1. IMMIGRANT CHILDREN IN AUSTRALIA
Not all the immigrant children in Australia have the opportunity to study in their own
mother tongue.Therefore many children, spent months or years in school not being able
to understand the lessons because of their lack of english language. Immigrant children
are failing in Australian education system because they don’t have the opportunity to
study in a bilingual education program.The U.N. report on language and education
shows that children who become literate in their own language, have greatest chance of
educational success. People have been discussing the latest figures on university
entrance, noticing that immigrant children do less well then ”Anglo” children at present,
therefore they think that the government has done too little for these children.In order to
improve the quality of the education system, it suggested to have bilingual programs for
all immigrant children. Australia is a multi cultural country and bilingual programs are a
pending issue.
