Idea: Street Play by kids with a theme “QUIT DRINKING/SMOKING”
Kids planned and executed a street play on harm caused due to drinking and
smoking. Though it’s a pretty simple concept kids took the whole idea into their
minds and performed the street play.

Idea: Plastic Free Centre!!
Kids initially planned to clean the beach near the centre(Someshwara). But it
made more sense to have a fully clean campus without any plastic left overs.
With all the prerequisites like gloves, gunny bags, card board boxes they went

2. hunting for plastic and paper wastes.. After 3 hours of rigorous cleaning we could
clean up as much as possible..

Idea: Letter To Authorities For Repairing the Road To the Centre
When we first told our kids about the design for change competition, it was met
with a lot of excitement and enthusiasm. The kids were given one week to think
of ways they could change the world around them, the best way they could. We
had a number of interesting ideas namely -1) the collection of clothes and money
for the poor from the neighboring homes, 2) do something about the repair of the
pothole ridden road the kids took to school and 3) the repair of the boy’s
bathroom doors in the kid’s school. We initially decided on the last idea as it was
a problem the kids faced every day. However after a little reconnaissance to the
school we found that bathroom doors were recently repaired.
Dejected yet not quite defeated we decided to go ahead with the idea number 2 -
do something about the bad road. The kids and we then decided that the best way
to handle the problem would be to write letters to local municipal officer
regarding the shabby state of the roads. Our kids then each wrote a letter
(bringing out the little writer within) explaining the problems that they faced
while travelling to school, how dangerous it was for the pedestrians and how the
rains left the potholes looking like little ponds. Surprisingly repair work began on
the roads even before we finished writing the letters. (The letters showed that our
kids took initiative and actively participated in changing their world. The letters
will be submitted by us (the volunteers) to the concerned authorities as soon as
the kids get back from their holiday vacation.)

Idea: Making The Divider Inside The Campus For Road Safety.
The kids came up with the idea of having dividers as some of the had witnessed
an accident which was caused when two vehicles collided due to the absence of a
divider. A divider was made inside the campus for avoiding accidents inside the
campus. The kids showed a lot of interest and enthusiasm during the
implementation of the idea. The kids spoke to their schoolmates and made them
aware of the importance of having a divider on road.

Idea: SAVE WATER, SAVE LIVES
Problem
In the home the kids had experienced water shortage on several occasions, when
DFC came along, it gave them a channel to voice their opinion. They decided to
create awareness about the lack of water, globally and why one must save water
and how it can be done making the smallest changes in our daily lives.
Solution & Implementation

4. A kids made several charts and poster on water shortage and different ways to
save water. They presented their work to their school mates and also the fellow
residents in the orphanage. The project was implanted on. They put up posters
regarding the conservation of water in their school campus as well as within the
orphanage to serve as constant reminder to save water.
Result:
Within a week of implementation, of the “SAVE WATER, SAVE LIVES” project,
the authorities told us that they have started to notice a gradual change in the
behaviour of the children toward water conservation.
GROUP 6
Class5 :- Level 1( WITH students of class 7 and 8 of the home)

Idea: Making Dustbins
Boys not only wanted the Home to be clean but also the surroundings clean. But
how? .. Awareness!!?? .. Yes .. it would help.! but only for to a certain extent and a
few days. Later it will get back to the same old situation. So, they wanted to
install dustbin near the shops adjacent to the campus. They literally made a
wooden dustbin and converted a used paint can into a small dust bin and donated
it to the shops nearby.
