2. INTRODUCTION
• Solar water heating (SWH) is the conversion of sunlight into heat
for water heating using a solar thermal collector.
• SWHs are widely used for residential and some industrial applications.
• The global solar thermal market is dominated by China, Europe, Japan
and India, although Israel was one of the first countries to mandate
installation of SWH in 1980, leading to a flourishing industry.
2
3. Basic Components of SWHs
• Flat Plate Collector
• Insulated Water storage tank
• Insulated pipes connecting flat plate collector and to the storage tank
• Auxiliary heater
3
4. Flat Plate Collector
It is the device use to convert solar energy into thermal energy and consist
of following component :-
- Absorber
-Transparent Cover
-Insulation
-Tube fins
-Frame
4
5. Water Storage Tank
Purpose: A hot water storage tank (hot water
tank, Thermal storage tank, Heat storage tank) is
a water tank use to storing hot water for space
heating and domestic use.
Insulation: The most common type of water
heater blanket is a fiber glass insulation with a
vinyl film on the outside.
5
6. Insulated Pipes
Purpose: To transport fluid to the lower header of the collector (cold water) to the top
the storage tank (hot water).
Material: Galvanized Iron Sheet.
Properties: -This material is tough and strong.
- It can be fairly easily worked (bent or formed).
- Its last a long time ,too , because the zinc coating inhibits corrosion quite.
6
7. Auxiliary Heater
PURPOSE:
->An auxiliary heater is attached to the tank to
provide supplement heat during cloudy days.
->Freezing protection during winter season.
->Act as heat exchanger.
7
8. Types Of Solar water Heating
1. Closed Loop System: In closed Loop system the heat exchangers are installed to
protect the system from hard water obtained from bore wells or freezing
temperatures in the cold region.
2. Open Loop System: Its has two caterogies :-
->Natural Circulation System
->Forced Circulation System
8
10. Application
• Bathing
• Laundry application in hotels ,hospitals , hostels etc.
• Cooking (Pre-heating of water helps in reduction of use of fuel)
• Various Industrial applications.
10
11. Conclusion
• Source is abundant in nature so enjoy with free cost of energy.
• Cheaper cost as compare to other heating system.
• Due to constraint of energy availability , it is most suitable.
• Keep the environment clean.
