Essay on Social Networking in Business
Mike Swanstrom 3/29/2010 Social Networking In Business Introduction Social networking in business is the study of individuals interacting socially
for business purposes. This can be done either electronically, or not electronically. Usually when social networking occurs electronically, it is achieved
through network–based interfaces. Social networking is primarily focused around one thing: connections. One can utilize every social network that
exists (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), but unless there is some type of value being provided on that network, (some reason that others would want to connect
with that person), they stand no chance of successfully using social networking to make any progress from a business standpoint. Facebook...show more

Twitter – does it help Social Networking? Twitter is another popular social networking site, and is similar to Facebook in many ways, but also
different in many ways. Twitter is beneficial to the social networking world, because it allows users to quickly and easily update those that care
about their business on the internal goings on one's company. Twitter also allows users to quickly and easily post updates about their 'status', and
what they're currently doing. Twitter is very popular among many celebrities and athletes, and is arguably more popular in that retrospect than
Facebook. There are many reasons for this, and many are for subjective reasons. However, one reason is that Twitter is a more private social
networking site than Facebook. The sole purpose of Twitter is to provide one's status, and list only very broad information about the user. Facebook,
on the other hand, usually contains more personal information in one's profile. This private aspect is one reason that many celebrities and athletes
prefer it over Facebook. Twitter utilizes the popular catchphrase "Tweet it." Just completed a new product line? Tweet it. Just hired a new employee?
Tweet it. Business is moving to a remote location? Tweet it. The 'tweet it' catchphrase was critical to the site's success in the business world, as the
lingo prompted users to observe Tweeter, and try it out. However, Twitter is still

Social Networking: Positive or Negative?
Social Networking: Positive or Negative? Social networking has many opinions pointing toward it. Some may say that it is a positive influence,
while others think negatively. There are many directions to look at it. From my perspective, I believe social networks have only grown to cause
many issues. When reading something rather than hearing it said aloud, problems arise because you can 't tell the tone of something said. Also,
other issues deal with the fact that people can find out every detail of your daily life. There is very little privacy online, and you never known what
you could be dealing with. It can become addictive, and a waste of time, causing issues with peoples work ethic. These are only a few of the numerous
issues;...show more content...
Procon.org states that 13 million people that use Facebook had no idea about the privacy policy, and never used it. 28% of them shared that nearly all
of their posts are public. "Feds Snoop on Social–network Accounts Without Warrants," states that the 2009 IRS teaches their agents manually how to
look through Facebook pages for information that could possibly "assist in resolving a taxpayer case." Therefore, nothing you do on social
networking sites is private. Not only does it give the government easier access to watch your every move, but it gives every other person in the
universe access to watch you as well. There are many complaints about how the numbers of stolen children, and deaths has gone up. At the same
time, the rates of social networks has been increasing as well. I truly believe that if the number of networks would go down, then so would the death
rate. Social networking does have some positive benefits, such as spreading news world wide in an easier manner, and communicating business facts
worldwide. However, these networks cause many more negative issues than positive. Such as useless arguments arising because you cannot hear
other peoples tone when they speak to you. Also, the fact that being online all the time causes peoples work ethic to decrease, and make Americans
even more lazy. Finally, it causes the biggest issue of all which is an invasion of privacy. It makes it a lot easier

certain types of information on social networking services. Business data – Posting sensitive information intended only for internal company use on a
social networking service can have serious consequences. Disclosing information about customers, intellectual property, human resource issues,
mergers and acquisitions, or other company activities could result in liability or bad publicity, or could reveal information that is useful to competitors.
Professional reputation – Inappropriate photos or content on a social networking service may threaten a user's educational and career prospects.
Colleges and universities may 2 conduct online searches about potential students during the application process. Many companies also perform online
searches of job candidates during the interview process. Information that suggests that a person might be unreliable, untrustworthy, or unprofessional
could threaten the candidate's application. There have also been many instances of people losing their jobs for content posted to these services.

