2. Introduction
Sir Francis Drake was an English sea captain
and privateer of the Elizabethan era. Drake’s
Drum is a snare drum that he took with him
when he circumnavigated the world and even
took into battle.
Shortly before he died he ordered the drum
to be taken to Buckland Abbey and vowed
that if England were ever in danger and
someone was to beat the drum he would
return to defend the country.
3. Why
It is important for the
elderly to live an
independent life for as long
as possible.
In order to live happily they
would like to have piece of
mind that someone is easily
contactable in case of an
emergency.
4. Delivery
Taking the principle of Drake’s
Drum, design a wearable
device that the elderly can
activate in moments of
distress. This would then
notify a close family member
or friend.
5. Requirements
• It must be wearable but not intrusive for
the user.
• Manufacturing budget is up to £40.
• It should be injection moulded for mass
production.
