1. On-line surveillance system overlook
(integration and centralization of hotel control)
Efficient energy saving through better energy-generating product control
Surveillance and control of illumination, climatization, bathroom heating, water-flow, telephone,
window blinds and other feeders along with optimization of their way of work may result in significant
amount of energy saving, relating to size, position and type of object.
Better and more efficient staff and quality-of-service survey
Log lists, controllers for monitoring to-do lists, staff traffic reports, system for quick distribution of
messages, staff locator module: they all provide more efficient staff organization.
Better, simplier and more secure monitoring system for room access
Transponder cards combined with on-line system makes room access more secure and more
efficient. Any room controller can be reached simply from reception desk including programming and
deleting of card codes enabled for the present room. Staff cards can access to all controllers (rooms)
and in case of losing they can easily be replaced in all hotel.
On-line system makes almost momentary annuncing of card registration along with automatic invalid
cards cancellation.
2. Alarms – SOS, BURGLAR, TEMPERATURE, WATER, SUPPLY... (improved
security and quality of service)
Thanks to on-line system, alarms can be transfered to reception desk almost instantly and also
distributed to liable persons.
Generating reports (printer, e-mail, web - report)
On-line system records all important informations in log files. From this files reports can be
generated such as: movement of explicit person, staff’s undone duties, events in room (room
temperature, alarms, entry/exit), possible un-checked guests, etc.
3. Smart Room
Each room is equipped with a single
microprocessor-driven room controller
Sensors or actuators for all
devices/measurements/condition monitoring
can be placed to any suitable place to survey
and/or control
A card reader is installed in front of the door,
and a card holder is mounted in the lobby
(smart card holder able to recognize valid card)
A control console and lighting control keyboard
is also installed in the room
4. The room controller

14. Controller connections (layer III)
(room controller – alarms, warnings)
SOS
- a stroke (pull) switch is mounted in bathroom enabling user to pull when in immediate
need;
- controller registers active transition of SOS contact and sets alarm;
- upon set alarm, a blinking lamp appears on card reader along with message “SOS” on
controller console’s display;
- alarm also appears on reception’s PC SW;
- alarm can be confirmed 3 ways: by PIN (PC SW), by official master card put in card
holder, by pressing hidden key on controller console.
Water overflow (bathroom)
- a water presence sensor is mounted above the floor in bathroom;
- when water present, controller sets alarm visible only on reception’s PC SW;
- if a controlled valve is used, controller automatically closes it, thus stopping water
income.
- alarm can be confirmed by PIN (PC SW)
Unauthorised access
- if the door are opened without the card, controller sets alarm visible only on reception’s
PC SW;
- alarm can be confirmed by PIN (PC SW)
15. Controller connections (layer III)
(room controller – alarms, warnings)
Air-condition power failure
- controller monitors (separate) air-condition power supply ;
- controller registers no air-condition power supply failure (due to broken fuse or faulty
air-condition) and sets alarm visible only on reception’s PC SW;
- alarm can be confirmed by PIN (PC SW).
PIR detector
- mounted inside the room;
- when there’s no card in card holder if movement is detected, PIR detector “goes off”;
- controller registers PIR detector’s active state and sets alarm visible only on