Argumentative Essay On Social Networking
Social networking has more benefits than you think. Some don't like social networking while others are all for it. There are many people who have
debated the benefits and detriments to society, students, and family. Example of social networking would be Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and
Youtube. Although social networking has some issues, many are easily taken care of, making it a benefit and improvement to society. The first
argument those against social networking mention is cyberbullying. "Cyber Bullying is deliberately using digital media to communicate false,
embarrassing, or hostile information about another person." (O'Keefe). Cyber Bullying can be a problem especially with insecure people who get it
too young, but the majority of people are fine with a little bit of crud and joking. The article, Bullycide: A brief history of the Phoebe Prince
phenomenon is all about the kids who got cyber bullied. They have a collection of real stories of people getting cyberbullied. There are many
examples of people getting bullied and committing suicide. This article said, "By many accounts, it's getting worse, as social networking and
text–messaging have expanded the bullies toolkit: Studies show that 33 to 42 percent of kids have been attacked or humiliated online." ("Bullycide").
Although bullying has been a problem in the past, sites now let the user to either accept or decline friend requests, not allow them to send you stuff, or
block them. This can stop cyber bullying in

Essay about Effects of Social Networking Sites
Effects of Social Networking Sites The implementation of social networking sites has changed how the average person communicates with others.
Studies show that the average person spends at least nine hours a week surfing and posting on social network sites (http:/
/socialnetworking.procon.org/). In fact, using social networking sites has not only improved our communication skills, but has had a negative impact
as well. One of the many pros and cons to communicating on a networking site is the ability to "stay connected." When a student graduates, a loved
one moves, or a career changes, everyone wants to keep up with people they have grown to care for. Being on a social networking site, you can "friend
request" people you know to keep up...show more content...
Artists and topics that attract a younger population give ample opportunity for predators to have access to the viewers. There is no way to know that
the 15 year old girl you've become "besties" with is really a young girl, or if it's really a pedophile looking for new prey. "In Feb. 2009, MySpace
identified 90,000 registered sex offenders with profiles on the site, while Facebook declined to reveal how many were present on its site" (http:/
/socialnetworking.procon.org/). Another example of how social networks affect society both positively and negatively is the ability to obtain
information. Many networking sites created today are made for specific genres of people. Sites like LinkedIn.com and CafeMom.com have been
created to help people with life issues such as finding new jobs or getting tips on breastfed babies. If a person is shy and has trouble meeting that
"special someone," they can go to a networking site such as MeetUp.com. Sadly, not everything that is posted on these sites can be verified. Most sites,
like the match–making sites, have no way to verify that the person posting on their site is them. An older, obese person can post a picture of a
younger, thinner person to try and get a match. The site itself does not know that the picture posted is actually the person posting it. So, when the
"date" shows up expecting person A, they are angry or upset that they meet person B, the real person, and bullying, fighting, or

Social networking sites are great for society, promoting increased communication and connection between hundreds of millions of people throughout
the world. While some people do argue that the dangers of online networking far outweigh the benefits, it is clear that this is not the case; rather it is
the other way around. Online social networking can be broadly defined as any website or other type of online communication that allows people to
interact with each other. Blogging, or keeping an online journal, first became popular in the late 1990's. As blogging began to appeal to more and
more people, pure social networking sites appeared. SixDegrees.com (1997–2001) was the first website that allowed users to create personal profiles

Users may reconnect with old friends, and get to know people they have become acquainted with, but do not necessarily talk to often. Social
networking sites also offer comfortability. Many people prefer talking to others online, as it helps them to overcome social anxiety. They do not have
to deal with the stress of what others think of them (appearance, attitude, and facial expressions) not nearly like they would if they were talking
face–to–face. Users can decide when they want to talk, and take more time considering what they will say. In addition they may choose to delete
posts, where if they had said something in person they would have no way to take back a word. Creative expression can be taken to a whole new
level online. Social networking sites provide free messaging, blogging, photo and video storage, games, and event invitations to their users. Unique
displays of art, music, and writing can be found everywhere on these sites – no two profiles are exactly the same. They are a way to express yourself,
and show the world how you really feel about life. Social media additionally helps kids from low–income families become more familiar with
computers and technology. One study found that almost three quarters of these poorer children have profiles on Facebook or Myspace. Through the
usage of social networking sites, they have learned how to edit and upload photos and videos, and also become

