teenagers who attend college use their extended schooling to further obtain knowledge. The primary objective of higher education is to enhance one's
abilities for his future. A student can learn from school in numerous ways, but liberal education is not a way to attract students into further and higher
education. However, students can learn a lot more through experiences that have affected their personal lives. I agree with author Mike Rose's theory
that education needs are reached to obtain a higher academic level by teaching students information that can be related to their personal...show more

However, he has not thought about the students who want to attend college and quickly earn their degree so they can start their careers.
I disagree with Bloom because he encourages the idea of taking extra irrelevant classes to achieve the experience of education. It usually takes about
four years to earn a bachelors degree. There are many courses such as English, math, history, art, etc. that a student must go through before they get to
start on the classes that concentrate on their intended major. These basic courses are part of a program called general education. After completing
general education (which usually takes about two years), the students can then begin to study for their degree. Colleges should abandon the law of
students having to take general education courses because the courses are irrelevant to their field of study, unnecessary and a waste of time. Instead of
taking the extra courses, students can simply meet their needs of a degree in a shorter period of time. Also, Bloom not only that wants students to take
general education courses, he wants them to further their education by taking advanced irrelevant courses. Therefore, in their future, they would have
numerous opportunities for a better career. Because if a job is not right for the student, he would have other choices to obtain a new job.
Rose feels students should not learn from the canon books style. Students have an easier time learning when they relate to the

Essay on What Is the Purpose of Education?
Getting educated is very important for every person. It goes without saying that each of us has to have a proper education. We learn how to read,
count and write. These are the basic abilities we acquire and use during our life. Is there any other purpose of education or it is aimed only at giving
us a possibility to communicate our ideas and satisfy basic needs? During centuries, there were different interpretations of the purpose of education.
Many scientists, pedagogues and philosophers tried to answer the question: what is the purpose of education? Taking into consideration the needs and
tendencies of a modern society, we can assume that the purpose of education is to prepare students to be self–sufficient citizens capable of solving
...show more content...
Our education should be aimed at educating people who love the world they lie in and who are ready to become peacemakers and healers of the
world (Orr 55). A sustainable society "consists" of citizens, workers, specialists, technicians, etc, who are ready to work in order to build and
support such society. One of the ways to provide such education is to "get outdoor". The skills and abilities develop in real world and not in
artificial situations in class. In this regard, we may refer to the Plato's "Allegory of the Cave". One should "touch" the real world problems and get
personal experience from it. Shadows in the cave are the retrospectives of the real knowledge. To acquire the knowledge, we should leave the "cave".
We can learn theory separated from practice and this will not have any result. Instead, we should understand that every individual is a part of the
natural world, thus, education should be based on ecological literacy as "health of our planet" is one of the most urgent questions of the modern social
community.
For many centuries, the principles of the classical education were in the spotlight. The good of the individual, realizing his/her own potential were the
purposes of the learning process. Cultural development is the aim of the classical education. It stands above everything, including religion. (Nietzsche,
n. p.). Referring to Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" to interpret the classical education in modern society, we can say that

Education Essay

  • 1. Education Essay Tabitha Johnson Professor Penner English 1551 February 21, 2011 Education Essay Everyone would agree that education is a fundamental way of life. A means to learn something new. It's intention is to mentally, physically, and emotionally benefit the person by putting them in a better place then they were previously in before. From the beginning of times people have relied and survived on past educators. There are many people that contribute to a individuals education. Starting off as a young child most of the information retrieved comes from home through parents, and loved ones. As they move into adolescents learning is obtained from multiple people including teachers, friends, and even through their surroundings. An ideal...show more content... Also, by putting the teachings into action and letting the children practice fun ways to create healthy dishes with their classmates and absorb an important lesson. So many people eat the wrong foods and suffer tremendously because, they are not educated on the proper foods to consume. Students need to be aware what can happen if they make poor eating choices, and how junk food effects not only their health and weight, but also their mental capability's as well. Good eating habits need to be exercised in the lunchroom, as well as the classroom to be fully educated in