At present in our campus (VIT),most of energy is produced from the
Non renewable resources .It is not good to depend more on these
non renewable resources because the name itself says that these
resources are not again available once they have over.so we should
depend on renewable resources as much as possible.from now itself
we shouid depend on these sources as we know the reasons .More
over energy from non renewable resources is responsible for
pollution.so keeping thtse things in mind,we should use renewable
resources as much as we can.yes,I agree we should use non
renewable resources, but to a small extent.
There are so many ways to shift our dependence of resources.so lets
have a look on them in detail.
3. 1.Solar energy is the energy present in sunlight, which if
harnessed by solar panels can be converted into
electric energy and be used to replace the electricity that
runs on fossil fuels, a rapidly depleting non renewable
source of energy and one that causes severe pollution. The
latest Solar Plant was installed on the roof of the p block
(boys hostle). The computers in laboratory, used for
student and faculty access to the internet, should be run
exclusively on the solar energy acquired from the panel .
The solar plant was to be used to provide energy to heat
a water tank on the hostel terrace. This water will be
provided in the bathrooms of the hostel floors, sothat
needs of the students,.
4. This reduces the wastage of electricity on geysers for
bathing and gas on boiling water for cooking. If solar
panel is placed on the Hall/Library building ,that will
provides electricity to the lecture rooms, the Reference
Library and the Hall. It is interconnected with the Electric
Supply and Transport (BEST) line, which supplements the
solar plant when necessary.
DON’T WASTE ELECRTICITY…………..
5.
6. Though the solar energy installation is a huge investment, it is a
permanent solution to the environmental problem. It is an eco
friendly alternative and also cuts down on electricity bills. The
country should benefit from this and opt for solar energy
instead.”
But this is not the only environment-friendly initiative that should be
taken by our college, there are some more
2.Light Bulb Replacement
Replacing traditional incandescent bulbs with CFLs can cut lighting
costs by up to 75%. This University should use incandescent light
bulbs compact fluorescent bulbs ,which they anticipate will save
residents ,and will eliminate 200 tons of CO2 annually.
7. 3.Biomass
We should replace the electric heat with a biomass heating plant that
burns wood chips.
VIT is should set to start its biomass plant which will reduce greenhouse
gas emissions. The plant will require tons of wood chips a year to operate.
As we get more wood when it rained because of falling trees, we can
use them..
4.White Roofs
At this University flat roofs should have been upgraded to reflective white
roofs, thus decreasing the solar heat gain of the facility and reducing
demand for cooling. So that 5useage of air conditioners wiil be reduced to
some extent not completely
8. 5. Installation of Solar PV Panel:
VIT has unique feature to have pathways along with main
road for pedestrians. In order to prevent them from bright sunshine
these pathways are covered with steel sheets. I has come up with an
idea to install solar PV panels on all
the pathways which lies in north-south direction. This proposal
will not require any extra land as we are going to install
PV panels on shaded pathways moreover PV panels will absorb
energy from sunlight and prevent more heating of steel
shades which eventually help pedestrians to feel more comfortable
and cool to walk down the shade. We recommend to
installs PV panels directly connected to load through inverters.
Battery storage is not recommended due to high battery
cost
10. 6. Installing Bio Digester for Electricity production
from sludge from sewage water treatment plant:
There are more than 15000 students living in VIT hostels.
Approximately
3220 kilo liter sewage water is treated in 8 sewage
water treatment plants which generate about 1000 kg dry
sludge per day.
We propose to produce bio gas from the dry sludge and use
the same biogas in 100% gas engine coupled with generator to
produce power.
11. 7. Application of ‘Presence detectors’ in
Toilets/Washroom:
About 15,000 students live in VIT hostels and more than
20,000 students attend classes in academic buildings. There are
about 356 washrooms in VIT campus all around. Lights are
kept switched on for whole night as well as some time in day
also. This causes a huge wastage of electricity when no one is
using washrooms.
I propose to install presence detectors in each washroom
area. The detector will be kept switched off in day time and on
in night time. Whenever a person will enter the washroom it
will detect and switched on the lights and when no one is there in
washroom area it will switched off the lights. This will
help in saving a huge amount of electricity which is being
wasted in night time when no one is utilizing it.
12. Once upon a time there were no alternatives to notebooks,
textbooks and folders full of handouts from professors. While
there are still plenty of these items floating around university
campuses, there’s definitely a switch towards doing things
more digitally, and the devices we carry around with us daily
help this greatly.
Whenever possible, take advantage of technology to reduce
paper usage. Make notes on your computer, and only print
things out if you really need to. Just remember to back
everything up regularly! To have an even bigger impact on
creating a sustainable campus, you can also encourage
classmates and staff to go digital too.CAT-1 should be on
tablet…..
8.GO digital
15. 9.. Transportation
In an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from student, faculty, and
university vehicles, campuses are
implementing innovative methods to reduce vehicle fuel usage.
Maximum students should purchase bicycles ,so that usuage of shettle cabs
will reduse.yes I know thatevry student cant purchase those cycles,so they
should cabs.so for these purpose we should modify the cabs that is using fuels
to using solar energy.so that ,usage of fuels will reduse .so simultaneously
pollution will also decrease.Free bus service should be increased.