We chose "The Social Network" because it deals with a lot of group dynamics. These dynamics, such as social cohesion and emotional response,
play an important role in how the movie affects its audience. The court room scenes, in which Mark is defending himself against the barrage of
questions from judges hired by his friends to sue him, are very emotional and dig right into the heart of not only the viewers, but the actors as well.
The betrayal, mistrust and constant bantering between the persons involved has a large effect on the emotional turmoil of an individual. How is the
topic relevant to individuals and organizations in general? This topic relates directly to many individuals and organizations that are struggling with a
balance of power and trust. Thoughout the creation of facebook, there was a lot of mistrust. When Mark was offered a position by the twin brothers,
his lack of response gained their mistrust. When Eduardo came back from New York to discover Facebook had taken a different twist, he felt
neglected. All these emotions are typical in a daily work atmosphere. Everyone wants to feel included and important. Employees want a sense of
belonging and an emotional connection with their co–workers. The Social Network shows its audience how people in an organized association act
when the boundaries of trust and comfort are tested. Literary Analysis Below are 5 articles that support

Some say people who use social networking sites are prone to social isolation. Despite opposition, I am convinced that social networking helps people
who are shy and socially isolated to connect with other people. This concludes that social networking can help people who have low self esteem other
than lowering their self–esteem any more.Although many argue that social networking can exacerbate feelings of disconnect and put children at higher
risk for depression, low self–esteem and eating disorders,I believe otherwise. According to my research, I have found that more than 25% of teens
report that social makes them feel less shy, 28% feel more outgoing, 20% report feeling more confident,in which 53% of teens were identified as being
shy (5 Boroughs). This means that social networking brings out a better person in most, and makes them feel better about themselves other than feeling
bad inside. In conclusion, social networking has decisively proven to be good for our society. It is essential to recognize that social networking can
benefit our society tremendously by helping students do better in school, spreading information/news, and helping those that are socially isolated to get
out of their shell and connect with other people. The facts

However, there are also some negative aspects of social networking. Some people tend to get cyber bullied on the internet. A child or teen usually
gets tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed, or targeted by another child or teen using the internet or even on mobile phones.
Some people commit suicide because of the mean things that people say to them. For this to not happen the best thing to do is delete the account and
stay offline for a while until the stalkers have gotten tired of the whole thing. However, you should report it to the police before doing this. It can also
lead into depression. Some people tend to make fun of others such as calling them ugly or fat. This may tend to make that person emotional and
depressed and may lower their self–esteem. Although their self–esteem is already low this can lead them to committing suicide. Teens like their own
privacy no matter what it is they're doing. Sometimes they just need to be left alone. That's another thing about cyber bullying. Some strangers invade
on others privacy. Some strangers may want to help teens with the problems they are facing, but if you can't help them at least do not harm them. There
are many ways for people to communicate such as, chat, messaging, email, video, voice, file

as Friendster. Friendster is a "social networking tool that was created to "help you stay connected with everything that matters to you most:

MySpace, and the various other sites have managed to offer the same basic features as Friendster but in a different package that many people have
come to love. A social networking site (SNS) is defined as "a web based service allowing individuals to 1) construct a public or semi public profile
with a bounded system, 2) articulate a list of other users with whom they share a connection, and 3) view and transverse their list of connections and
those made by others within the system (Boyd & Ellison, 2007)." However, to many people social networking sites are seen as the next best thing to

Facebook : A Social Network Essay
Facebook is one of the most common social networks in the world right now. Nowadays, users of Facebook can write diaries on their Facebook
pages rather than on their blogs; they can chat on Messenger, an attached function that Facebook has, rather than on traditional texting; they can
share photos, music and even links from other websites. Facebook's success is reflected not only through the large number of users but also
through its ubiquity. Most of the time, when people open a new website, for example, a shopping website or a game website, they can always log
in with their Facebook accounts. Facebook is everywhere. The number of partnerships that Facebook has is numerous. However, success brings
controversy. The dispute of Facebook's origins attracted the public eye after the movie "The Social Network" released. The debate made Facebook
become the hottest topic among people again. Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, also gained a lot of attention. Many people started to

who created Facebook. Mark Zuckerberg proved his talent for innovation even before he ever attended college. He started "using computers and

The Impact of Social Networking Sites on Teenagers
Since the new millennium occurred, social networking sites have been popping up everywhere, from Friendster, to MySpace, to Facebook. Setting
apart the old way of communicating, by telephone, letters, and in person is having a negative impact on us. People young and old have found
themselves addicted to well, basically themselves. People post pictures of themselves, update their status constantly and write blogs hoping someone