nutrient. Physical fitness is equally important when speaking upon education. With computers and video games on the rise, it is more likely in today's society for a child to be sitting in front of one of these devices, then it is for them to be playing outside. While these machines can be great educational tools and stimulate the mind, they do nothing when it comes to physical fitness. Physical education needs to be incorporated in the learning process. Students need to experience the joy associated with exercise. Physical education classes today are either limited or almost non–existent. Students should have a set time everyday for physical education. This will help fight obesity and promote healthy–living. Students need to be exposed to physical hard work and know that it pays off. The rewards associated with physical education are huge. It Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. what is education Essay What is education? What are the challenges facing those who provide it? Education is a crucial part of life, it influences the way people think, speak, talk, write and react to the world around them. However, education is much more than just an influence, it is a part of life itself. Throughout the past century, education has dramatically called upon change and variation, with new technology, science, and both ethical and cultural values making way. Hence, education can really only be defined by its time and place. This means that as educators, we need to continually update our qualifications and skills to be in equilibrium with the constant changes that are happening around us, which is a challenge all educators face (Dusseldorp 1998)....show more content... Moreover, with new fields of work constantly being created, there is a large demand for people with the right qualifications and skills (Kalantzis 1998). Finding the right people with such skills can be a hard task, unless educational institutions such as schools, tafes and universities are continually updating the subjects they teach and their teaching methods (Dusseldorp 1998). Along with changing careers is technology, the most rapidly developing resource on the planet. According to Australian Bureau of Statistics, 66% of Australian households have access to at least one computer at home and over 72% of households have access to mobile phones. Quality Education Data have also surveyed that just over 90% of school teachers feel "unprepared" to effectively use technology. This statistic really concretes a point; educators are not keeping up with technology, and in consequence are slowing down the ability for children to gain experience with technology. Today we live in a world that solely relies on technology, and not being able to effectively use this technology can be a real problem. As technology changes more and more, educators will only find it harder to keep their skills up–to–date unless they are consistent in keeping up with the move. Education also strives to imitate and 'mirror' the ways society works, through both structure and organisation (McBurney–Fry 2002). It slowly prepares children to face the reality of adult life where there will be winners and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. My Education Essay My Education When speaking of the topic of who a person is and their past, a massive part of this includes their educational background. Isn't this what forms people, their education? Of course, this doesn't always have to refer to their organized education. Everything that a person learns is something that educates them; these words being synonymous. Even something like first learning to tie your shoes is a part of your education. Which method works better for you: loop, swoop, and pull, or bunny ears? I of course, like any other well educated person, use loop, swoop, and pull; it's just the best way, no bias has ever developed there. I started out as a twinkle in my father's eye in the fall of 1982, and then on that fateful...show more content... Starting in Nana's Nuggets preschool, which had a lot of interactive learning, I began my first venture into organized education. This was a very warm environment, same as in my home, where caring and working with others was very important. I made a lot of friends in this school that I actually stayed with through all of high school. When this short stint was finished, I graduated onto Seward Elementary School, located in the same buildings as the Middle and High Schools, where I first learned that kissing a girl on the hand in kindergarten at story time wasn't a good idea. In the Seward Community Schools system, ones learns a lot about the natural world around them, and about Alaska in general, being as it is one of the worlds greatest natural resources. After first grade, there was a new building necessary, as the population of Seward, like any other place on earth, was growing. This new school was where I had a second grade teacher who had actually been in the Ms. America pageant, whom everyone had a crush on. I started music which I loved every minute of, as it would become a large part of me. As any other elementary school, this was where I learned my basic stuff of course: typing, addition, speling, and even crazy things like percentages! Going into middle school, I always had a taste for math and science, learning quickly all I could. Other things Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My Quality Education Essay My Quality Education For years I've heard that in order to succeed one has to receive a quality education. It's kind of funny though, with all the talk about the need for this great quality education nobody ever says exactly what it is. While examining this strange phenomenon