A Teacher’s Favorites Cookbook

By Krysten Klein
“Students are like herbs and spices.
Each one is different and unique
with their own strengths. A dash
of each and you will end up with
a great recipe.”
How To Be A Successful Teacher
Each of the following recipes plays a key part
in becoming a successful teacher. Each recipe
contains important ingredients necessary to
create a positive, successful and structured
learning environment for my students.
Let’s get cooking!!
Multiple Learning Styles
½ cup linguistic
½ cup kinesthetic
½ cup interpersonal
½ cup naturalistic
½ cup existential

½ cup logical
½ cup musical
½ cup intrapersonal
½ cup spatial

9 different learning styles. Each of them need
to be acknowledged. Not all individuals learn
the same. I need to accommodate my
students needs in order for each individual to
be successful in their learning.
Organization
2 cups routines
½ cup structure

2 cups rules
¼ tbsp. consistency

The organization of the classroom will structure
it and help make it run smoothly. Rules and
routines will guide the students to appropriate
and acceptable behaviour. The most important
key to remember: consistency will result in a
positive and safe environment.
Relationships
¼ tbsp. time
½ cup respect
½ cup honesty
A dash of commitment

½ cup trust
¼ tsp loyalty
¾ tbsp. supportive

Maintaining relationships requires time and
commitment. I need to develop honest, loyal
and trusting relationships with my students.
Each individual in the classroom maintaining
a relationship needs to be respectful and
supportive of one another.
Confidence
1 cup believing in yourself
½ tbsp. positivity
1 ½ cups happiness
¼ tsp avoiding negativity
2 cups of helping others
Confidence doesn’t come easily. With a cup
of believing in yourself and a dash of
positivity, confidence can be cooked up.
Discipline
¼ tbsp. consistency
1 cup rules

½ cup firm rules
¾ cup confidence

Consistency is key! When disciplining students, I
need to be firm and consistent when delivering
consequences. A teacher who is confident in
their abilities will be successful when delivering
discipline. Rules and routines of the classroom
will help with discipline.
Beliefs
1 cup values
½ cup accepting
¾ tbsp. understanding

A pinch of family
A dash of individual

Every student will have different beliefs. As a
teacher I need to acknowledge these and accept
them. Their individual and family values will
influence these beliefs. I need to be accepting
and understanding of all of my students.
Patience
¾ cup understanding
½ tbsp. things take time
1 cup positive outlook

1 cup calm
½ tsp relax
½ cup breathe

As a teacher, I will be faced with stressful and
frustrating situations. But it is my responsibility
to approach these situations with patience and a
clear understanding of the situations. Always
have a positive outlook and remember to
breathe!
Collaboration
1 cup team work
¾ cup positivity

A pinch of understanding

Collaboration with other teachers can add
that delicious finish to the recipe. It is
important to work as a team to create a
positive and successful learning environment
for the students. Collaboration is key!
Curriculum
1 cup Math
1 cup Science
1 cup Social
1 cup Health

1 cup English
1 cup Art
1 cup Phys-Ed
1 cup Music

All aspects of the curriculum need to be properly
delivered so all the content is met and all the
students’ needs are considered. Lessons need to be
adapted to all learners needs. Lessons need to be
engaging and relevant to the real world.
Teaching
1 cup curriculum
1 cup discipline
1 cup collaboration
1 cup beliefs
1 cup patience
1 cup confidence
1 cup relationships
1 cup organization
1 cup multiple learning styles
Teaching is made up of many different
ingredients. Each of which contributes
immensely to a happy successful teacher.
