As a Safety Coach it is my responsibility to promote myself and the benefits of the role to the
workforce, I achieve this by being active in the promotion of health and safety and constantly
modelling safe behaviour.
My main Responsibilities are to:
Carry out health, safety & environmental workplace assessments to ensure that best practice is
employed and that Health, Safety and Environmental legislation is complied with. This includes
assessing the ergonomics of workstations and giving individual advice on the potential hazards
of the activities being undertaken. I carry these workplace assessments out by using
observational techniques and by having open and honest conversations with the person
concerned to promote shared ownership of health and safety and get their personal buy-in to
achieve safer processes
Assist and advise supervisors with their responsibilities to ensure that the risk assessment
programme is completed throughout the facility. Also reviewing and auditing risk assessments
to achieve greater consistency to the risk assessment programme, and identifying any high-risk
activities in work areas and any training requirements to fill knowledge gaps.
Develop and deliver generic Health, Safety and Environmental training packages in line with the
facilities training programme / Risk assessments to include:
Health & Safety and Environmental inductions and refreshers to British Safety Council Level 2
examination requirements
Spillage containment and response actions

Deliver British Safety Level 2 Risk Assessment qualification training to team leaders and

equipment
Perform Face Fit Testing plant wide, as required
Provide one to one or team coaching, practical advice and/or assistance to the workforce
related to health, safety or environmental issues.
Assist and advise supervisors with their responsibility to investigate accidents, near misses and
incidents. Review / audit Next Day Story Boards to check that control measures have been
implemented and are adequate to satisfy the hierarchy of control.
Attend and actively participate in health, safety and environmental meetings.
Provide practical hands-on support and guidance with workplace improvement programmes and
procedures within the facility.
Provide health, safety & environmental support to New Product Introductions, Process Failure
Mode Effective Analysis teams, and to planning and tooling meetings with the Manufacturing
Engineering department.
Provide up-to-date information on Health and Safety legislation to the manufacturing
engineering department when new tooling is required or areas are being relocated.
Assist in any facility wide Housekeeping or Behavioural Observation programmes
Active member of the Health and Safety Committee
Active member of the Traffic Management Committee
Active member of the Hazardous Substance Team, responsible for reviewing and updating any
existing CoSHH assessments, and reviewing and assessing new substances brought in to the
business.

Leading a team of 10 men preparing and packing Backhoe Machines for containerization to be
shipped all over the world. Responsible for monitoring Health and safety to include risk
assessments. Monitoring the quality and reporting defects of any machines prior to shipping and
supervising the rework of any faults discovered. Working on night shift in sole charge of the
area. Reporting to Manager at the end of the shift providing details of the previous evening
production. Ensuring targets are met.

General Notes
I have 30 years in construction plant operating and earthmoving. Working many different
environments including civil engineering,quarrying road working open cast mining operations. I
have operated many different types and sizes of plant machinery which have included
excavators up to 90 tons and Caterpillar D3 to D9 dozers. Also Caterpillar 180 backhoes
including centre pivot. have now moved on to work in test and development for Caterpillar which
takes me overseas working with Engineers and technicians in all aspects of machine
development. My working knowledge of production work has been a great benefit to the testing
aspect when working on new developments. My experience has also been of benefit as
accuracy and smoothness of the operating is imperative to get the correct results first time. I
have recently been working in Japan with engineers to evaluate new systems for production. I
have also been testing in Spain, Now working in EHS.
