- [show Root Canal System and sub-bullets] “When we talk about doing a root canal, as a procedure, we’re really talking about a SYSTEM of steps that work together to get us to a goal – a perfectly cleaned and shaped canal that can be properly filled, while maintaining the natural strength of the tooth structure. [show Traditional Approach and sub-bullets] The traditional approach has been to open the occlusal surface down to the orifice using familiar dental procedures. After that, work down to the apex then shifts in nature. It’s that shift, however, that can actually cause us to waste tissue, produce a cumbersome glide path, and often get us into trouble.
