2. Joyce Wrice is an up-and-coming R&B artist from San Diego, California. Blending the
new modern sound of music with a 90s style, Joyce Wrice has been a driving force among
creative innovators. I initially discovered this Joyce Wrice by viewing researching Spotify’s
trending artists. Spotify has been known to break unsigned artists to the masses, so I decided to
investigate the musical talents the app offered.
After going through a few hip-hop and R&B artists, I still didn’t find anything that caught
my ear. I was getting ready to log out of the app when I heard That’s on You (2020) by Joyce
Wrice. She was inspired to write this song due to all of the relationship issues she saw during the
covid pandemic. Her heartfelt lyrics for her single give a deeper insight to love and the
experiences that come with it.
I feel this song would be great to be placed in movies and TV shows. I recommend this
song be added to romantic-based situations based on the nature and feel of the song (i.e.
breakups, makeups, etc.). In addition, I have faith that Kobalt Music would be able to
3. successfully place this hit song into many shows and/or movies to get the best exposure for Joyce
Wrice.
Short Bio of Artist
Joyce Wrice was born in Los Angeles, California 1992 to a multiracial and multicultural
family. While going through the growing pains of being a biracial kid, she fell in love with 90’s
music. Wrice became of fan of artists like Brandy, Mariah Carey, Monica, and Aaliyah. After
secretly listening to her father’s Tamia CD, she decided to become a singer. Her vintage, yet
stylish presence has been a perfect addition to the music industry. Joyce Wrice has become a
must-go artist for many music goers using her powerhouse voice and soothing and relatable
lyrics.
Music/Social Media Stats
She has already started making her impact on the music industry by headlining the Candy
Drip Tour with fellow musician Lucky Daye. She also has already worked with major record
artists like Freddie Gibbs and Westside Gunn.

4. Kobalt Music Group
Kobalt Music Group is a well-established music publishing that began in 2000. Kobalt’s
roster includes Childish Gambino, the Foo Fighters, Marshmallow, Roddy Ricch, The Weeknd,
and more. KMG offers sync services to be paired with companies like Disney, ABC, and HBO.
Also, their services allow creators to retain 100% of their rights and collect royalties for their
clients. Gray (2015) states “Kobalt collects royalty money directly from services such as Spotify,
iTunes, YouTube and dozens of collection societies, cutting out the middlemen in many cases,
and claiming to earn clients, on average, some 30 percent more than they would have normally
received” (para. 23).
I believe this company would be a great fit for Joyce Wrice because of the freedom and
access they give their clients. For instance, an article from Music Business Worldwide (n.d.)
describes how “Kobalt’s ethos, globally, is to allow musical creators to continue owning their
copyrights even after they sign to the company” (para. 2). I chose this artist to be paired with
Kobalt because Joyce Wrice has already landed the theme song for Disney’s reboot of The Proud
Family on Disney Plus. Furthermore, she wouldn’t be a difficult artist to shop around because
she already has experience with synched music.
The point of contact that I decided to choose for my letter is Kate Loesch. Leosch is the
Senior Director, Creative, at KMG. The reason I chose Leosch is because she is currently based
out of the same area as Joyce Wrice and she has major record label experience at UMG and Song
Music. She has also worked with R&B artists like Mariah Carey.

Subject: R&B ARTIST SUBMISSION
Dear Ms. Leosch,
My name is Dawann Jones and I am currently working with an up-and-coming R&B
singer/songwriter Joyce Wrice. Based out of Los Angeles, California, she has been compared to
artists like Alicia Keys, Brandy, and Mariah Carey.
Kobalt Music is known for assisting artists like no other publishing company by giving creators
the ability to maintain their rights. In addition, Kobalt has been the driving force for staying
innovative, yet nostalgic in its approach to the music industry and its patrons. With you working
with artists like Toosii, Future, and Mariah Carey, I feel that Joyce Wrice would be a great
addition to the roster at KMG. Furthermore, Joyce Wrice has already landed a sync deal by
recording the theme song for Disney’s reboot of The Proud Family on Disney Plus.
I am proposing placing for Joyce Wrice’s single, “That’s On You”. She was inspired to write this
song due to all of the relationship issues she saw during the covid pandemic. Her heartfelt lyrics
for her single give a deeper insight to love and the experiences that come with it. To give even
more insight into the mind of Joyce Wrice, she has already released a music video to this hit
single as well.
I would like your response by April 21st
to allow my artists time to arrange travel and other
accommodations while in New York. I can be reached via text or call at (513) 555-9191 or via
email at dawannjones@student.fullsail.edu. I am looking forward to starting this new partnership
with your company.
Wish to hear from you soon,
Dawann Jones