But because we purposely want that, it is making us more concerned with ourselves. Most of these people teenagers talk to in the first place are people
they see almost every day at school, work, and etc. Even if they conversed with someone during the day, they still continue to talk to them on the
internet. Being able to keep in contact with friends and family is very important. Right now in our time people use the internet all of the time to talk
to friends and family "The current generation is never unconnected. They're never losing touch with their friends" (Thompson). With the fast pace
life style teenagers and young adults face, the internet is an ideal way to keep up to date with all the things happening around you. Especially for
college students does this come in handy, being able to contact someone with the click of a button, while also writing a paper or doing homework.

Pros And Cons Of Social Networking Essay
Tania Shaha Ms. Soto–Gonzales English 12, Period 2 June 2 2017 The other side of Social Networking Most people, at least once in their lifetime
have used or were introduced to social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat. Why do people use social networking
sites? It might be because they want to make connections with other people, use it for work or long–forgotten friendships. There is two sides of the
same coin. Social networking has bold advantages and disadvantages, however the negatives of using it outnumbers the positive, which makes it a
bad thing. One of the reasons people use social media is because it spreads information faster than any other media. The pro side might say that
during a tragedy or natural disasters family and friends know about whether their family members or friends are safe through social networks,
since it is faster. "59% of Twitter users and 31% of Facebook users polled follower breaking news on this sites" (procon.org). However, the
downside of it is that social media leads to the spread of false and unreliable information. Also, " 64% of people who use Twitter for news say that
they have encountered something they "later discovered wasn't true,"" (Gaille). Even if the false information is corrected, the percentage of people
who see our share it is low. It is hard to change peoples' opinions. Another reason people use social networks is to stay connected with others. A

are choosing to become part of the popular Facebook culture for various reasons, such as its renowned opportunities for keeping in touch with current

that may limit our regularity of communication with people, upholding the geographic differences, social class, busy lifestyles and economic factors

Facebook as a form of social capital may be a beneficial contributor, offering societies to learn more about each other in a less intrusive way as the

