About
4. He was born in Amritsar in 1942, during the Second World War. His family had
to move to Deoghar soon after the establishment of Dabur factory in Bihar.
After the war got over, his family moved to Kolkata. There, he was sent to a
Hindi
medium school.
In 1951, Mr. Burman and his brother were enrolled in St. Paul, Darjeeling, an
esteemed english-medium school and Mr. Burman excelled in academics.
Apart from studies, he enjoyed cricket, soccer, gymnastics and boxing.
In 1960, he went off to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA to
get a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While studying there, he continued to
pursue his interests in wrestling, swimming and reading in his leisure time.
6. After graduating from the MIT, Mr. Burman migrated to Canada and started working
in Canadian Industries Ltd.
He returned to Kolkata, India in 1967, where he joined Dabur India Ltd. as an
executive. Meanwhile, the situation in Bengal had worsened because of the Naxal
movement. Amidst the unrest, curfews and lengthy power cuts, Dabur decided to
shift its operations to Delhi.
Mr. Burman was truly fascinated by Ayurveda. He mused about the difference
between modern and ancient science, and realised that both can be merged. Hence,
the Dabur motto: “Traditional Knowledge, Modern Research”.
7. Dabur had a new project, in collaboration with a Swiss company, Unipectin. The
factory of which was set up in Alwar, Rajasthan. It became functional in 1983 and
was Dabur’s first public venture in India. Later, the plant was shut down after it failed
to cover its costs. The factory was then converted into a manufacturing unit for
Dabur products and the Guar Gum Company was also merged with it.
In 1992, Pradip Burman moved to Delhi and started a new venture – A veterinary
division of Dabur India Ltd that manufactured Ayurvedic medicine for animals . It
was sold under the divisional name of Dabur Ayurvet Ltd and the consultant firm,
McKinsey & Co. was called in to professionalise the same. Eventually, unhappy with
the interference by McKinsey, Mr. Burman took over the firm and named it as
“Ayurvet Ltd.”
8. Mr. Burman headed the PHD Rural Development Foundation from 1996-99. He is
also the founder chairman of Sustainable Development Society (Sundesh), a CSR
initiative supported by Dabur, for development work in the rural areas. He serves as
the chairman of Mobius Foundation, a non-profit organisation working for education,

12. AGES
Founded by Pradip Burman, Alternative Green Energy Solution (AGES) is a company dedicated
solely to provide Hydroponic Green Feed throughout the year in our work towards sustainable
energy.
The word hydroponics comes from two Greek words, "hydro" meaning water and "ponics"
meaning labour. Plants require 3 things to flourish - Water, nutrients and sunlight, and
hydroponics is a straightforward way of providing all these nutrients, without the need of soil,
under controlled conditions to optimize growth.
Today, hydroponics is used in harsh climates, such as deserts, areas with poor soil quality or in
urban areas where high land costs have driven out traditional agriculture. Hydroponic fodder
production is probably best-suited to semi-arid, arid, and drought-prone regions of the world
suffering from chronic water shortages or in areas where irrigation infrastructure simply does
not exist.
13. Mobius Foundation
Mobius Foundation, founded by Pradip Burman, is a non-profit organisation promoting
environmental sustainability through relevant solutions that enable communities to break

day school in Uttar Pradesh, the non-profit also promotes population stabilization and ecological
conservation through Project Aakar and Project Sanjeevani.
Other projects include mobile health camps, school support programs, installation of solar street
lights, toilet construction, and training and awareness programs on food safety and natural
farming practices.
14. Sundesh
The main motive of Sundesh, a non-profit organisation, is to reach out to the weaker and vulnerable
sections of our society. Long before companies and individuals woke up to community service,
SUNDESH had been quietly working towards inclusive growth and empowering the society through
continuous and purposeful engagement of all partners in the development process. Founded by
Pradip Burman, SUNDESH operates in Ghaziabad, Gautam Budh Nagar and Hapur District of Uttar
Pradesh, Rudrapur district (Uttarakhand) and Baddi (Himachal Pradesh).
