2. In Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (was adopted on 13
December 2006 at the United Nations Headquarters) is stated: "States Parties
recognize the rights of persons with disabilities to take part on an equal basis with
others in cultural life, and should take all appropriate measures to ensure that
persons with disabilities:
Enjoy access to places for cultural performances or services, such as theatres,
museums, cinemas, libraries and tourism services, and, as far as possible, enjoy
access to monuments and sites of national cultural importance."
Republic of Armenia validated the Convention on 22 October 2010.
However, the majority of museums in the country are still not accessible for the
persons with disabilities
In particular, most of the museums of the RA haven’t complex service programs for
the visitors with disabilities. The studies are almost not being carried out to identify
and evaluate the abilities of the perception and needs of these groups.
Apart from the material resources the majority of the museums has not appropriate
specialists to work with such groups.
3. This approach certainly solves the problems connected with the
accessibility of the cultural heritage, the researching of the
separate groups’ needs.
Under the such circumstances an effective method
solving the problem is the development and implementation of
special educational programs for the target groups with
disabilities.

was organized for the
participants trying to increase
the sensual abilities of the
exhibited ornaments of grape

typical to Zvartnots.
During the project the sloping

of the museum-reserve to serve the
visitors with physical disabilities.
7.
8. The discussion was held under the
headline “The accessibility of
cultural heritage to the visitors with
disabilities ” with the participation
of NGOs:
“Unison”, “Bridge of Hope”,
“Harmony” interested in the
issues of people with disabilities
and The Association of
museums’ specialists and
friends” , “ICOM Armenian
National Committee”.
10. Within the framework of the next phase of the project we collaborated with the
“Training and Social Integration Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Persons”
Dialogue Center. Different age beneficiaries’ group (from 13-59) of the center took
part in a tour, which was held with a sign-language interpretation (the interpreter
was A. Berberyan –specialist of the center).
11. The participants passed through the main itinerary of the museum-reserve, asked
questions of their interest and exchanged thought. At the end they filled special
questionnaires connected with the program.
13. The collaboration was continued with the Dialog center within the
framework of the 35th
Anniversary of the International Museum Day. The
group of young photographs with hearing impairment (from 14 to 34 years
old) left for “Metsamor” historical- archaeological and “Zvartnots” historical-
cultural museum-reserves where they took photos of the museum values along
with the sign-language interpretation.
14. During the program the
group left for “Zvartnots’’
historical-cultural museum-
reserve and in the new exhibition
sector was introduced to
universal value of the
monument.
In the museum the participants
received illustrated brochures of
“Zvartnots” historical- cultural
museum-reserve and programs of
international museum day.
15. 1. The selection of the target group was carried out on the basis of the
consultation with specialists.
2. The subject of the research was the conditions of the museum-reserves to work
with such kind of auditories.
3. The project’s implementation method was an interactive communication.
4. The assessment of the educational processes’ influence was crucial which was
implemented with similar and varied methods in 3 stages of the project.
According to the aims of
the project:
16.
17. Such kind of educational programs
are necessary for the museum-
reserves.
The project is effective to appraise
the museum’s educational
potential.
The implementation of the project
is an opportunity for the staff of the
museum-reserve to gather
experience, to use the museum
collections in a new way, to carry
out interactive communication
processes.
Conclusion
18. The participants and the
specialists involved in the
process of the implementation
of the project spoke out for the
continuation of the project and
the inclusion of new auditories,
monuments and museum-
reserves.Thus, there is a great
demand for the implementation
of such kind of projects which
will take effective turn.
