97% of scientists believe that humans are to blame for global warming because of the industrial activities have raised two hundred and eighty parts per
million to four hundred parts per million in the last hundred and fifty years. The burning of fossil fuels like coal and oil has went up the atmosphere
because of carbon dioxide the oil and coal burning it, it combines carbon with oxygen in the air to make carbon dioxide when the carbon dioxide
reaches the atmosphere, is rapidly distributed between atmosphere, the upper–ocean and vegetation.

Global warming has been happening for a long time, and carbon dioxide has been going up to our atmosphere ever since the eighteen hundreds the
average surface temperature has increased one degree Fahrenheit since then. Most of the increases of the temperature has occurred the past three
decades which means we've been destroying our earth the past thirty years.

What is global warming? As defined by Encarta Dictionary it is an increase in the world's temperatures, believed to be caused in part by greenhouse

(Marten). Since that time, the population has increased substantially. Below is a chart from Human Ecology that depicts the population growth over a
200–year span. With the increase in population came an increase in deforestation for shelter and home heating. The incomplete burning of fossil fuels
produces and releases carbon monoxide into the Earth's atmosphere. (Wang–lecture notes) It stands to reason that man has left an impact on his
environment, and the main element of that impact comes in the form of air pollution. The components of air pollution are nitrogen, smog, particulates,
acid rain, and carbon monoxide (Wang–lecture notes from class). "The main source of nitrogen dioxide resulting from human activities is the
combustion of fossil fuels (coal, gas and oil), especially petrol used in cars" (Nitrogen Dioxide). Petroleum and coal also contain sulfur when burned it

These environmental shifts have definitely played a part in atmospheric changes. More recently, however, humans have had a much greater effect on the

Global Warming, aside from pollution is one of scientists biggest concerns. Global Warming is caused by the Greenhouse effect. There are 4 steps in
the Greenhouse effect process. The first is, sunlight radiates from the sun, through space, to the Earth's atmosphere. The second is, sunlight enters the
atmosphere and hits the Earth. Some of that sunlight turns into heat energy in the form of infrared light. Surrounding air and land, which in turn

Another event that would occur from global warming is the drastic rise in sea level. As the Earth warms up, the polar ice caps will start to melt. This
would put immense amounts of water into the Earth's oceans. All cities along all the coasts would be flooded from the rise in sea level. This would
cause people to move inland, and with more people inland, it would cause a shortage of space in some areas. With the coastal cities under water, this

Our planet's atmosphere traps energy just like a greenhouse. Energy from the Sun can enter the Earth's atmosphere, but not all of it can easily find its
way out again.
What blocks the Sun's energy from escaping from the Earth? Unlike a greenhouse, the Earth does not have a layer of glass over it! Instead, molecules in
our atmosphere called greenhouse gasses absorb the heat. Greenhouse gasses include water vapor, methane, ozone, nitrous oxide, and carbon dioxide.

About 30 gases produced by human activity have been identified as contributing to the greenhouse effect. These are sometimes called greenhouse
gases. The main ones are carbon dioxide, methane, CFCs and nitrous oxide. Sunlight reaches the Earth's surface, is reflected off it, and is prevented
from escaping from the atmosphere by this layer of gases, which acts like glass in a greenhouse.
Up to a point, the greenhouse effect is a natural process, and naturally occuring carbon dioxide is not dangerous. Without greenhouse gases, the average
temperature of the Earth would be –19C , in other words, too cold for us to live. However, the concentration of the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere
has changed dramatically: since the 18th century, carbon dioxide has increased by 30%.
There is disagreement among scientists about the seriousness of global warming. Most scientists agree that the global temperature is rising. They do
not agree on more specific elements of the issue: How much will it warm up? What will happen if it does warm up? How far are humans responsible?

Scientists believe that if we go on producing gases at the rate we do now, it is likely that the Earth's average temperature will rise by about 0.3

One of the hottest topics being discussed now a days is the effects of global warming on the environment and the efforts being made in order to
combat the potential effects. Simply put, global warming refers to the environmental effects caused by the constant emission of carbon dioxide from
carbon based fuels. These effects are supposedly widespread; the temperature of the earth will rise, the land becomes less conducive to, vegetation, and

The question then arises, if a plan of action is going to be taken, which would be the wisest? And the answer depends directly on the amount of
certainty one has about the effects of global warming. At one end of the spectrum is the belief that a modest tax on carbon–based fuel should be
employed.
At the other end is the Green peace camp which wants an exorbitant tax on such fuels. In the middle are those which want a tax on such fuels which
would be adjusted according to a timetable to make sure that goals for reducing carbon dioxide will be met on time. One prominent goal is to have
the level of carbon dioxide at the year 2000 to remain at 1990 levels.
And politically, getting different interests to agree on a plan of action is not easy. While running for office, both President Clinton and Vice
President Gore promised to' institute a timetable by which carbon dioxide levels in the year 2000 will not exceed 1990 levels. However, the
President backed out because he feared the backlash of his opponents who would accuse him of trying to cut the usage of carbon based fuels by
adding to the already proposed gasoline tax.

Many claim that global warming is obvious and that all arguments against global warming fall. The problem is that what is "obvious" often isn't true.
