4. 1. IDENT PACKAGE
ā¢ This section is where you will be planning your overall
ident āpackageā
ā¢ This should include all design docs for your idents (min. 3
for the package)
ā¢ You should ensure that your package has a consistency of
design, font, colour, tone, etc
ā¢ Consider giving you ident package a working title, try and
use a title that defines your concept
5. CONCEPT
Summarise your concept in a single statement, how does it
fit the audience and best represent the channel type you are
working on? You could add in visual aids to fully express
this.
My concept consists of a lot of colour, shapes and artistic
shots. I intend my idents to show a lot of artistic conventions
that fit the audience such as paint splats and geometric
shapes which fit into a montage that result in telling a story.
As my channel is arts and progressive I can also add
elements of the performing arts such as dancing and acting
to give more diversity to my channel.
6. LOGO DESIGN
In this first logo design I have taken the original logo and
changed the shapes of the squares. On Photoshop I have
used the āskewā and āperspectiveā tools to distort the shapes
into looking more abstract. This adds an artistic flare to the
logo. Because I have kept the logo black I decided to change
the colour and font of the name āThe Gridā to a colour palette
that refers to very pastel paint and quite cool toned colours
which I think compliments the black very well.
If I were to do this logo design again I would add more
geometric shapes to the design, doing this would make my
logo look more detailed, also the idea of using these distorted
shapes fits my brand of āarts and progressiveā very well.
In this second design I have took the idea of using the shade
black but taken it a step further by creating and black, white
and grey themed logo. Here I have taken individual squares,
like what were around the edge of the original logo, changed
the shading and created a āgridā inside the square. This visual
links to the name of the channel. To add an artistic flare to this
logo I have taken a paint dripping design and added a black to
grey gradient overlay to both fit the brand of the channel and
to fit with the aesthetic of the logo. Having this layer on top of
the box gives the appearance that the paint is dripping down
the logo. To finish off this logo I kept the original font but added
an outer glow of white so the text stands out quite boldly from
the darker shades of the background, also making the logo
slightly more soft and smooth compared to logo one.
7. LOGO DESIGN
This third logo is quite different to the first two. For this design I
wanted the logo to look more simple yet more professional. To
create this logo I took the original shape, text and font of the
original logo but lightened the black to a pale grey. However I did
not want the logo to look completely black and white like my
previous designs. By taking the design of a paint/ brush stroke
and filling it with a gradient overlay of pastel paint tones, similarly
to the font of my first design, gives this logo a more lively colour
palette that also fits with the brand of my channel. The contrast
of square and circular shapes resulted in forming together very
smoothly this was achieved by lowering the opacity of the
original square shape and placing the brush stroke circle being
the top layer to add depth.
In this final design I have taken the idea of the pastel paint
colours and taken it all the way. I have not used the idea of black
and white anywhere in this design and have focused on using
the colours of the paint in all areas to fully represent the brand of
my channel. Here I have taken the original shape of the logo and
multiplied it 4 times leaving me with four of the same shape.
Next I took the colours of my brush stroke circle in my previous
design and assigned a colour to each layer. Then by lowering
the opacity and layering the shapes upon one another I result in
this design that shows the depth of the shapes and the colour
palette I have decided to use. To make the top layer stand out
from the rest I have added a small outer glow to disconnect the
top layer from the rest. To finish off the deign I have taken the
text, changed the font to a more smooth flowing artistic font and
used a block white colour to make it stand out.
8. SOUND DESIGN
When it comes to the sound I am going to use in my ident, I am going to focus
mainly on a soundtrack that is going to play over my idents. I want to steer more
towards classical music for my suite of idents, this is because classical music can
be very slow and soft which will fit seamlessly to my editing as I want to include
some slow motion shots in my sequences. I am going to get this sound from
places like YouTube where I can download short or long tracks. Also if I wanted to
music to be my own I could digitally compose music on a software such as
MusicScore or Sibelius. This would not be of the same quality as a professional
score however it would be original music.
However I do not want my idents to consist of only a soundtrack therefore I think
adding some diegetic sound such as paint splats would give some depth to the
audio in my work. To achieve these sounds I can download existing sounds from
YouTube or I can take a sound recorder and create my own sounds using things
like paint or water. Then in post production I can edit the sounds pitch so they fit
the the slow motion shots I am going to be using.
9. MOTION GRAPHICS AND
COMPOSITING TECHNIQUES
Explain the techniques you are using in your idents ā you MUST
include a motion track, composite shots using at least some
original filmed footage and animated graphics [logo and/or text]
In my idents I am going to use bother my own filmed footage and some animated
graphics to show versatility in my work. The filmed footage with be of my subject
and the animations will be things such as geometric shapes that will appear on
screen. When editing my idents I am going to use two techniques, I am going to
editing between shots of my own filmed footage with animations shapes and
colours on another background and I am going to use after effects to merge both
animation graphics and my own footage together.
For my motion track I am going to use shapes and colours to track to the subject
on the screen and form into my chosen logo which will result in the end of my
ident. This can be done differently in each ident however I want to stick to a
specific style throughout to link the idents all together and show a relationship
between them.
11. IDENT 1
For my first ident I want to use the idea of having a subject throughout
the ident. My subject for my first idea is going to be a cat. I can film the
cat running throughout the house and outside. Throughout this montage
of the cat running I am going to use after effects to create large geometric
shapes that will move in and out of frame, having the subject react to the
animations. The shapes are going to form the logo by the end of the ident
which will fade to a black background displaying just the logo. During the
course of all these visuals I am going to have classical music playing to
compliment the softness of the slow motion and the gentleness off the
subject. I am going to emphasize the footsteps of the cat using enhanced
diegetic sound and animation to add coloured footprints where the cat
steps. This will fit the brand of the āarts and progressiveā channel as this
will appear to look like paint.
13. IDENT 2
For the second ident I decided to continue the idea of having the subject
of the indent interacting with the animations and visual effects which
result in forming the logo. However in this ident I have decided to change
to subject from an animal to a human. The subject is going to be a
dancer, this relates to my āArts and Progressiveā theme as this is a part of
the performing arts. This allows the subject to create shapes and artistic
movements with their bodies. While the subject is moving and dancing
the graphics of the logo are going to move swiftly near and around the
subject. Doing the filming in an empty room will allow all the focus on my
subject. The colour palette of this ident is going to be very minimalistic
when it comes to the footage, I am going to make the footage quite flat
and blue toned so when the bright colours of the animation are put in it
will make the appear much more bold and vibrant.
15. IDENT 3
For my third ident idea, I wanted to follow the idea of doing something
related to the performing arts. This ident involves a pianist playing the
piano on a blank white background. In this we see the pianist playing at
several different angles. The music the pianist is playing will be the
soundtrack being played over the ident. I intend to use a classical piece
of music which will comfortably fit with the soft editing and soft colour
scheme. Unlike the previous two ident ideas, I am not going use a bright
and vibrant colour scheme here. I want the theme of āArtsā in this ident to
be focused on the music/ soundtrack.
