Introduction To Psychology Course Analysis
I've learned a lot of useful information in the Introduction to Psychology course throughout the semester. Three principles that would be helpful with
internships include: understanding the difference between a growth or fixed mindset, the importance of emotional intelligence, and ways to handle
stress. Each of the principles that I have learned in the Introduction to Psychology course can assist me at an internship by allowing me to realize my
potential, foster professional interactions with my peers and mentors, and manage stress appropriately.
Throughout the course, we discussed two mindsets that students portray in how they approach learning. The first is a growth mindset where a child
recognizes that intelligence can be continuously developed as long as you're willing to embrace challenges, learn from criticism, and see effort as a

Patrick A. Cabe, from the Department of Psychology and Counseling at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, makes a convincing case of

Psychology is a field that is broken down into many subfields, each field distinctive in their nature. One of the most studied fields is developmental
psychology. Before I explain the field in depth, it is important to understand what developmental psychology is, and how it came to be. Developmental
psychology is mainly a scientific approach, which aims to explain how children and adults change overtime (Lerner, Lewin–Bizan, & Warren, 2011).
Most uniquely, it is a field that looks at change over time and what instigated those changes (Miller, 2011). The discipline itself has two main goals: to

The IV was the group or individual, and the DV was the number of ginger granules in the glass jar. Two separate rooms were used; one for interview
of the individual – one at a time. When not being interviewed the individual was instructed to go the second room where the rest of the group resided –
for the period of the experiment. Both rooms contained only the subjects of the experiment, and of course the experimenter, and no one else was
permitted into the aforementioned areas. Television, radio and other forms of communicative devices were forbidden from these areas.
The participants were three members of a family. The first was male and 67 years of age. The second was female and 52 years old. The third member

In Psychology 101 we learned that research methods are used in order to understand our mental and behavioral processes by making observations in a
systematic way, following strict rules of evidence and thinking critically about that evidence. This scientific research is based on theories (tentative
explanations of observations in science), hypotheses (predictions based on a theory) and replication (testing a hypothesis in more than one study).
Some of the different research methods are firstly, descriptive studies. Descriptive studies are studies that use survey methods, naturalistic observation
and clinical methods. Another research method is correlational studies. Correlational studies are studies that help one to determine if a relationship
exists between two or more variables and if so it tells one how strongly those two variables relate to one another. With in correlational studies one can
have positive correlation (as one variable increases or decreases so does the other), negative correlation (variables go in opposite directions) or zero

This semester, I took the class Intro to Psychology where I learned about the scientific study of thoughts and behaviors. Throughout the class, we were
taught basics of psychology, researching in psychology, biology of behavior, the human development, and human learning. Intro to Psychology
prepared me for my future and provided me an understanding of how behavior and thoughts worked. Four things that I learned about psychology out of
the whole class, however, is how the nervous system, fetus development, teratogens, and classical conditioning all relate to psychology and how each
one works.
In order for our bodies to act or to give an automatic response, our bodies need to have a nervous system where neurons can communicate with the
neurons in our brains. The nervous system controls our responses which gives us the ability to have a behavior towards a stimulus. Our nervous system
has two main parts, the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. The central nervous system includes the brain and spinal cord;

The heartbeats, the movements of our head are behavior. The way we eat, the way we drink, the way we walk, we talk, are behavior. The
construction of a bridge, the composition of a song are behavior. The fantasies of a child, the dreams of a adolescent, the illusions of an alcoholic
are behavior. Although we are all familiar with human behavior, a little do we understand or we can explain about it. Since our infancy we learn
about behavior through the experiences and the knowledge that we get by observing other people or having relations with them. Living in society
leads us to watch and try to explain the way people behave. But that is not always easy. Sometimes we cannot understand even ourselves. Psychology
comes to give answers to all this uncertainty. Therefore, according to modern psychology, the term behavior means all the conscious, unconscious,
verbal, mental and kinetic expressions of ourselves. Psychology uses statistic researches so as to distinguish the normal behavior from the abnormal
one. Such a thing is very difficult because every society has its own behavior standards, and, consequently, an act that is normal according to one
society, may be abnormal according to another. For example, polygamy is not permitted in Europe, but it is permitted in certain societies in Africa. So,
the judgement of a behavior must bear in mind the social environment in which it takes place .
