1. HAGERTY CENTER
NORTHWESTERN
MICHIGAN COLLEGE
NOVEMBER 2013
TRAVERSE CITY, MI
The Hagerty Center is a premier water-
front venue for lifelong learning
located on the Northwestern Michigan
College Great Lakes Campus in
Traverse City, MI. The site provides
state of the art, 380-seat conferencing
facilities for local, regional, national
and international groups. Learning
opportunites include seminars, confer-
ences and specialized training. All
rooms feature the latest in audio/visual
technology, updated by Custer
Technology. This modern and comfort-
able space can be configured to suit
the requirements of trade show exhib-
its, conferences and banquets. Flexible
floor plans and large windows
overlooking Grand Traverse Bay offer
the perfect backdrop for any commu-
nity event. From business retreats to
elegant dinners, the Hagerty Center
provides an unforgettable experience.
As the premier meeting and conven-
tion facility in northwestern Michigan,
the Hagerty Center identified the need
to update its technology capabilities
and functionality. The dated amenities
were replaced with integrated technol-
ogy solutions, future-proofing the
event center and its relevance to
prospective groups. The Hagerty
Center now boasts distinguished
video-conferencing capabilities as
well as top-of-the-line presentation
functionality.
This was a unique project to Custer
as only the Custer Technology
division was involved. The project
included the installation of 6 brighter
ceiling mounted projectors; 2 80” flat
panel displays; an extensive wireless
microphone system; enhanced
outdoor audio capabilities; as well as
audio conferencing and digital
cabling infrastructure to accommo-
date contemporary computers and
portable devices.

Rooms A, B, and C are separate spaces that
can be combined to create a large meeting
area. In rooms A and B, Custer Technology
installed new Epson high brightness projec-
tors in existing ceiling lifts, with displays on
existing projector screens, to provide the
Hagerty Center its desired contemporary
technology support. JBL commercial speak-
ers replaced the existing speakers through-
out the room. 80” wall mounted Sharp LED
displays were installed with Chief TV mounts
to be used for presentations, slideshows, and
special events. At the front of the room sits a
Marshall podium with a Shure wireless and
wired microphone and built-in control
interface. This interface allows the user to
control volume, turn the projector on and off,
and enables devices at the podium to display
on the projector.
Room D is the Hagerty Center’s smallest
meeting room. Because of its smaller size,
Custer installed: Biamp audio conferencing
to minimize echo and provide clear audio for
teleconferencing; JBL speakers to minimize
echo; and two ceiling mounted Polycom
microphones to pick up voices in a
360-degree area. An Epson projector
replaced the previous system, to be used
alongside a Da-Lite projection screen.
Because the Hagerty Center hosts many
outdoor events, Custer also installed 5
outdoor, weatherproof JBL speakers around
the Center’s patio to enhance the audio
experience during their many special events.
Room C is larger in size than Rooms A and B,
with the added appeal of overlooking the
West Grand Traverse Bay. Several technol-
ogy updates were made to better serve the
Hagerty Center’s audio and visual needs.
Two Epson projectors and ceiling speakers
from JBL replaced dated technology
throughout the space. Two 80” Sharp LED
displays were added. A Vaddio presenter
camera was installed for recording and
archiving presentations, as well as a Pana-
sonic “confidence” camera in each room,
allowing the Hagerty Center’s staff to moni-
tor room usage from their on-site control
center. In all four rooms, a Crestron control
system panel was installed to give users
access to functionality of the room, input
select, volume control, and other settings.
