National Grid is undertaking the $11 million Ohio Street - Buffalo River Project to improve electrical infrastructure by installing underground conduit and rebuilding a substation. The project involves excavating 8,000 tons of soil and limestone using microtunneling to connect two shafts located north and south of the Buffalo River over 320 days. When completed, it will help meet electricity demand in the growing Buffalo area.

Part of this plan includes the Ohio Street – Buffalo River Project, which involves installing underground conduit.
It also includes rebuilding a National Grid station at the corner of Ganson and Ohio Streets.
Construction on the Ohio Street – Buffalo River Project began in November, 2017. It is expected to be completed
in July, 2018.
