Student Nutrition Essay
How does lifestyle influence student's eating habits? Do different lifestyles affect student's eating habits? The consumption of a healthy eating, weight
control and general wellness are getting more significance throughout the daily living of the students. (Jackson, Berry, & Kennedy, 2009). Healthy
diets, that contained low saturated fat and being rich in plant foods, have the advantages of increased longevity and lower percentages of chronic
diseases. (Papadaki, Hondros, Scott, & Kapsokefalou, 2007). In general, part of the lifestyles and eating are started early in the student life. After the
students have moved out from their comfort with their parents and changes in living arrangements, it will affect the outcomes of food choices,...show

The questions had included open–ended variables and Likert scale variables. The lifestyle factors that were included in the questions were place of
residence; method of getting to campus; money spending on food per week; hours spent studying per week; travelling time to campus; hours
spent on campus per day; physical activity pattern. Eating habits questions were also categorised into money spent on food each day; regularity to
buy breakfast on campus per week; regularity to buy lunch on campus each week; regularity to buy supper on campus each week; number of times
one packs a lunch during the week; how many serves of fast food is consumed per week; how many serves of caffeine per day; how many serves
of water per day; how many serves of alcohol per week. Serving guidelines were provided. (Jackson et al., 2009). The questionnaire turned out to be a
mixture of significant results from the lifestyle factors and eating habits. The study had shown eating habits were related to the following lifestyle
factors: money spending on food; travelling time to campus; hours spent on campus. However, it had showed no relation on eating habits with hours
spent studying. Moreover, students who walked to campus packed lunch less than those who drove to campus, but it mostly depends the way to get to
campus and the money spending for food. Students who lived away from home consumed twice the amount of alcoholic drinks per week

Food and Nutrition Essay
Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life. People deal with food every day, and food has been a
part of life since the beginning of civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and
how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common
knowledge on what is good and what is bad for the human body to consume. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are some common items people think
of when they think of healthy foods. However, it is not enough just to know what foods are good for your body, it is also important to understand why

These include obesity, diabetes, and several heart conditions. Obesity is the term used for someone who qualifies as significantly overweight. A
BMI (Body Mass Index) records weight in relation to height. A BMI of 25 is overweight and a BMI of 30 is obese. Obesity is not a disease in its
self but it can lead to different health issues, some fatal. Obesity can be related to eighty percent of type two diabetes, seventy percent of
cardiovascular disease, thirty percent to gall bladder surgeries, and forty two percent to breast and colon cancer. Unfortunately, obesity rates in
people are rising rapidly. The United States alone had an obesity rate of twenty six percent in 2007. Some cases of obesity are gene related, but
most other cases are a result of improper dieting and exercise among the individual ("Why Is Proper Nutrition Important?", Case Western Reserve
University). Type II diabetes is another major effect from improper diet and nutrition. When someone is a type II diabetic, their body either produces
too little of an amount of insulin, or their body's cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is important in helping your body use sugar for Kavanaugh 3 energy.
When a person consumes food with sugar, the sugar is broken down into glucose. Glucose is used as an energy source for the body and is transported
throughout your blood into the cells by insulin. Without proper amounts of insulin, your body is unable to use the glucose as

