The anchorman
1. A collective of short 20 minute
episode adaptations of the
movie franchise ‘Anchorman’,
taking place between
Anchorman and Anchorman 2
2.
My adaptation of the Anchorman will be a comedy.
The sub-genre will be drama just like it was in the
films.
Genre and Narrative
3.
As the adaptation will be a collective of 20 minute
episodes that follow Ron Burgundy throughout his
hilarious life, as he pranks those around the office
and faces off against other news crews in news crew
battles. There will be many sub narratives with
beginnings , middles and ends within the 20 minutes
limit of each episode (with some narratives spanning
over two episodes). However there will be an overall
narrative leading the story from the end of the first
film to the start of the second.
Narrative
4. The cost of production will be higher than an average TV cartoon. As the cast is filled
with stars, this would make it very expensive to hire so many stars to film many
episodes.
Certification and censorship will be needed in filming of this TV show, as just like in
the Anchorman films there will be inappropriate scenes. However bad language will
not be censored, as it will showed after watershed.
The adaptation allows the Anchorman story to progress in between films. This
allows the progression of existing characters and their relationships, and the
introduction of new characters into the storyline. This is good for the Anchorman
universe, as it allows more elaborate interesting films due to the initial introduction
to the story in the film being done through TV episodes.
It will cheaper than creating a separate live action film to fill in the spaces in the story
as scenery, extras, props and expensive camera equipment isn't needed to make a
cartoon.
Constraints and
opportunities
5.
The main audience for my adaptation will be
Anchorman fans. As they're the most likely to be
viewing it, as they are already interested in the
Anchorman franchise.
The secondary audience will be comedy fans, as the
main major genre will be comedy (as it was in the
films) so I intend to stick to the genre of comedy
through the adaptation.
Target audience
6.
As my adaptation will be a cartoon and a comedy the use of
cinematography isn't as important, due to the content of the
narrative being the main focus rather than the visual aesthetic.
(for example in other American comedy cartoons such as the
Simpsons, American Dad and Family Guy. Where the POV
tends to be looking in onto a scene as if it were a studio
performance instead of having many different types of shot).
The adaptation will be Illustrated similarly to Family Guy and
American Dad. This is because it has become more normal for
comedy cartoons to take this form. By using this type of style,
the genre of the cartoon will be easily recognisable to fans of
comedy cartoons.
