Lesson tips and ideas<br />USED in LATVIA<br />Day 1.<br />A teacher and students go to Bastejkalns, which is one of the parks in the city centre with a view on Old Riga, the Monument of Freedom and a part of Riga. The place was chosen so students could feel free of the school’s atmosphere and get some inspiration.<br />You can do this on any way you like in your environment.<br />Objectives of the lesson: <br />,[object Object]
To understand and to accept the cultural heritage and its importance nowadays.
To deveope patriotic feelings about Latvia.
Part of the lessonTeacherStudentsIntroductionGives each group a set of cards with letters. Have to arrange the letters in order to guess the key word of the lesson, which is „Identity“ Identity – things that make a person and nation unique.In groups do mindmaping on identity. (Then discuss the ideas together)Main partIs cultural heritage important to person or to nation?statements:„Cultural heritage is important“„Cultural heritage is not important“Debates:Students are divided in two groups.-It is important because that’s who we are.-It is important because it was important to our parents.-It is important because that’s our roots.-If we didn’t have any heritage we wouldn’t have anything to be proud of and tourists wouldn’t come here and we would be poor.-Our heritage is what makes us different from other people, other counties and nations.-It is not important because you can live in any country you want and in this case it is not possible to bring your heritage with you.-It is not important because you have to throw away old things you actually do not use.Explains the words „tangible“ and „intangible“ by examples from environment around Bastejkalns.In groups leaf the travel catalogue „Another Travel Guide Riga“  and discuss, which is tangible and which is intangible heritage. (pictures no 4)What do you think people like about your country and what not?Write their opinion on paper individually.(pictures no 5,6)What do you think ,which are those special qualities people like about you?Read out and students try to guess, who has written each text.Write their opinion on paper individually.ConclusionWhich 3 aspects of Identity you find most important? If you had to make a travel catalogue about your country and people, which 3 topics you would include? Home taskStudents choose:a place in hometown;clothing;hobbies.For next time they have to choose one of 3 topics and to bring/e-mail their own pictures that could be used as visual matherial in a travel catalogue. They work on the travel catalogue „Just Another European Identity.“ There can be 3 chapters: a place to see in my hometown, clothing, hobbies.<br />Day 3.<br />Objectives of the lesson:<br />,[object Object]
To understand and to accept similarities and differences in various cultures.Part of the lessonTeacherStudentsPresentation of „Just Another European Identity.“Could you answer one simple question - where do you live?Have you ever felt that you live in Europe?-When is it?-Here.-In Riga.-In Latvia.-On Earth.-No.-Never.-Sometimes. (2 students). I don’t know. When there is this Eurovision contest maybe. When I travel. I feel European.Identity game with statements <br />USED in the NETHERLANDS<br />,[object Object]
