WALL COVERING ART | OBJECTS OF AFFECTION | UPHOLSTERY
‘SLOW is more than the time it takes to complete something…
Its qualities connect us deeply to past traditions and a sustainable
future, while informing us in the present. Whether by hand or machine,
individual artistic enterprise or commercial endeavour, slow textiles are
a means of cultural expression in a community or personal exploration.’

INDIGO
EBONY
COLLECTION
We are delighted to introduce our
launch collection of ‘Khom fabrics’.
The 3rd generation international
flagship of the acclaimed Thai
mother brand ‘Khomapastr’.
Each collection is unique to the
vision of our ‘Khom Kholab’ artists,
designers and specialists who
interpret our treasure box of over
1,000 Siamese patterns for creative
& mindful modern living.
By nature of small batch production
handprinted by eye with natural
living dyes, every piece of fabric is
‘one of a kind’ and made to order.
Allowing our customers to enjoy a
personal tailor made atelier service.
NATURE IS OUR COLOURIST
Indigo and ebony have embodied
a natural opulence and mystery
since ancient times. Both their
blue and grey brown dyes remain
alive as they are absorbed into
the fabric. The bacterial microbes
that assist the bio-process of dye
extraction from the indigo leaf and
ebony fruit continually mature and
evolve. This lends an energetic
living palette to our hand printing
process. Providing unique organic
colouration for each piece of cloth.
INDIGO is an ethereal colour
of wisdom and intuition. It represents
spiritual awareness, and allows for
uplifting focus. Those who feel
connected to indigo are often
faithful, idealistic and intuitive.
EBONY is a highly sophisticated
colour that nurtures a sense of safe
space. Its grounding hues of deep
brown, charcoal and olive have a
calming effect that eases stress and
tension. Ebony is incredibly powerful
at extinguishing negative energy.
Khom Fabrics is the first textile
printing house to offer Siamese
patterns in hand printed silk
screen, using natural living

TEXTURES
TONES
“There is a way that nature speaks, that land speaks. Most of the time
we are simply not patient enough, quiet enough, to pay attention
to her story.” - Linda Hogan, writer, poet and environmentalist
By studying patterns in nature, we gain appreciation & understanding of the
world & how everything is connected. Leading to deeper empathy, greater
imagination & connection with our spiritual self. This philosophy is at the heart
of Khom Fabric’s signature motifs & slow way of life. Each motif is a poetic
abstraction of nature upon the themes of evolution, re-birth and harmony.
SUBTLE TEXTURES
The compatibility between fabric texture and dye absorption is
fundamental to the success of using natural living dyes for hand printing.
FABRIC
Khom offers three types of unbleached cloth created especially for our
indigo ebony collection. They are a mix of small farm cottons, hemp and
pineapple fiber harvested from industrial waste.
LIGHT MUSLIN HEMP GRIEGE
53% organic cotton 34% cotton 13% hemp
MEDIUM WEIGHT PINEAPPLE GRIEGE
85% cotton 15% pineapple
THICK CANVAS PINEAPPLE GREIGE
90% cotton 10% pineapple
KAPOK
We use wild organic kapok grown in permaculture forests for all our
objects of affection and light upholstery. Its silk like fibers are naturally
water resistant making it durable, flexural and breathable.
Historically Khom fabrics
has used plain cotton for hand
printing to achieve a more
refined motif definition due to
its high absorbency. By adding
Hemp, one of the strongest and
most durable of all textile fibres,
resistant to UV light, mold and
mildew; And Pineapple leaf
fiber with its delicate silk like
texture, we hope to provide
versatile interior textiles
that help climate restoration
and improve soil quality.