Proteins in Nutrition Essays
Proteins in Nutrition
Proteins are very large molecules made of amino acids, of which there are twenty. Eight of these amino acids are "essential," meaning that they cannot
be synthesized in the body even though they are necessary for life. Essential amino acids must be consumed from sources outside the body.
Early in the twentieth century, studies of rats revealed that this rodent grows better using animal sources of protein. Knowing nothing of humans, which
are harder to study because they live so much longer, grow to adulthood so much slower, and metabolize food so much slower, nutritional scientists
applied what they had learned about rats to humans. The conclusion was that animal sources...show more content...
Soy is a perfectly acceptable source of protein and contains substances which are anticarcinogenic (the isoflavones).
An ideal intake of protein is 0.8 grams per kilogram of body weight. Excess protein is defined as more than 1.6 grams per kilogram of body weight. For
an average–size, seventy– kilogram man, this amounts to 70 x 1.6 = 112 grams. I understand that this is more than the officially recommended amount,
however I believe the official recommendation to be low.
Exceptions
People who are highly active in sports are breaking down muscle through exercise and should eat more protein than the average person. If you are not
highly active, and you think you simply feel better on a very high protein diet, you may have an enzymatic condition in which protein and fat is
metabolized especially well in your body. I suggest that you consult your nutritional medicine doctor to determine the perfect type of diet for you.
The liver breaks excess protein down into urea which is excreted through the kidneys. In circumstances of excessive protein intake, excessive quantities
of urea pass through the kidneys. Urea is a diuretic, which means that water is made to exit along with urea, and this water loss means the simultaneous
loss of minerals. The most important mineral lost is calcium.

Obesity is associated with a vast number of health problems. It is often looked at as just a severe cosmetic problem. In actuality, in addition to
being cosmetic, obesity is one of the leading causes of major health issues in the United States. According to medical news today, obesity is a key
risk factor for several conditions and diseases including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, several types of
cancers, gallbladder disease and gall stones, osteoarthritis, gout, and breathing problems including asthma and sleep apnea. These health factors have
also been liked to premature deaths in obese people. Someone who is 40% obese is two times more likely to die prematurely than a normal–weight
person (Cholesterol Management Health Center, 2011). Though obesity is a major concern in our American society, it is a manageable and even
preventable disease. Through proper fitness and dietary habits one can overcome and completely avoid the wrath of obesity. The Human body was
designed for movement; to serve as a vehicle to transport us from place to place. To fuel this vehicle, a balanced diet is critical. Ideally, our bodies
need a suitable balance of carbohydrates. If enough carbohydrates are not present, fats and proteins can be broken down to provide energy to our
bodies. In my personal diet I tend to incorporate a lot of foods that are high in carbohydrates. I tend to eat large amounts of pasta which

Reflection About Nutrition
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Food is essential for our bodies to: develop, replace and repair cells and tissues;
produce energy to keep warm, move and work; carry out chemical processes such as the digestion of food; protect against, resist and fight infection
and recover from sickness. Most people are always rushed due to their hectic schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets and simply just go
through a drive thru like me. Most people, including myself are unaware of the importance of eating and are unaware if the nutrients their lacking.

That being the case, I was over in added sugars, saturated fat, cholesterol, and sodium. More importantly I was also lacking dietary fiber, calcium,
potassium, magnesium, vitamin A, vitamin D, and vitamin E. I believe that I am not making healthy food choices and that is consequently the reason
why I am lacking and over nutrients, minerals, and vitamins. In order to be healthy, I must improve my food choices. I tend to go to McDonald's
often because I am too lazy to actually make myself something healthy. I should be more careful with my diet, because in the long run it can have
severely affect my health. For instance, heart disease, obesity, type 2 diabetes, and etc. On the other hand, eating a balanced diet is vital for good
health and wellbeing. It provides our bodies with the energy, protein, essential fats, vitamins and minerals to live, grow and function properly for
many years. To me it certainly isn't easy to cut off fast food and I honestly do not think I can cut it out of my life forever. I personally love it and
find it easier, yummier, and a lot faster. My goal is to eat healthier, and to be on target with every single one of my nutrients, minerals, and vitamins. I
will reward myself every once in a while, with some of my favorite not–so–healthy foods. In conclusion, I am very glad I was given this as an

A person eats to gain energy from food that allows our body to perform various functions that allows us to survive. The food that people take in
will go through their digestive system that then allows them to harness the energy within food. That energy that is taken from the food is then sent,
via the bloodstream, to all of the living cells. These cells then use this energy to perform their daily functions and tasks. We also eat food to help

