1. Crime Patrol
Purpose and Approach of Work
Crime Patrol is an Android app that alerts the user before entering an unsafe area of city. It runs on both
mobile phone and smartwatch. Upon getting notified, his location is sent to his family members so that
they can constantly track him. It also keeps records of types and number of crimes that were committed
previously in any area of city. Crime data is obtained through local police website using Google Custom
Search API. Using GeoJSON API, JSON data obtained is converted into coordinates and displayed on
map using Google Maps API. Upon entering the area, location tracking of user is done by family
members through Parse.com cloud platform.
Innovation and Relevance
While moving to a new city, one may not be aware of dangerous neighborhoods there. Thus, it becomes
imperative that user does not accidently wander into an unsafe area, and even if he does have to, he
remain fully alert. Children can be made to wear Android smartwatch running Crime Patrol so that they
stay away from dangerous areas while playing.
Results and Conclusions
Crime Patrol is an Android app which can be used by adults and children alike and constantly monitors
their location and immediately alerts him if they accidently enter into an unsafe neighborhood. Future
enhancements include integrating voice recognition so that in case of emergency while being inside a
dangerous area, whenever user shouts “Police”, 911 is dialed automatically, thus saving time required to
actually dial the number.