Essay On Social Networking In Business

  • 1. Essay on Social Networking in Business Mike Swanstrom 3/29/2010 Social Networking In Business Introduction Social networking in business is the study of individuals interacting socially for business purposes. This can be done either electronically, or not electronically. Usually when social networking occurs electronically, it is achieved through network–based interfaces. Social networking is primarily focused around one thing: connections. One can utilize every social network that exists (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), but unless there is some type of value being provided on that network, (some reason that others would want to connect with that person), they stand no chance of successfully using social networking to make any progress from a business standpoint. Facebook...show more content... Twitter – does it help Social Networking? Twitter is another popular social networking site, and is similar to Facebook in many ways, but also different in many ways. Twitter is beneficial to the social networking world, because it allows users to quickly and easily update those that care about their business on the internal goings on one's company. Twitter also allows users to quickly and easily post updates about their 'status', and what they're currently doing. Twitter is very popular among many celebrities and athletes, and is arguably more popular in that retrospect than Facebook. There are many reasons for this, and many are for subjective reasons. However, one reason is that Twitter is a more private social networking site than Facebook. The sole purpose of Twitter is to provide one's status, and list only very broad information about the user. Facebook, on the other hand, usually contains more personal information in one's profile. This private aspect is one reason that many celebrities and athletes prefer it over Facebook. Twitter utilizes the popular catchphrase "Tweet it." Just completed a new product line? Tweet it. Just hired a new employee? Tweet it. Business is moving to a remote location? Tweet it. The 'tweet it' catchphrase was critical to the site's success in the business world, as the lingo prompted users to observe Tweeter, and try it out. However, Twitter is still Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Social Networking: Positive or Negative? Social Networking: Positive or Negative? Social networking has many opinions pointing toward it. Some may say that it is a positive influence, while others think negatively. There are many directions to look at it. From my perspective, I believe social networks have only grown to cause many issues. When reading something rather than hearing it said aloud, problems arise because you can 't tell the tone of something said. Also, other issues deal with the fact that people can find out every detail of your daily life. There is very little privacy online, and you never known what you could be dealing with. It can become addictive, and a waste of time, causing issues with peoples work ethic. These are only a few of the numerous issues;...show more content... Procon.org states that 13 million people that use Facebook had no idea about the privacy policy, and never used it. 28% of them shared that nearly all of their posts are public. "Feds Snoop on Social–network Accounts Without Warrants," states that the 2009 IRS teaches their agents manually how to look through Facebook pages for information that could possibly "assist in resolving a taxpayer case." Therefore, nothing you do on social networking sites is private. Not only does it give the government easier access to watch your every move, but it gives every other person in the universe access to watch you as well. There are many complaints about how the numbers of stolen children, and deaths has gone up. At the same time, the rates of social networks has been increasing as well. I truly believe that if the number of networks would go down, then so would the death rate. Social networking does have some positive benefits, such as spreading news world wide in an easier manner, and communicating business facts worldwide. However, these networks cause many more negative issues than positive. Such as useless arguments arising because you cannot hear other peoples tone when they speak to you. Also, the fact that being online all the time causes peoples work ethic to decrease, and make Americans even more lazy. Finally, it causes the biggest issue of all which is an invasion of privacy. It makes it a lot easier Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay on Safe Social Networking Socializing Securely: Using Social Networking Services Mindi McDowell and Damon Morda Social Networking Serves Many Purposes Social networking is a way for people to connect and share information with each other online. Millions of people worldwide regularly access these types of services from mobile devices, applications, and websites. According to statistics published by some of the most well–known social networking services, there are more than 500 million active users on Facebook1, 175 million registered users on Twitter2, more than 100 million users on MySpace3, and more than 80 million members on LinkedIn4. People may use social networking services for different reasons: to network with new contacts, reconnect with former friends,...show more content... This information could then be used in a variety of ways, such as tailoring advertisements, performing market research, sending spam email, or accessing your contacts. Professional and Personal Implications You may risk professional opportunities, personal relationships, and safety by posting certain types of information on social networking services. Business data – Posting sensitive information intended only for internal company use on a social networking service can have serious consequences. Disclosing information about customers, intellectual property, human resource issues, mergers and acquisitions, or other company activities could result in liability or bad publicity, or could reveal information that is useful to competitors. Professional reputation – Inappropriate photos or content on a social networking service may threaten a user's educational and career prospects. Colleges and universities may 2 conduct online searches about potential students during the application process. Many companies also perform online searches of job candidates during the interview