This document discusses three future trends for aquaculture nutrition: fighting disease, meeting customer expectations, and being innovative. It outlines challenges like disease outbreaks and antibiotic resistance. It presents solutions like acidifiers and phytogenics to control pathogens without antibiotics. It also discusses customer demands for quality products produced through sustainable and humane practices. The document promotes Dr. Eckel products like CaPlus ME acidifier and AntaOx phytogenic to improve animal health and performance naturally.

• Antimicrobial effect
• Nutritional effects (Ca minerals/energy)
• Reduction of buffering capacity
Stomach
• Reduction of the pH (formic, lactic, citric acid)
• Activation of proteolytic enzymes (better protein digestion)
Small
Intestine
• Antimicrobial effect (e.g. gram negative bacteria with lactic acid, and local pH reduction)
• Stimulation of pancreas secretion (pH effect feedback from the stomach); better Ca and P
digestion
Large
Intestine
• Antimicrobial effects due to microencapsulated essential oils and strong organic acids
• Stimulation of non specific immunity (lactic acid)

Chanthaburi province, Eastern Thailand
• Material & Methods
- Pacific white shrimp post-larvae 12 (PL12)
- Grow-out in commercial shrimp farm (intensive production)
- Ponds with an area of 5 rais each (1 rai = 0.16 ha)
- 3 replicates
- Shrimp stocked at densitiy of 120,000 PL12/rai (75 PL12/m2)
- Dosage: 800 ppm Anta®Ox
• Parameters measured
- Survival rate, FCR, total production
- Bacterial and histological study

25. Challenge or no challenge? Natural
challenge!
The chosen shrimp farm in Chanthaburi province,
Eastern Thailand, is known to have huge EMS
problems since 2011.
• In Thailand, EMS first arrived in the eastern
provinces of Chanthaburi and Rayong, where it
has caused year-on-year decreases in shrimp
production as high as 40% by some accounts.
• Even worse than the EMS itself is the panic it
has engendered among local farmers. 80% of
the shrimp farmers in eastern Thailand have
chosen to leave their ponds dry, rather than risk
their capital by stocking shrimp that may or may
not survive to maturity.

33. Take Home Messages
• Aquaculture Feed Formulations are changing
• Ban of AGP and replacement with antimicrobials
• Inclusion of new phytogenics Feed Additives
• Use of feed additives should go along with best pond management practice
• Customers Expecations are important for further business
• Animal welfare must not be forgotten
