Magistrate’s Court in Pretoria after receiving a bursary to study B. Iuris at the
University of South Africa, awarded to me by the Department of Justice.
Duties included:

February 1993 to March 1995: Department of Justice, Magistrate’s office in
Koster
On my own request I was transferred t in 1994 to the Magistrate office at Koster,
a smaller town in the rural areas, to gain the experience on the functioning of the
Justice system. During this period I worked as a clerk and a few months later as
a prosecutor in the District Court in Koster, although I had not yet completed my
degree.
My duties as a clerk included administrative functions such as drafting of charge
sheets, checking and filing of court records as well as assisting members of the
public with information on court cases and the Justice process.
As a prosecutor my duties included instituting criminal court proceedings against
accused and litigation in court on behalf of the state. In the District court I dealt
with less serious crimes like assault common, petty theft, traffic violations and
childcare maintenance.

November 1996 November 2000: National Prosecuting Authority,
Magistrate’s office Johannesburg
In November 1996 I was transferred to the Magistrate’s office in
Johannesburg (ONE OF THE BIGGEST Magistrate’s office in the country). I
was appointed as the control Prosecutor for the District Courts (12) in
Johannesburg in February 1997. I managed 26 prosecutors at this office.
This was my first managerial post.
Duties included:
Court roll planning for 12 courts
Receiving, auditing and analyzing monthly performance statistics
Decision making on instituting of criminal proceedings
Human resource management
Prosecuting Fraud and corruption cases
In 1998 the National Prosecuting Authority was created by statute as a
separate organization but still reporting to the Minister of Justice.
In 1998 I was promoted to specialist Prosecutor, specializing only murder
cases. I dealt with new murder cases, representing the state during
applications for bail, guiding the police in their investigations and provide
written legal opinions to the Office of the Director for prosecutions on the
charges against the accused and in which forum they should be charged.

Magistrate’s office Pretoria North
In November 2000 I was transferred to Pretoria North magistrate’s office.
In Pretoria-North there was a need for an experienced prosecutor to rectify
the operational and administrative problems which existed in the Control
Prosecutor’s office. I managed 12 prosecutors at this office.
I had to implement proper filing and administration- system. I did the
screening of all the new court cases and the distribution of the decision
dockets. In the absence of the Senior Prosecutor I was appointed the Acting
Senior Prosecutor. I was also involved in Human resource management and
administration as well as dealing with the disciplinary matters during this

July 2002 March 2003: National Prosecuting Authority, Magistrate’s office
Butterworth, Transkei
In July 2002 I was promoted to the rank of Senior Prosecutor for the office of
Butterworth in Transkei.
Within three months the Director of Public Prosecutions requested me to take over 9
of the 11 offices in the Butterworth cluster (Half of the North Eastern Cape province)
as he had lost faith in the management of the then Chief Prosecutor. I managed 28
prosecutors in this area.
After thorough inspection it was established that these offices did not have proper
administration systems.
A reshuffling of personnel was necessary and the prosecutors had to be motivated as
well as positively influenced in order to improve their performance.
After successfully implementing all the changes in the area,
Advocate J. Henning, the Deputy National Director for Prosecutions, transferred me
back to Pretoria.
I was placed in the position I currently hold, with the instruction to improve the
performance of this office as it was in a similar state to the offices in the Transkei.
