2. OVERVIEW
• The 25th International Contemporary Furniture Fair offered many
surprises. There were dollhouse-size candelabras inserted into hanging
glass bulbs like ships in a bottle. There was even wallpaper inspired by a
1909 New York Times article about a monkey in a bathhouse.
• But nothing caught the eye like the colossal head of William
Shakespeare emerging from an African carpet. Shakespeare in Africa, a
part of a collection by Milton Glaser, reflects the 83-year-old graphic
designer’s efforts to yoke together disparate objects in a way that avoids
scrambling the brain.
• There was bronze and copper used in many forms. Swarovski crystal
found their way into as many as possible household items. Reflecting the
emergence from a deep recession.
• The environment was addressed by the many products to protect us from
damaging sun rays ( deteriorating ozone). This issue was exhibited by
many sun shelters and out door screens.
• Recycled plastics were used in chairs ,lounges and other furniture.
