3. CHAPTER ONE
• Henry fielding compares the world to
the theatre. He explains that life also
mirrors the stage and real people are
like actors. Fielding uses several
Shakespeare references in this Book.
4. CHAPTER-2
Tom receives his property from Allworthy, with a letter
from Bilifil. The letter states that Allworthy would like Tom
to leave the country.
Tom decides to go to Bristol to live From that his journey
starts.
5. CHAPTERS-3,4,5,6
• Mrs. Western and Squire continuously force Sophia to
marry Mr. Blifil and forget Mr. Tom Jones.
• Once Sophia denied but later on agreed to marry Blifil
because of her generous nature.
• But her love for Tom Jones was so deep.
6. CHAPTER-7 to 8….
• Sophia decides she will leave the house that
night, and she asks Mrs. Honour to
accompany her. Honor agrees but she keeps
informing Sophia’s plane to her aunt.
7. CHAPTER-9
• Squire Western threatens to send Honour to Bridewell prison for
being ill-bred. After making a plan Sophia lies to her father that
she will now agree to the marriage to Blifil, and Squire Western
gives her money as reward.
• But upon seeing the muff again, her love for Tom is rekindled
and she recommits to the plan.
8. Chapter 13-14
• Tom Jones is on the path to Bristol, and he
decides to stay at a public house for the night.
He meets a Quaker, who tells his daughter's
recent marriage to a poor man. Tom is
disturbed and pushes him out of the room.
Then landlord refuses him a room as he is not a
gentleman.
• Tom sleeps in a chair in the bar, and the
landlord watches him all night.
• A group of soldiers arrive at the inn. Tom offers
to pay their bill and to travel with them.
9. Chapter 12-13
• When tom was talking with lieutenant then a French lieutenant
interrupted. He was a bombastic and ill-educated he teases Tom about
his love for Sophia, saying that the he had slept with both her and her
aunt.
• Tom fights and becomes injured.
• Next morning Tom wakes up.
10. CHAPTER 14-15
Tom was slightly recovered. He
went to revenge but that French
lieutenant was escaped from that
place.
and his journey starts again.
