3. She, a Chinese first shot
This first shot is a medium
over the shoulder two shot
close up. The main
protagonist is in the
frame, and as we do not
know anything about her
we can reason that
because this is set in a
poorer area which does
not look like England, we
can say that she is still in
China. She is shown with a
man next to her which can
imply that she has close
family bonds.
4. Narrative
The main protagonist is a young women at around
the age of 21-22. She looks like a stereotypical
Chinese woman since this is shown by her hair in a
slight fringe. Furthermore we know that she wants
to escape to the west to Europe out of her village
in China. She then goes to London to find a new
job and to look for marriage. There is some
verisimilitude to be seen throughout the film as
the main protagonist is very tourist-like and does
not seem like the “hero” like in Campbells journey,
however she most definitely is since she is shown
the most throughout the entire movie, clearly
defining her as the point of focus.
