Data Centre Principle:
The Avenches facility is designed to obtain high efficiency while being
concurrently maintainable. Block redundancy in-principle design implemented.
The Data Centre’s design development has focused on significant operational
power reductions and achieves low PUE values, making the Avenches site one of
Europe’s most innovative and complete free-air only cooled Data Centers.
Applying Yahoo!’s world wide Data Centre expertise to implement and achieve
very low OPEX values.
This facility has ample office accommodations, facility storage, parking spaces (36
outside the security fence), a tape library room, 2 POE’s and secure bunker. The
roof line profile shown overleaf supports Data Hall exhaust dampers.
A mechanical loading dock in is also provided road side adjacent to a goods in
store.
Green Energy:
Switzerland’s renewable and sustainable energy is 95% of country production.
Office heating and electrical plant ‘frost guard’ provision are serviced via
Avenches district heating system (CHP).
Data Centre cooling uses captured rainwater to provide evaporative cooling
during the regions highest summer temperatures.
Security:
Site security is accommodated via perimeter security fencing, mounted CCTV
cameras , access control system. Site infrastructure includes a Power Monitoring
System and a Building Management System.
Fire protection and suppression via VESDA and pre-action sprinkler systems.
Location:
Avenches is 25km from Bern, 110km from Geneva and 125km from Zurich with
known Fibre routes. It is well connected by trunks roads and Avenches railway
station is only a few minutes walk away.