I've discovered the basic universal elements of a "quality education". I've also learned that everyone has different standards by which they judge what is and what isn't a quality education, different groups are treated differently, the importance ofhome education and the effects that my own pursuits of education have had on me. Depending upon who you ask you will almost always receive a...show more content... Much of the time, if not all, the primary focus is on European and Western civilization. Asian, African, Indian, and South American civilization ten to be ignored in comparison to European cultures which we are required to learn from the time we enter school and many times beyond the time we leave school. Since these cultures are often ignored much of the cultural knowledge for "minorities" is provided by family and passed on from generation to generation through oral stories like "corn mother" and through artifacts. The standards of a quality education are defined by many different institutions, each of them having their own definition of what an education should be. Take the employer for example. The employer sees a good education as having the proper training to perform the job correctly in the workplace, we place a significant amount of importance in the knowledge of ourselves. This is valued so much that often one who is ignorant of their history can be labeled a " sell–out" or something similar. People from other culture have their own standards of education. For instance, if one were to meet a person from culture and were insensitive to their customs, disrespectful, and showed no appreciation whatsoever for their culture, they could very easily be viewed as ignorant. In essence everyone makes the rules of what a good education is. Many of these rules differ which is why it is so vital that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Essay on Public Education Public Education Education is an issue that touches everyone's lives in one way or another. Whether you are a parent, student, teacher, taxpayer, or employee, the effects of education on society can be seen everyday. For this reason, public schools are a top concern among political leaders. Over the past twenty–five years, confidence in the nation's public school system has dramatically declined. While the public for the most part seems to support their school district , criticism is not lacking. Recent years especially have shown dissipating support. It appears that the prevailing view is that public education, as a whole, is in bad condition and is in need of a renewed effort to fix it. Private schools seem to fare...show more content... Although these actions demonstrate that the federal government does play some role in the educational system, most school issues have always been settled at the state or local level. Local control of school districts has proven to have mixed results. Local control allows districts to experiment and keeps problems from one district affecting another. At the same time however, local control keeps good ideas from spreading quickly. Local districts have produced a diverse range of possible solutions to the problems that public schools face. Unfortunately, the huge amount of diversity that is present from district to district has also made progress harder to measure. Like other important issues, those concerned with the nation's educational system come from many differing perspectives. Each one of these perspectives has a different set of solutions for education in America. Liberals believe that the most effective way to improve schools is to provide more adequate funding. They strongly disagree with many of the Conservative solutions. Conservatives advocate for the raising of educational standards, the creation of student centered schools, and offering educational choices to parents. The Moderate perspective for education consists of a blend of ideas from both the conservative and liberal viewpoint. Conservative Perspective Conservatives have a number of solutions regarding America's educational dilemma.

Elementary Education Essay Elementary Education: Shaping the Minds of the Future Kayla Lovell Composition II Ms. Reed 22 January 2012 Outline Thesis: Elementary teachers may not have highest income, but they have one of the most fulfilling careers. Introduction: When thinking back to elementary school, what most people remember the best, are the teachers they had along the way. Elementary teachers not only introduce their students to the basic concepts of core subjects, they also help pave the path to each student's future success. Education to become a teacher is long and tedious, and while the income may not be the highest available, watching students develop a new skill or grow an appreciation for learning can be very rewarding. Because there will always be a need for education, even with the recent budget cuts, teaching jobs will always have to be available somewhere. Elementary teachers play an important part in the intellectual development as well as the social development of their students. The education of young children can affect the way they view themselves, other people, and the world, and their success throughout life. Usually, one elementary teacher will teach several subjects to one class, of about 20 students. However, some will work in teams with other teachers, depending on the type of school ("Career Information: Elementary School Teachers."). Teachers are faced with the responsibility of nurturing their students as well as their education. In the early years of elementary school, teachers introduce their students to the concepts of reading, writing, and counting. In the later years of elementary, teachers have the task of introducing the concepts of mathematics, language, science, and social studies. Teachers also have multiple behind–the–scenes duties. Teachers have the duty of creating daily