THE HOUSE OF KHOM
The original printing
house in the seaside town
of Hua Hin a few hours from
Bangkok is still in operation
today. With a multi-
generation, predominantly
female workforce that
keeps the passion of the
artisan spirit & family ethos
alive. This community
commerce business model
was a very important part
of the founding spirit. It
provides apprenticeship
training, family care and
cultural continuum of artisan
craftsmanship.
Khom Fabrics is the 3rd generation off spring
of a family hand printing textile business with
an extensive archive of over 1,000 patterns
dating from 1948 to present day and growing.
The mother brand was founded during a period of social reform
in Thailand after WWII under the name ‘Khomapastr’ meaning
plain or white cloth. Their royal highnesses Prince Bovoradej
and Her Serene Highness Pajongchitr Kridakorn had a dream
to create a hand printing textile house that would share their
passion for artisan craftsmanship. Due to his death shortly after
the factory was established, Khomapastr, under the leadership
of HSH Pajongchitr, later inheirated by their three daughters
and grandaughters, defining the printing house as a pioneering
female enterprise of its time. This passion has evolved over
60 years to become a living cultural archive of Siamese
patterns for Thai people to be proud of and the world to enjoy.
A sense of belonging and
empowerment are at the root of artisan
enterprises. Providing local income, preserving
ancient cultures and employment, especially for women.
The current dream is to grow sustainable
new design and production practices upon
the legacy foundation of Khom fabrics. We
believe the future of artisan craftmanship
lies within collaboration and customization.
It is therefore with great pride and
pleasure that ‘Khom fabrics’ under the
‘next gen’ leadership of Asaya Kongsiri is
branching out into the world to bring you
the opportunity to interupt and enjoy the
endless possibilities of our living archive.

SLOW DESIGN CULTURE
Khom Kholab is an important part of our brand commitment
to keep the poetic art of Thai Patterns alive and relevant
for each generation. We hope that through each creative
collaboration, each collection inspires a fresh perspective on
the infinte possibilities within our heritage archive.
Khom Kholab 2023
Jarupatcha of Ausara - A textile surface designer, professor
& weaving artist has lead the research, design and technical
execution of the indigo ebony collection. As a Kholab textile
artist, she de-constructs and re-forms the classical formation of
Thai patterns for multi-dimensional wall coverings & interior art.
Cookie of Pure Monsters - Artist, designer and creative director,
draws inspiration from Thailand’s endangered species and the
mystical creatures of the legendary Himaphan forest to create
heirloom monsters that bring character and imagination to
everyday life.
Ake of Mahasamut - A furniture designer whose love for wood
and it’s natural symbiosis with other materials brings a playful
interpretation of classic Thai forms for creative modern living.
Jarupatcha’s love for textiles came at an early age when she would spend time knitting,
sewing and playing needlework with her grandmother, a seamstress teacher in the Royal
Palace. She continued the family tradition by studying Textiles at KTMIL, Thailand, at
the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, USA and at Central Saint Martins, UK. Her happy
place is on the loom beside ‘Doogdig’, her beloved rescue dog and mascot companion.
As an academic, Jarupatcha’s focus is on sustainable textiles and is a lecturer at KMITL.
She has worked on design projects with The International Trade Centre, United Nations
Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Thailand Creative and Design Centre
(TCDC), Office of Knowledge Management and Development (OKMD) and collaborated
on art and design projects with Jim Thompson, Alexander Lamont, Tai Ping and Doi Tung.
A co-founder and art director of ‘Ausara Surface and Textiles’, an award winning textile
designcompany,Jarupatchaextendsherpassionforsustainabletextileinnovationinherexpression
asafineartistandiscurrentlyexhibitingherworksincontemporarygalleriesanddesignfestivals.
As the leading design consultant for Khom fabrics, Jaruptacha has combined her
extensive knowledge and outreach to Thailand’s innovators of natural dyes, hand
printing and weaving to define both design and production practices. To bring
a modern relevance to the art of Thai patterns through deconstruction and reform
whilst maintaining a respect and reverence for the heritage of its ancient mastery.

