Sabah Economic Development Corporation
(SEDCO) was formed in December 21, 1971 as a
state owned agency to assist in the government
efforts in stimulating industrial, commercial, and
socio-economic development of the Sabah state.
SEDCO missions is to accelerate economic
development and to promote quality Bumiputera
Commercial and Industrial Community
Participation while ensuring sustainability and
growth of the corporation.

SEIRI Distinguish the necessary things from the unnecessary and dispose of the
(Sort) unnecessary. This is the priority area.
SEITON Arrange the necessary items in an orderly fashion so they are easily accessed
(Straighten) and selected for use.
SEISO Clean your workplace to keep floors and equipment tidy
(Scrub)
SIEKETSU Continually maintain the order, neatness and cleanliness.
(Standardize)
SHITSUKE Do things spontaneously without being told. Train everyone in the workplace
(Sustain) to follow good work habits so that is a matter of personal pride and self-
respect.

20. Suggestion &Recommendation
• Since Sabah Economic Development Corporation
(SEDCO) did not implement FIVE (5) S yet within
their organization, researchers believe these
improvement tools are more powerful tools that can
be implemented at lower cost.
• A critical factor to successfully implementing and
sustaining the benefits of a 5S program is the
significant role employees will play. Actual areas of
facility are chosen for improvement (Office, Filing
room, toilet, library as well as the whole
organization). These areas serve as the practical
hands-on exercises for the application of each 5S
technique.

SEIRI Identify the items that are needed to perform work in the work
SORT areas. Clear (sort out) all other items from the work area. Benefits:
Extra work space
Improved safety
Improved productivity
More visible work flow
Improved employee satisfaction (better place to work)

SHITSUKE Integrate 5S principles into the organization's Standard
SUSTAIN Operation Procedures (SOP) in order to sustain new
standards and continually improve the workplace.
