THE UNBORN
The trailer for The Unborn starts with a women on the phone, she is talking about
how she is looking after children, this tells us that she is not their mother. The
music is quite loud but smooth, it then starts to build as she hears a noise from
upstairs and then strange noises on the baby monitor. She then goes to see what is
wrong and she sees the little boy out of bed and whispering “Some people are
doorways.” As she tells him to go to bed he turns and punches her, as he does this
the music gets louder and there is a sound effect for the impact he has on her. He
then says “He wants to be born now.”
The trailer then flashes between the little boy and another young boy who looks
like a demon. This suggests that they have some sort of connection. As this is
happening the music gets a lot faster and louder. It then changes pace as it slows
down and the music is just a simple piano playing.
The women then goes to the opticians as friend said there was something wrong
with her eye. The optician then mentions that the iris’ can be different colours on
occasion when dealing with twins, but she replies with “but I’m an only child.”
This is when the audience know something is wrong.
THE UNBORN- PLOT
The women then starts to see the young boy who looked like a demon in the
street but he fades away quickly, this is when we know he is a ghost.
She then asks her father is she was a twin and he explains to her that her twin
died in the womb.
The next part of the trailer shows the women with an older women who
shows her a picture of a young girl and boy and says “Your mother never told
you, but I knew.” the music then changes and sounds almost like violent wind,
the audience know that there is going to be another turning point.
We then see the women standing at a gravestone which implies it was her
twins.
She then watches a tape which the demon is in and the music begins to be
high pitched again.
PLOT CONTINUED
The next part of the trailer is the women waking up in bed, however, she is floating above
her sleeping body and watching herself and screaming as the blanket lifts off her and she
sees at the demon is lying next to her, holding her stomach. At this stage the music is very
loud and high pitched, its very intense.
She then says “Do you think its possible to be haunted by someone who has never even
been born?” This explains what is happening to the audience.
It then shows clips of her being taunted in between text cards showing the writers of the
film etc.
She then tells others that it is not safe to be around her and she asks how she can stop it.
The next clip shows that they are going to try an exorcism.
After the exorcism we see that the demon starts to hurt people and possess other people
who are helping.
By the end of the trailer it is extremely fast paced, the music gets faster and louder, it then
slows again and a sound of a heart beating is heard, the trailer ends with the women
walking towards her mother who is sitting down and facing the other way, as she
approaches she screams and the trailer ends.
PLOT CONTINUED
The first shot on the trailer is the outside of the house, it then cuts to the
women talking on the phone.
As she hears a noise there is a close up of her face to see her reaction.
There is then an over the shoulder shot as she walks towards the young boy.
Another close up is used as the young boy speaks.
The quick shots between the two boys have a big impact as they show that the
are somehow connected as it blurs their faces into each other during the
changes.
There is then a long shot of the city to show where it is all happening. Whilst
she is jogging there is a medium shot of her and then a medium shot of her in
the shower at the gym which suggests that some time has past.
Each time the women enters a new place the audience are shown the outside
of the building before it cuts to her.
EDITING
The music at the beginning of the trailer is steady and is one long note, this sets the pace.
There is a bang as the young boy hits the women, this is to increase the impact and make the audience jump.
The music then builds up as the screen flashes between two pictures, the music as well as the editing suggest
the pace of the trailer is going to increase.
There is then a piano playing which again slows the pace of the trailer down, this is because the characters are
talking and explaining what the story is etc.
There are sound effects used such as a quick, low pitched notes each time the shot changes, this builds the
tension and speeds up the pace.
There is then one long, higher pitched note, this along with the piano also builds the tension as it is building
up and getting louder.
As the women watches the tape the music gets louder and more like wind.
There is then almost the sound of a heartbeat when the women is hovering over her own body, other than a
beat every second it is silent, this helps suggest that she cant do anything to stop what is happening, almost
sounds like an echo.
There is then a scream and the music builds again.
As it carries on there is a heat beat continuously playing as well as low pitched music and sound effects such
as banging and the sounds of fighting. This all suggests danger and increases the impact it has on the
audience.
