Describe your idea for the brief:
I am working on a heavy metal magazine. I was inspired by famous British
magazines like “Metal Hammer “and “Kerrang!”. So you will notice some traits
from them in my magazine, which I will borrow to create the needed effect on
my target audience.
Genre/ sub genre: list similar texts which have inspired your thoughts
My genre is heavy metal, sub-genre is industrial metal. I chose heavy metal
because it is one of my favourite types of music. I was inspired to choose this
genre by magazines like Kerrang! and Metal Hammer
Target audience: gender/ age/ characteristics/ behaviour
Gender-male and female
Age-16 to 25
Characteristics-like to listen to music, energetic, young, sociable
Behaviour-relaxed and friendly
Major conventions I will use:
Bold text and big masthead, since my genre is heavy metal.
Dominant image(s) with a direct motive address
Use some bright colours to create a contrast and make the text stand out on
dark background
Essential information(barcode, price and etc.)
Conventions I may subvert/ change/ not use
I may not use a lot of text because overwhelming majority of my target
audience are young and energetic people. So if I use too much text, the
magazine might look boring to my target audience
Original images: what/ where/ what
I will most likely take my photos outside. I might use a brick wall as a
background for some of my images to create a mysterious and edgy
impression.
Potential difficulties/ Plan B:
If the weather is going to be bad, e.g. heavy rain or wind, I will take my
photos in a studio, which has some technical advantages because I will have
a wider range of different backgrounds to choose from.