COOKIE
Cookie Campbell is the creator and artist of Pure Monsters, making bespoke objects of
affection character collectables. Each Monster is carefully created with their own hand
written life story. Often shaped by precious found objects, antique dolls eyes and upcycled
materials that are a part of their DNA. They are all part of the ‘Pure Monster Family’, each
bearing the genetics of the generation before, yet unique in their own special way.
“This collection of Pure Monsters is the result of drawing inspiration from rediscovering
my Thai hertiage and the mythical Himaphan forest. Exploring a contempory approach
to Thai folklore. Weaving the influence of the spirit world and nature, bringing each
character to life.”
In 2007, Cookie graduated from Central Saint Martins with a Bachelor of Art in Textile
Design. She spent the following years in Europe as a luxury shoe and bag designer,
simultaneously honing her art towards character creation. In 2013, she was selected by
Pictoplasma as one of the top emerging international character designers, exhibiting her
monsters at the 10th anniversary Pictoplasma Character Conference in Berlin.
Raised between New Zealand and Thailand and having lived in London, Paris, Amsterdam,
Milan, Berlin, Florence, Mallorca, she now resides in Phuket. Cookie’s involvement with Khom
Kholab represents a part of the international creative wave coming out of Thailand today.
of Pure Monsters
AKE
Ake Atthasumpunna founded ‘Mahasamut Furniture’ in 2008, two years after graduating
from KMITL BANGKOK. Mahasamut means Ocean in Thai. ‘I want to explain and interpret
works that show Thainess in the modern era through a design conversation about identity
with furniture as a medium’, explains Ake.
For Khom Kholab, Ake has chosen to tackle a contemporary Thai identity issue. ‘How can
we overcome the difficulty of feeling proud to be Thai and all our ancient heritage but feel
awkward to bring a certain Thainess that is connected to this heritage into our ‘modern
home’ setting?’. Ake set out to make a collection of re-cycled wood and metal furniture
that is simple and easy to understand.
Taking classical Thai forms that everyone knows and associates with Thailand, the triangle
cushion is already an iconic product of The House of Khom. By simply turning it upside
down, all that is needed is a cradle to support the form. Nothing more.
Another inspiration comes from Thai folk furniture, that creates multi-purpose sitting, eating
or sleeping solutions. This resulted in the creation of stools, benches and armchairs with
inter-changable and removable upholstery. This design resonates both with the versatility
once needed in an open plan Thai house and the demands of space, storage and simplicity
in a modern home.

This community commerce business model was a very important part of the founding spirit. It provides apprenticeship training, family care and cultural continuum of artisan craftsmanship.
  • 30. Khom Fabrics is the 3rd generation off spring of a family hand printing textile business with an extensive archive of over 1,000 patterns dating from 1948 to present day and growing. The mother brand was founded during a period of social reform in Thailand after WWII under the name ‘Khomapastr’ meaning plain or white cloth. Their royal highnesses Prince Bovoradej and Her Serene Highness Pajongchitr Kridakorn had a dream to create a hand printing textile house that would share their passion for artisan craftsmanship. Due to his death shortly after the factory was established, Khomapastr, under the leadership of HSH Pajongchitr, later inheirated by their three daughters and grandaughters, defining the printing house as a pioneering female enterprise of its time. This passion has evolved over 60 years to become a living cultural archive of Siamese patterns for Thai people to be proud of and the world to enjoy.

Her happy place is on the loom beside ‘Doogdig’, her beloved rescue dog and mascot companion. As an academic, Jarupatcha’s focus is on sustainable textiles and is a lecturer at KMITL. • 38. AKE Ake Atthasumpunna founded ‘Mahasamut Furniture’ in 2008, two years after graduating from KMITL BANGKOK. Mahasamut means Ocean in Thai. ‘I want to explain and interpret works that show Thainess in the modern era through a design conversation about identity with furniture as a medium’, explains Ake. For Khom Kholab, Ake has chosen to tackle a contemporary Thai identity issue. ‘How can we overcome the difficulty of feeling proud to be Thai and all our ancient heritage but feel awkward to bring a certain Thainess that is connected to this heritage into our ‘modern home’ setting?’. Ake set out to make a collection of re-cycled wood and metal furniture that is simple and easy to understand. Taking classical Thai forms that everyone knows and associates with Thailand, the triangle cushion is already an iconic product of The House of Khom. By simply turning it upside down, all that is needed is a cradle to support the form. Nothing more. Another inspiration comes from Thai folk furniture, that creates multi-purpose sitting, eating or sleeping solutions. This resulted in the creation of stools, benches and armchairs with inter-changable and removable upholstery. This design resonates both with the versatility once needed in an open plan Thai house and the demands of space, storage and simplicity in a modern home. of Mahasamut
