9. Aurobindo’s Views on Evolution
• His thoughts was much more related with the
Indian philosophy, Samkhya which talks about
evolution. The proximity of Prakriti, the
primordial substance, to Purusha (pure
consciousness) , disturbs the equilibrium of
the gunas (sattva, rajas, and tamas) which
results in evolution. (2)
10. Social Philosophy
Sri Aurobindo advocated karmayoga. The
Bhagavadgita advocates the philosophy of
action. As humans we cannot remain idle for all
the births human birth is more precious. To act
is to act in accordance with dharma. Therefore
one should not shirk one’s responsibilities as a
citizen of the society. (2)
11. Integral (YOGA) Education
“The true basis of education is the study of the human mind --
infant, adolescent and adult.”
True education, according to Sri Aurobindo, is not only spiritual
but also rational, vital and physical.
Education to be complete must have four principal :
“ This education is complete, complimentary to each other and
continued till the end of life”.
12. Effect of education on levels:
• Physical level:
The physical being is the anna-maya the self
made of body.
It refers body's consciousness.
• Vital level:
It refers to the life force as to the various
passions, desires, feelings, emotions, affects,
compulsions, and likes and dislikes that strongly
determine human motivation and action
through desire and enthusiasm.
13. • Mental level:
The mental being is the mano-maya the self made of mind
(manas).
• Psychic level (Intellectual level):
The Psychic Being the Personal Evolving Soul, the principle
of Divine spirit in every individual.
Spiritual levels:
“Presides over the different births one after the other but is
itself unborn" .
Spirit is also designated the Jiva or Jivatman.(3)
14. Aim of education according to integral
education
Perfection of soul
Realization on of inner self
Physical development
The development of senses
Development of morality
Development of consciousness
Cultivation of values (4)
18. Quotations
“The main of (my) yoga is an inner self-
development by which each one who follows
it can in time discover the one self in all &
evolve a higher consciousness than the
mental, spiritual and supernatural
consciousness which will transform the
divinize human nature.”
“ Nothing is impossible for one who is attentive”
(1)
19. Conclusion
The goal of Sri Aurobindo was not merely the
liberation of the individual from the chain that
fetters him and realization of the self, but to work
out the will of the Divine in the world, to effect a
spiritual transformation and to bring down the
divine nature and a divine life into the mental,
vital and physical nature and life of humanity.
“Hidden nature is secret God.” (1)