  • 9. Education Essay examples Education Education has always been a major priority for me. I was brought up in a family that was centered on education. Both of my grandma's were teachers. I have sixteen aunts and uncles and all but 3 of them have college degrees. Ten of those a master's degree, and 4 of them went on to earn their PhD. My parents are both college graduates. Ever since I've been old enough to really understand things, they have stressed how important it is to be educated. So growing up I found education to be a vitally important part of my life. Education helps build you up. It allows you to do things that you are not able to do without an education. It is like the old saying, "education is the building block that makes America grow." The...show more content... There have been far more good ones than bad ones. These teachers have a major impact on the students that they teach day in and day out. Each teacher and professor has his or her own teaching style. What works for one does not necessarily work for the other. On the other hand, each teaching style does not always work well with some individual students. It is the teacher who can adapt to these circumstances students who can really have a profound effect on their students. I had one the best professors I have ever met. His name was Dr. Hammond. He was a professor in the Political Science department. Dr. Hammond used many nontraditional teaching methods, but that was what made him so great. There are many different teaching methods out there. Dr. Hammond's teaching method is something of a new method. Professor Hammond's classroom was very simple. There was no video equipment, there was no projector, and there was no computer. He simply had one smallblackboard that he used sparingly. He believed that students learn best when there is an open discussion every class period on the subject material that was being studied any given day. His classroom was extremely informal. Students were allowed to sit wherever they wanted, eat, and drink whatever they wanted also. Dr. Hammond believed that students learned best when they felt the most comfortable. Professor Hammond was not a big fan of outside reading either. We had only one book for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Ethics and Education Essay Ethics and Education Ethics and Morals are two important words everyone knows, but which very few truly understand. Ethics is defined, in Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary, as the discipline dealing with what is good and what is bad. Morals are defined, in the same dictionary, as those principles of right and wrong in behavior. For Kozol in The Night Is Dark and I Am Far From Home, ethics and morals have similar definitions but extend to include a sense of compassion for others. I agree with his argument that the purpose of schooling is to educate an ethical human being: a person who not only lives his life by facts and knowledge but also by ethics and morals. The need for schools to address ethics and morals is important...show more content... Since in school are where children interact most often with any adult, it should be standard for schools to have ethics and morals in their curricula. However, the decision of what ethics and whose morals to include in curricula poses a problem for many schools. With so many different ways of thought and senses of morality, the ability to decide on one standardized set of ethics and morality proves to be almost impossible. The decision is also difficult since morality at times is synonymous with religion and deciding on a particular set of morality can be interpreted as favoring a certain religion within a school. Other problems with this system are a teacher's possible conflict with certain ethical and moral issues they may have to convey to their students. What if a teacher does not believe in a certain ethical guideline in the curriculum or what if they do not believe an ethical decision is required for a certain discipline? A system of ethics which encompasses many beliefs, yet does not isolate one exactly, is the only useful method in a school. The system of ethics that Kozol proposes does not seem to corner any particular religion and is merely a law–abiding way of life with a concern for the welfare of others. This idea of compassion in education will cause students to be ethical and moral not only outside of the classroom Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Definition of Education Essay Definition of Education Education what is it? It is defined as: 1. The act or process of educating or being educated. 2. The knowledge or skill obtained or developed by a learning process. 3. A program of instruction of a specified kind or level. 