Debabrata Bagchi presented a literature presentation on single atom alloy catalysts for electrochemical CO2 reduction. The presentation discussed techniques for synthesizing and characterizing single atom alloys, their use as electrocatalysts, and studies showing copper-lead and bismuth-copper single atom alloys can selectively reduce CO2 to formic acid. DFT modeling suggested the single atom alloys reduce the free energy of CO2 hydrogenation intermediates relative to pure copper catalysts.
