Accounting Information System

An accounting information system (AIS) is a system of
collecting, storing and processing financial and accounting data
that are used by decision makers.

Accounting information systems are designed to support all
accounting functions and activities including auditing, financial
accounting & reporting, managerial/ management accounting
and tax.
Parts of an AIS
An AIS typically has six basic parts:
• People who use the system, including accountants, managers,
and business analysts.
• Procedure are the ways that data are collected, stored,
retrieved, and processed.
• Data including all the information that goes into an AIS .
• Software consists of computer programs used for processing
data.
• Information technology infrastructure includes all the hardware
used to operate the AIS.
• Internal controls are the security measures used to protect data.
What is an AIS?

An accounting information system is the
collection storage and processing of financial
and accounting data.

information that can be used by management to co-ordinate those
activities .

AIS include memos ,correspondence manuals,
maintaining ,replacing ,tax information

These documents might have a tangential relationship to the
company's finances but excluding the footnotes.

They are not really part of the company's financial
recode keeping.
AIS have some job titles in this field of
work

Some positions in this field are focused on the financial site like
financial manager, other may be computer position like software
developer that create AIS software.
Conclusion
• The six components of an AIS all work together to help
key employees collect, store, manage, process, retrieve,
and report their financial data. Having a well-developed
and maintained accounting information system that is
efficient and accurate is an indispensable component of
a successful business.
