2. INT. SAMANTHA’S HOUSE/BEDROOM - MORNING
Buzzing and vibrating, Samantha’s phone lights up as it RINGS
from her night stand.
Half-asleep and a little hungover, Samantha rolls over and
GROANS as she reaches out for the phone.
SAMANTHA
(mumbles)
Hello? Hey Dad.
She suddenly sits up, attentively. Her eyes widen.
SAMANTHA (CONT’D)
What?! How?!
(beat)
Okay.
(beat)
Okay. Of course, yeah. I’ll call
them.
She ends the call and lets the phone drop to her lap. Clearly
distraught, she runs her hands through her hair as she takes
a deep breath. She turns to her left to see that Billy is
gone.
INT. HOTEL/ABBEY’S ROOM - DAY
Abbey zips up a bag full of her clothes. She stops and takes
a moment to look around the small room.
Several packed bags sit on the bed. The bed is made and
everything seems perfectly in place. A sudden KNOCK comes
from the door.
She walks over to open it. Samantha, eyes watering, stands
outside.
ABBEY
Sammy, what’s wrong?!
SAMANTHA
I got a call from my dad a few
minutes ago.
Abbey shakes her head, still not understanding.
SAMANTHA (CONT’D)
Connor--
(beat)
He’s dead.
3. GASPING, Abbey covers her mouth in shock. She’s speechless.
SAMANTHA (CONT’D)
He, umm... He wants us all to go
down to the station. He has some
questions.
ABBEY
Of course.
She turns to grab her wallet from the side pouch of one of
her bags. She quickly walks out the door and slams it shut
behind her.
INT. POLICE STATION/CONFERENCE ROOM - DAY
The room is rather small, especially with the long conference
table taking up much of the space in the middle.
Nathan and Claire, holding hands, sit at the furthest end of
the table, across from Abbey. Samantha leans against the wall
behind them with her arms crossed.
SHERIFF WILSON DAVIS (50) leans on the front end of the
table, facing the small group. DEPUTY JEREMY WELLS (25), a
rather scrawny guy, stands next to him.
ABBEY
So, these murders are connected to
the prank?
SHERIFF DAVIS
We have no reason to suspect
otherwise. Both victims were
involved in that incident.
NATHAN
But Connor... What happened at his
bar, maybe the fire was caused
accidentally?
CLAIRE
Yeah, it could have been a candle.
Or faulty wiring.
SHERIFF DAVIS
They’re still performing an autopsy
on Mr. Robinson’s body. However,
the young girl we found...
(shakes head)
There’s no way it was an accident.
2.
4. SAMANTHA
What happened to them?
SHERIFF DAVIS
We can’t say at this time--
SAMANTHA
Can’t or won’t?
SHERIFF DAVIS
Sam, you know I can’t release that
information yet.
SAMANTHA
Dad, he was our friend. We deserve
to know!
Abbey turns to Samantha and lightly grabs her arm.
ABBEY
It’s okay.
(turns back to Sheriff
Davis)
So what do we do?
A HEAVY KNOCK comes from the door and a DEPUTY pulls it open
from the outside, leading Billy inside. The deputy leaves,
closing the door behind them.
SHERIFF DAVIS
Mr. Carson. About time, son. Have a
seat.
BILLY
I’ll stand.
Samantha glares at Billy as he walks toward the window. He
catches her stare, and quickly turns to look at the sheriff.
BILLY (CONT’D)
What’s going on, sheriff?
SHERIFF DAVIS
Where were you last night?
Billy takes a deep breath and turns back to exchange glances
with Samantha. She cocks an eyebrow.
SHERIFF DAVIS (CONT’D)
Well?
BILLY
Your house.
3.
5. SHERIFF DAVIS
Excuse me?
BILLY
I spent the night with your
daughter.
The sheriff’s face grows red as he turns to look at Samantha.
She doesn’t flinch. He shakes his head, disapprovingly,
before turning back to Billy.
SHERIFF DAVIS
And you were there all night?
BILLY
Yeah, I was.
SHERIFF DAVIS
(turns to Samantha)
Is that true, Sam?
Samantha gives Billy a cold stare, not looking at Sheriff
Davis.
SAMANTHA
Yup.
Sheriff Davis bites his lower lip and nods. He leans in to
talk to Deputy Wells.
WELLS
Sheriff?
SHERIFF DAVIS
None of these kids can leave town.
Tell them that’s protocol, for the
time being they’re all suspects.
(beat)
And Wells, I want you to keep an
eye on my daughter. Okay?
Wells nods as he nervously approaches the conference table.
Sheriff Davis signals for Billy to come over to him.
BILLY
(nervously)
What’s up?
SHERIFF DAVIS
Follow me, I need to have a word
with you.

6. INT. SAMANTHA’S CAR - DAY
Samantha clutches onto the steering wheel as Abbey gets into
the passenger’s seat. They’re in the police station visitor's
parking lot.
SAMANTHA
He lied.
ABBEY
(confused)
What? Who?
Samantha turns to face Abbey.
SAMANTHA
He spent the night last night but
when I woke up he was gone, Abbey.
ABBEY
Why didn’t you say anything?
SAMANTHA
I don’t know! I--
(beat)
Honestly, do you really think Billy
could be capable of murder?!
ABBEY
People can surprise you nowadays...
SAMANTHA
Yeah. No shit.
The engine ROARS as Samantha turns the keys in the ignition.
ABBEY
But if he had nothing to hide, why
lie?
The two girls exchange looks. The car peels out of the
parking spot and exits the lot.
