Small Hydroelectric power station
1. TEACHER INGRĪDA NITIŠA, HER PUPILS (GRADE 5), AND
PARENTS (ESPECIALLY ĒRIKA’S DAD, LAURA’S MUM, RAITIS’S
DAD,) ORGANIZED A FIELD TRIP TO SMALL HYDRO ELECTRIC
POWER STATIONS IN AMBEĻI, DAUGAVPILS REGION ON THE
RIVER DUBNA. TEACHERS EVA AND GUNA ASSISTED AND
REALLY ENJOYED THE FIELD TRIP.
2. PUPILS FROM GRADE 5 ARE ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS OF
ETWINNING PROJECT
REDUCE-REUSE- RECYCLE. AND OUR FIELD TRIP WAS
A PART THE ACTIVITIES RELATED TO THIS PROJECT.
3. ADVANTAGES OF HYDROELECTRIC POWER
The most important:
It is a renewable form of Erika’s dad made a comparison:
energy «There was a useless field,
nobody needed it, but then one
Energy is rather cheap, because day a road was made and people
of low costs; were surprised how they could
The pollution is minimal; have lived before without that
These plants are largely road. The field became useful.
automated (no employees); The same is with the river»
Station can be of any size, it
depends on the river and stream
Stations can operate for many
years;
Small HEPS are more economic
for home owners than solar
power
5. THE RIVER DUBNA
We visited three
stations.
Ērika’s dad Mr
Romanovs was our
guide, he told us about
these stations:
The first station was
build in 2001.
They produce 500kW
per hour, and each
family consumes
about 200 per month
6. THE RIVER DUBNA
There are about
180 small stations
in Latvia and they
make 15% of all the
hydro power in
Latvia.
And three of them
are in Ambeļi. We
had a great
opportunity to have
a walk, enjoy the
nature and learn a
lot as well.