18. Controlling the room temperature
Temperature control is based considering following parameters:
• Temperature set – represents default desired room temperature,
• Room temperature regulation – boundaries around temperature set within one can change
desired room temperature
• Eco. Hysteresis – temperature set’s bias usedwhen guest isn’t in the room
• Additional temperature hysteresis - when the room isn’t checked within next 24 hours
• Temperature calibration - possibility of fine tuning measured temperature
Parameters are set by an authorised person using PC SW.
One can set the room temperature only within allowed boundaries.
Energy saving regulation example
- Temperature set: 21°C
- Room temperature regulation: ±3°C
- Eco. hysteresis: ±3°C
- Additional temperature hysteresis: ±6°C
When guest is in the room (valid card in card holder), allowed regulation is 18÷24°C.
When guest leaves the room (but, the room is still checked), controller automatically sets room
temperature at 18 or 24°C, depending on air-condition heating/cooling state.
When guest returns in the room (valid card returned in card holder), controller enables room
temperature regulation.
If the monitoring system is connected to supported hotel management, a reservation
list based guest announciation module is enabled. Monitoring system increases energy
saving by enabling additional eco. mode for rooms that aren’t going to be checked within
next 24h.
19. Cards – classic key replacement
Dimension: L85mm, W54mm (ISO standard card)
Type: contactless card (transponder)
Resistant to pressure and scratching, impassive on magnetic fields
Available in various forms: keychain, bracelet...
Printable plastic surface, ready-to-print logos
Undefinite use (until phisically damaged)
Principle
Card contains an integrated circuit and an aerial.
When it is held near an electromagnetic field with corresponding frequency, the field provides
power supply by induction to integrated circuit thus enabling it to generate and send a uniform
40-bit card code that needs to be read using complex integrity check algorithms. With 40-bits
there can be 240, or 1.099.511.627.776 different cards, all this up to providing extreme
exploitation security.
After reading, system sends the code to controller and if it’s the valid one, the door is opened.
Inserting valid card in card holder controller enables “Guest in the room” mode.
When the validity of a certain card expires or it’s manually deleted from the system, controller
receives the information that this certain card is no longer authorized for this controller/room
(the card itself isn’t deleted, it can be used for other rooms or purposes).
Recommandations in use
It is recommended not to fix cards with room numbers and not to print room numbers on
cards. System of protection is best when issued cards are selected randomly.
20. Access control and hotel service payment
(additional card usage options)
Controllers can be used in any place inside or outside the hotel where there is
necessity for access control (garage, parking ramp, pool entry, sauna, solarium, etc.)
When issuing the card one can choose where it can be used. In this way, for
example, garage access can be granted only for guests that paid this service.
Access controlling controller can be time programmed in several modes:
1. fully accessible within a certain period of time (card not needed)
2. fully accessible to all hotel cards within a certain period of time
3. dual access capability (card and/or key usage)
4. not accessible within a certain period of time
If monitoring system is connected to hotel management system, key-cards can be
used as identification during payment at any place equipped with POS cash-desk.
21. One card for all!
Staff cards can...
access all rooms (or certain room
groups)
access additional facilities with
permission
disable alarms with permission
Guest cards can...
access one room, room vault(option)
access additional facilities with
permission
pay bills on POS cash-desks
Wellness, pool, sauna,
wardrobes...
Room, room vault
garage,
parking lot
POS cash-desk at any place inside or
outside hotel (beach bar..)
Hotel entry
22. Other functions and devices 1
Backup module (option) – takes over room monitoring in case of PC failure
in a way that recepcionist can register alarms and change the air-condition
mode. Recommended for larger hotels.
Staff registration module (option) – staff member has to register
himself/herself after the job is done. Device records time and person’s
name (written on display) and can be set to alarm reception if the required
registration isn’t done in time. Basic purpose is to replace toilette cleaning
schedule (any time PC SW can print a report).
Card “programmer” (basic package) – connected to reception’s room
monitoring PC or front-office reception management PC (if the
connecton to room monitoring PC is available). When new card is to be
issued, one has to put the (non-issued) card onto card programmer and
execute “programming”. If the card is used for payment, card
programmer is connected to POS cash-desk.
23. Other functions and devices 2
Quality and consumption of electrical energy supervision module,
consumption of hot and cold water supervision module (if pulse-
output water-gauges are used) – electrical energy survey. Module
displays current values of voltage, current, power (real, reactive,
apparent), voltage and current harmonics, THDs and consumpted
energy (real, reactive, positive and negative) by tariffs.
Programmable control module (option) – along with standard
input/output and measuring functions (analogue and digital inputs,
aka pool water and ambient temperature, wind strength, etc.) this
module can be equipped with different electrically controlled
devices such as fountains, lighting, shades, watering systems, etc.
According to defined program (defined on PC SW) module
automatically controls attached devices.
24. Software package for central control and
monitor over system
Software package in real-time makes possible...
setting room controllers’ parameters
data visualization representing current hotel state
audible and visual alarm representation (with obligatory confirmation)
key-card registration and deletion
controlling various devices inside and outside hotel
monitoring various resources (water, current cosumption,...)
log-files overview containing all relevant events
generating reports based on log-files
connecting to reception managment system

25. Levels of access in software
Three levels of access:
Unsecure level
PIN provided access
PUK provided access
PUK is a number defined by ADRIA-electronic and can be used only by authorised personnel in
aim to change settings or maintenance of PC SW. Each program installation has different PUK.
PIN is a number used for personnel identification. Various actions in program require
identification in order to record a name of person who carried out certain action (i.e. confirming of
alarm). PINs are defined by authorised personnel.
Authorised recepcionist – software makes possible authorised receptionist’s check-in/check-
out responsible in specific time period. Durig report generation, events recorded in log-file are
linked to the person who directly carried out recorded action ant to authorised receptionist.
Data protection – all card and log-file data are crypted according to a certain key.