process. Information that suggests that a person might be unreliable, untrustworthy, or unprofessional could threaten the candidate's application. There have also been many instances of people losing their jobs for content posted to these services. Although the legality of some of these terminations is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Argumentative Essay On Social Networking Social networking has more benefits than you think. Some don't like social networking while others are all for it. There are many people who have debated the benefits and detriments to society, students, and family. Example of social networking would be Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube. Although social networking has some issues, many are easily taken care of, making it a benefit and improvement to society. The first argument those against social networking mention is cyberbullying. "Cyber Bullying is deliberately using digital media to communicate false, embarrassing, or hostile information about another person." (O'Keefe). Cyber Bullying can be a problem especially with insecure people who get it too young, but the majority of people are fine with a little bit of crud and joking. The article, Bullycide: A brief history of the Phoebe Prince phenomenon is all about the kids who got cyber bullied. They have a collection of real stories of people getting cyberbullied. There are many examples of people getting bullied and committing suicide. This article said, "By many accounts, it's getting worse, as social networking and text–messaging have expanded the bullies toolkit: Studies show that 33 to 42 percent of kids have been attacked or humiliated online." ("Bullycide"). Although bullying has been a problem in the past, sites now let the user to either accept or decline friend requests, not allow them to send you stuff, or block them. This can stop cyber bullying in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Essay about Effects of Social Networking Sites Effects of Social Networking Sites The implementation of social networking sites has changed how the average person communicates with others. Studies show that the average person spends at least nine hours a week surfing and posting on social network sites (http:/ /socialnetworking.procon.org/). In fact, using social networking sites has not only improved our communication skills, but has had a negative impact as well. One of the many pros and cons to communicating on a networking site is the ability to "stay connected." When a student graduates, a loved one moves, or a career changes, everyone wants to keep up with people they have grown to care for. Being on a social networking site, you can "friend request" people you know to keep up...show more content... Artists and topics that attract a younger population give ample opportunity for predators to have access to the viewers. There is no way to know that the 15 year old girl you've become "besties" with is really a young girl, or if it's really a pedophile looking for new prey. "In Feb. 2009, MySpace identified 90,000 registered sex offenders with profiles on the site, while Facebook declined to reveal how many were present on its site" (http:/ /socialnetworking.procon.org/). Another example of how social networks affect society both positively and negatively is the ability to obtain information. Many networking sites created today are made for specific genres of people. Sites like LinkedIn.com and CafeMom.com have been created to help people with life issues such as finding new jobs or getting tips on breastfed babies. If a person is shy and has trouble meeting that "special someone," they can go to a networking site such as MeetUp.com. Sadly, not everything that is posted on these sites can be verified. Most sites, like the match–making sites, have no way to verify that the person posting on their site is them. An older, obese person can post a picture of a younger, thinner person to try and get a match. The site itself does not know that the picture posted is actually the person posting it. So, when the "date" shows up expecting person A, they are angry or upset that they meet person B, the real person, and bullying, fighting, or Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Social networking sites are great for society, promoting increased communication and connection between hundreds of millions of people throughout the world. While some people do argue that the dangers of online networking far outweigh the benefits, it is clear that this is not the case; rather it is the other way around. Online social networking can be broadly defined as any website or other type of online communication that allows people to interact with each other. Blogging, or keeping an online journal, first became popular in the late 1990's. As blogging began to appeal to more and more people, pure social networking sites appeared. SixDegrees.com (1997–2001) was the first website that allowed users to create personal profiles ...show more content... Users may reconnect with old friends, and get to know people they have become acquainted with, but do not necessarily talk to often. Social networking sites also offer comfortability. Many people prefer talking to others online, as it helps them to overcome social anxiety. They do not have to deal with the stress of what others think of them (appearance, attitude, and facial expressions) not nearly like they would if they were talking face–to–face. Users can decide when they want to talk, and take more time considering what they will say. In addition they may choose to delete posts, where if they had said something in person they would have no way to take back a word. Creative expression can be taken to a whole new level online. Social networking sites provide free messaging, blogging, photo and video storage, games, and event invitations to their users. Unique displays of art, music, and writing can be found everywhere on these sites – no two profiles are exactly the same. They are a way to express yourself, and show the world how you really feel about life. Social media additionally helps kids from low–income families become more familiar with computers and technology. One study found that almost three quarters of these poorer children have profiles on Facebook or Myspace. Through the usage of social networking sites, they have learned how to edit and upload photos and videos, and also become Get more content on HelpWriting.net

