12. Challenge
• This tyre manufacturer was utilising 30+ transport companies for their deliveries - a significant administrative
burden to the business and a tough challenge to manage efficiently. A manual dispatch process was in place
which was prone to human error and a manual invoicing process required that each state authorise each
invoice before it was then sent back to head office for processing.
Solution
• We implemented a supplier that specialised in automotive freight and consolidated all transport with this
carrier. Our exacting service levels and a thorough program of team training ensured a smooth transition
process. As part of our solution we installed an electronic dispatch and invoicing system supported by a
centralisedcustomer service centre. Our client now has a simplified national rate card and receives a single
invoice once a week.
Results
• A reduction in transport costs of 10% has been achieved. Furthermore, a reduction in both invoicing processing
time and warehouse labour costs has been realised. This has all been achieved with a delivery in full on time
(DIFOT) result of 98%. Feedback from Yokohama’s customers has been overwhelmingly positive – reflected
through increased sales.

13. Challenge
• Prior to 2008, Tradelink’s supply chain was fragmented with 450+ carriers nationally. With no KPI and DIFOT
reporting it was impossible to know the extent of the problem. A high volume of damages were occurring and a
large back office was required to support the transport function of the business - the signs were there that
unnecessary costs were being incurred. On a day-to-day level branches were unsure of which suppliers to use
for each consignment.
Solution
• In this situation less was certainly more. We implemented a core supplier and state based specialist to simplify
and streamline. With weekly and monthly reporting available, transparency increased and further
opportunities for efficiencies were identified. Our exacting service levels, 3PL services, consolidated invoicing
and 1300 number for retail store freight queries and quotes were just some of the services implemented for
this customer.
Results
• Results were immediate. A reduction in transport costs of 12% was and continues to be achieved. Furthermore,
a reduction in both transit times and invoicing processing time has been realised. A high level of delivery in full
on time (DIFOT) has been achieved. Ongoing efforts continue to further refine elements of the supply chain,
including wharf cartage, branch point to point courier services and state based requirements.
