 Despite the government program for
diversification, coffee remains Ethiopia's most
important commodity. About one forth of the
population is engaged in its production.
Livestock population constitutes 34.5 million
cattle, 23 million sheep, 17 million goats 56 million
poultry and smaller number of horses, mules,
donkeys and camels.
In Ethiopia, many mineral deposits exists some of
them are: iron, copper, zinc, gold, platinum,
petroleum, natural gas, potashetc.

 Ecological crisis attributed to rapid deforestation, low
rainfall and land degradation resulting in the process
of desertification
 Natural forest cover was estimated to be reduced to
2.46% due to rapid deforestation.

billion tones of top soil degraded per year

 Low lands that cover 55-60 % of the total land area,
affected by drought, shortage of grazing lands and
desertification.

affecting the livelihoods of the inhabiting communities
 Undermining indigenous knowledge and sources of
knowledge Due to the impact of globalization.
 Insufficient protection to cultural heritage, cultural site