These dynamics, such as social cohesion and emotional response, play an important role in how the movie affects its audience. The court room scenes, in which Mark is defending himself against the barrage of questions from judges hired by his friends to sue him, are very emotional and dig right into the heart of not only the viewers, but the actors as well. The betrayal, mistrust and constant bantering between the persons involved has a large effect on the emotional turmoil of an individual. How is the topic relevant to individuals and organizations in general? This topic relates directly to many individuals and organizations that are struggling with a balance of power and trust. Thoughout the creation of facebook, there was a lot of mistrust. When Mark was offered a position by the twin brothers, his lack of response gained their mistrust. When Eduardo came back from New York to discover Facebook had taken a different twist, he felt neglected. All these emotions are typical in a daily work atmosphere. Everyone wants to feel included and important. Employees want a sense of belonging and an emotional connection with their co–workers. The Social Network shows its audience how people in an organized association act when the boundaries of trust and comfort are tested. On social media like these, users are able to develop biographical profiles as well as communicating, researching, and also sharing photos, links, videos, music, and more. Advocates of social networking sites conclude that online communities promote increased interaction with friends and family and also offer teachers, librarians, and students beneficial access to educational support and materials, facilitate social and political change, and distributing useful information promptly. Some say people who use social networking sites are prone to social isolation. Despite opposition, I am convinced that social networking helps people who are shy and socially isolated to connect with other people. This concludes that social networking can help people who have low self esteem other than lowering their self–esteem any more.Although many argue that social networking can exacerbate feelings of disconnect and put children at higher risk for depression, low self–esteem and eating disorders,I believe otherwise. According to my research, I have found that more than 25% of teens report that social makes them feel less shy, 28% feel more outgoing, 20% report feeling more confident,in which 53% of teens were identified as being shy (5 Boroughs). This means that social networking brings out a better person in most, and makes them feel better about themselves other than feeling bad inside. In conclusion, social networking has decisively proven to be good for our society. It is essential to recognize that social networking can benefit our society tremendously by helping students do better in school, spreading information/news, and helping those that are socially isolated to get out of their shell and connect with other people. Outline For Research Paper Emmanuel Colon Mrs. Albuquerque English IIII 22 March 2011 Social Networking Social networking has been around for years whether it's facebook, twitter, youtube, myspace, etc. It has been studied since the beginning of the 20th century. A social network service is a web site that allows people to create a public profile for everyone to see. There are both positive and negative effects of social networking. Facebook is the most used and populated website on the web. Facebook was launched seven years ago and has already attracted over a half a billion people around the world and it still continues to grow. Three years ago facebook wasn't as a popular as it is now with only 8 % of the U.S. population signed on to facebook. Today, more than...show more content... However, there are also some negative aspects of social networking. Some people tend to get cyber bullied on the internet. A child or teen usually gets tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed, or targeted by another child or teen using the internet or even on mobile phones. Some people commit suicide because of the mean things that people say to them. For this to not happen the best thing to do is delete the account and stay offline for a while until the stalkers have gotten tired of the whole thing. However, you should report it to the police before doing this. It can also lead into depression. Some people tend to make fun of others such as calling them ugly or fat. This may tend to make that person emotional and depressed and may lower their self–esteem. Although their self–esteem is already low this can lead them to committing suicide. Teens like their own privacy no matter what it is they're doing. Sometimes they just need to be left alone. That's another thing about cyber bullying. Some strangers invade on others privacy. Some strangers may want to help teens with the problems they are facing, but if you can't help them at least do not harm them. • 10. Benefits of Social Networking Sites Essay Throughout life, men, women, and youth meet people. These people will either leave a negative or positive effect on us and some will only be in our lives for a short period of time. However, once we start to lose contact with them questions arise and we begin to wonder: What does he/she look like now? ; Where has he/she been? ; How has he/she been? ; Why did we stop talking to one another? ; or what would our relationship be like if I had kept in contact with him/her? Well there is no need to wonder anymore. Whereas Prodigy and CompuServe used various different sites to gain access to all of the different features, Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter have combined them all into one. In 2002, the "idea" layout of what a social networking site should resemble was introduced. It came to be known as Friendster. Friendster is a "social networking tool that was created to "help you stay connected with everything that matters to you most: friends, family, and fun! (Friendster.com)" When logging into Friendster you see seven tabs. They are as follows: 1) home, 2) profile, 3) friends, 4) photos, 5) gifts, 6) classifieds, and 7) fun. Although this website laid the foundation for today's social networking sites, it came out before the market was able to develop and did not receive a lot of attention. With a whopping 450 million users of social networking sites in 2010, Facebook, MySpace, and the various other sites have managed to offer the same basic features as Friendster but in a different package that many people have come to love. A social networking site (SNS) is defined as "a web based service allowing individuals to 1) construct a public or semi public profile with a bounded system, 2) articulate a list of other users with whom they share a connection, and 3) view and transverse their list of connections and those made by others within the system (Boyd & Ellison, 2007)." The Impact of Online Social Networks Essay Twitter, Skype, Facebook these are just a few of the online social networks we utilize day to day, which has made connecting to others easier than before. A social network is a structure made up of individuals or organizations that are tied by one or more specific types of relationships such as friendships. Although traditionally operated with person to person contact, it is now more popular online through social media networks such as Facebook and Skype. Online Social Networks has positively affected the social life of people in many ways and will only continue to do so. Facebook, Myspace and other such websites allow persons to express themselves and sometimes bring about confidence in those shy, low self–esteem individuals; it gives them a sense of belonging and worth as they are being exposed to more tools to develop their social skills. 'The truth about profiting from Social Networking' by Rutledge gives ways in which social networking websites may help to build your life, as many of these websites are used to develop relationships and has changed dramatically the way people now network. Many persons have become dependable on these networks as it is now through these websites that the majority of young people keep "up–to–date" with the latest happenings and trends in their society.