33. Air-condition settings
Modes: manual, automatic, A/C module
Manual mode enables manual setting of air-condition
mode: heat or cool
Automatic mode: one controller is enabled as referent –
according to it’s parameter state and logic air-condition
mode is set
A/C module is mode where system autonomously
control air-condition (particular cotroller needs to be
installed according to air-condition engineer)
34. Room groups
To make air-condition parameters set simpler, room groups are implemented. In this way
groups like “rooms-nord”, “rooms-south”, “rooms-1st floor”,(...) can be made and separate
set of parameters can be given.
Groups are formed by authorised person (PUK needed), and setting of parameters is
controlled by PIN.
Groups are formed in the way a group name is
set and a room list is formed.
During programing of parameters software shall
offer all defined groups.
By selecting “Send” option, software
sends new parameters to all rooms in
the group.
All rooms can be preprogrammed by
a single step!
35. Cards: categories and validity time
Four card categories:
Guest cards
Visitor cards (persons using hotel facilities but not rooms)
One-time cards (deleted after first use)
Personnel cards dividen onto: room-maid, service, management, reception....
Validity time
Validity time has to be set for each card. After validity time expiry system automatically
deletes the card and card is unusable (in this way card abuse is prevented after check-
out, or possible fake card loss).
Cards are phisically identical, categorisation is based on software level
All data connected to card (code, category, user) are password protected
There can be 3 guest cards per room and 2 general purpose cards (guest, service...)
36. Working with cards – basic steps
Registration (issuing) of a card – card code is read and sent to controller; code, owner
and access control sector entry is formed in database
Changing of data – all changes including room change, prolongation of accomodation
don’t need presence of a card. The system works automatically with code from database.
In this way, a guest can be transferred from one room to another in few simple steps, or
his/hers accomodation can be prolonged without necessity of his presence.
Deleting of a card – is accomplished in a single step without a presence of a card.
Software sends to all controllers the information that a certain card is no longer valid.
Deletion can be done manually, automatically (due to validity time expiry) or directed from
reception managment system.
37. Key-card options
(definition of access control controlers (main entry, garage...)
Whilst card issue receptionist shall be offered a list
named “Key-card options” in which access control
sectors can be enabled/disabled for the current card.
List is created by authorised personnel, and receptionist
can setup default state offered during card issue
process.
In given example a list of access control controlers is
defined. When issuing a new card the software is going
to enable access entry into garage and main entrance
by default.
38. Method of card reading
When software sends card registration request, card programmer display shows
adequate room number and it’s last digit shows dashes representing position of a issued
card. When issuing personell cards, card programmer display shows only blinking
dashes: - - - -
Receptionist has to lay the card onto card programmer,
wait until programmer beeps and remove the card.
If reading/issuing is successful display will show still dashes: - - - -
If there is an error while reading, display will show: err
Description of an error is always written in a log-file.
39. Method for personnel card registration
Access to personnel card list is protected by PUK.
Given table shows all relevant data for issued personnel cards.
Currently selected position (possible to edit) is marked with red arrow in first
column.
With mouse right-click a menu is opened that allowes deletion/ changing of
data for currently selected card or issuing a new card if the field is empty.
40. Selecting the position from card list
and make/change data of a card menu,
a window pops up enabling to edit card
associated data.
Along with registration of a card it is
possible to enter/edit PIN.
Card is registered/deleted by clicking
the “Confirm” button
Registration of a card in three steps!
1. Choose position
2. Enter data
3. Press “Confirm” button
Method of issue is similar for registration of a visitor’s card (PIN isn’t defined)
41. Method for guest card registration
Issuing and deleting of cards is simple. It can be done after
only 10 minutes of training!
• Right mouse click on desired room
• Enter data and choose access control sectors
• Press “Confirm” button
• Right mouse click on desired room
• Press “Cancel(Delete)” button

If monitoring system is connected to reception management system (PMS) card issuing is done
automaticaly (commands are sent by PMS over LAN)
42. Identification of a card
Due to safety cards shouldn’t have any special markings that could associate with a
person or a room.
Nevertheless, if we still wish to enable overview of data (in case of card found) a card
identification module is implemented.
Card is layed on the card programmer
(reader) and a “Read card” button is
pressed.
As a result, all card data is shown.
If the card isn’t found in database,
software automatically informs all
controllers that present card is no longer
valid.
43. Alarms, warnings, informations

47. Message redistribution
Messages and reports can be automatically redistribuited as:
• sms messages
• pager
• e-mail
• web reports
Redistribution levels:
• System sends message directly to choosen person
For example, “call roommaker” can be directly sent to roommaker who
responsible for room from where the signal is sent.
• Conditional message
For example, if some alarm is not acknowledget for some time, it can be
redistribuited to some superior person.
• Program can work in client mode, so it is possible to make passive monitoring
from any LAN point.

49. Connection of smart room system to PMS makes possible:
• Faster and easier guest check-in. Receptionist enter data in front office, and monitoring system
receives commands for check in, chieck out and data change directly from front office.
• Energy management. PMS sends information about rooms reservation scheme, so monitoring
system can handle additional level of energy savings.
• Phones control. Monitoring system sends to PMS information when guest is in the room, so PMS
can switch on phone line, and if guest is not in the room phone line can be used only for internal
connections (inside hotel, hotel’s staff can not make phone calls from rooms).
• Prepare keycards in advance. It is possible to prepare keycards in advance (if large group of
guests is expected).
• Makes possible to identify guest by keycard. POS points are equiped with special readers and
guest can handle payment just with his keycard.