4. The field of study that is concerned with the pedagogy of teaching and learning, according to the American Heritage dictionary. Its etymology comes from the Latin word "educatio which means to bring up"1 But what does that tell us. It says to me that education is training not learning. Education trains the youth into what society deems as a productive member. We are not educated to seek out what our interests are . We are educated so we can produce things. The age of...show more content... It is stated nowhere. Education should be about becoming enlightened to the works of the world. I am not saying becoming a lawyer or a business person is wrong or inimical. What I am saying is being a artist or philosopher is just as advantageous. In fact art and philosophy should be made standard issue in schools. We all need to know how to think for ourselves. This is not an easy thing to accomplish, we would need more money for schools in order to pay for teachers and materials. This would not completely solve the problem however. We must change the way we think and take control of ourselves. It is essential that we not be lead blindly. It is time that we hold people accountable for their actions. No longer are we be to lead by people just because they belong to a political party that we belong to. Instead we must be independent in our thoughts. Most importantly education should be a tool not a crutch. Education is defined in many ways, however, they all mean the same thing. To be formed into the mold of a productive worker. What does this do for the world? Nothing, it creates another mindless drone to carry out the work of its master. The people in power do not want this to change because it serves their purposes. We must change or over time we will lose our ability to think for ourselves. Then we are truly "dammed" to subservience. What type of life could that ever be? • 12. Essay about Higher Education Higher education is optional, but to enter a respectable career, one must continue their education in order to achieve his financial and/or personal goals. Teenagers who attend college use their extended schooling to further obtain knowledge. The primary objective of higher education is to enhance one's abilities for his future. A student can learn from school in numerous ways, but liberal education is not a way to attract students into further and higher education. However, students can learn a lot more through experiences that have affected their personal lives. I agree with author Mike Rose's theory that education needs are reached to obtain a higher academic level by teaching students information that can be related to their personal...show more content... However, he has not thought about the students who want to attend college and quickly earn their degree so they can start their careers. I disagree with Bloom because he encourages the idea of taking extra irrelevant classes to achieve the experience of education. It usually takes about four years to earn a bachelors degree. There are many courses such as English, math, history, art, etc. that a student must go through before they get to start on the classes that concentrate on their intended major. These basic courses are part of a program called general education. After completing general education (which usually takes about two years), the students can then begin to study for their degree. Colleges should abandon the law of students having to take general education courses because the courses are irrelevant to their field of study, unnecessary and a waste of time. Instead of taking the extra courses, students can simply meet their needs of a degree in a shorter period of time. Also, Bloom not only that wants students to take general education courses, he wants them to further their education by taking advanced irrelevant courses. Therefore, in their future, they would have numerous opportunities for a better career. Because if a job is not right for the student, he would have other choices to obtain a new job. Rose feels students should not learn from the canon books style. Students have an easier time learning when they relate to the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Essay on What Is the Purpose of Education? Getting educated is very important for every person. It goes without saying that each of us has to have a proper education. We learn how to read, count and write. These are the basic abilities we acquire and use during our life. Is there any other purpose of education or it is aimed only at giving us a possibility to communicate our ideas and satisfy basic needs? During centuries, there were different interpretations of the purpose of education. Many scientists, pedagogues and philosophers tried to answer the question: what is the purpose of education? Taking into consideration the needs and tendencies of a modern society, we can assume that the purpose of education is to prepare students to be self–sufficient citizens capable of solving ...show more content... Our education should be aimed at educating people who love the world they lie in and who are ready to become peacemakers and healers of the world (Orr 55). A sustainable society "consists" of citizens, workers, specialists, technicians, etc, who are ready to work in order to build and support such society. One of the ways to provide such education is to "get outdoor". The skills and abilities develop in real world and not in artificial situations in class. In this regard, we may refer to the Plato's "Allegory of the Cave". One should "touch" the real world problems and get personal experience from it. Shadows in the cave are the retrospectives of the real knowledge. To acquire the knowledge, we should leave the "cave". We can learn theory separated from practice and this will not have any result. Instead, we should understand that every individual is a part of the natural world, thus, education should be based on ecological literacy as "health of our planet" is one of the most urgent questions of the modern social community. For many centuries, the principles of the classical education were in the spotlight. The good of the individual, realizing his/her own potential were the purposes of the learning process. Cultural development is the aim of the classical education. It stands above everything, including religion. (Nietzsche, n. p.). Referring to Plato's "Allegory of the Cave" to interpret the classical education in modern society, we can say that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