The easiest way to lower a persons' risk of lifestyle disease is to change their diet to a more healthful one, and staying out of harmful environments.
So, lifestyle diseases are diseases that you can't always control but a person can greatly lower his risk of obtaining them. There are six different
food groups and they are: Fruit, Grain, Lean Meat and Poultry, Milk and Dairy, and Vegetables. You should eat mostly grains, vegetables, and
fruits. From most to least you should eat: Grain, Vegetables, Fruit, Lean Meat and Poultry, Milk and Dairy, and then lastly fats, oils, and sweets.
You should in small amounts and only sometimes eat fats, oils, and sweets. All of these different food groups contribute to your daily diet. The
Daily intake guidelines are the amounts and percentages of fats, proteins, carbs, etc. that a person should intake every day for healthy eating.
These guidelines are based on your weight; for example a person who weighs 100 lbs. would need less carbs than a person who weighs 200 lbs. It is
also based on your level of physical activity, height, and age. The daily intake (DI) you see on various foods is based on an average adult's daily
requirement of 8700kJ. The amount of kJ a person needs varies from person to person because we are all different and require different amounts of
nutrients. Minerals are a class of a class of nutrients that are inorganic compounds and that are necessary for certain body

Nutrition: Key Nutrients
When analyzing the nutrition facts label, one must consider the following key nutrients: calories, total fat, sodium, carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins
and other minerals. Calories provide energy to the human body, without them, majors organs would not be able to do work. One of the three
macronutrients, fat functions as a source of current and long–term energy. Sodium, an important nutrient to be consumed daily, helps the body maintain
blood pressure, stabilize water imbalances and perform daily functions. Unlike cholesterol, sodium is not produced in sufficient quantities on its own.
Another energy source, Carbohydrates is broken down by the enzyme amylase in digestion into glucose, providing the body with energy. Comprised of
amino acids, protein can function as an enzyme, an energy source and repair mechanism....show more content...
These key nutrients all play major roles in providing the body with energy and allowing it to perform daily functions. However, not all nutrients are not
equally beneficial. For example, unhealthy nutrients, such as saturated fat and trans fat, when taken in excess can lead to heart disease. Additionally,

Nutrition is the process by which chemicals from the environment are taken up in the body to provide the energy and nutrients which are needed to
keep us alive and healthy. Also providing the body with growth and repair to our muscles. Apart from water and oxygen, the needs of the body must
be met by the intake of foods. Our recommended daily amount (RDA) on calories is 2500 for men and 2000 for women to maintain a healthy diet.
Our bodies need nutrients to remain fit and healthy and are all found in the seven components of a normal diet. They consist of carbohydrates, protein,
fats, minerals, vitamins, water and fibre. Nutrients can be divided into two main groups; macronutrients and micronutrients....show more content...

total calorie intake.

Another nutrient is protein that we need to have in our diets. There are two main roles of protein, growth and repair of our muscles. Protein is made
up essential and nonessential amino acids, which are good for our health. Our bodies produce 20 amino acids, 12 non essential and 8 essential. For
our bodies to process protein properly the food we eat must contain the eight essential amino acids that are available only from dietary sources. There
are four types of protein, whey, soy, egg and casen.
Protein helps to maintain and replace the tissues in our bodies. Both children and adults need plenty of protein to grow and develop. The body uses
protein as a secondary source for energy. It forms the structure of every cell, tissues, internal organs, tendons, skin, hair and nails. Meat, eggs and dairy
products are considered complete proteins, but vegetables, beans and other plant products are considered incomplete proteins.
The recommended daily allowance for protein depends on the amount of energy intake and the person exercise levels. Women aged 19–70 on average
need to consume 46 grams of protein per day, while men aged 19–70 on average need to consume 56 grams of

[1] If I take a step further, I would say nutrition is the interpretation of the interaction between the nutrients in the food we consume and our growth,
health, diseases, et cetera. I hope you know nutrition goes beyond this, it also includes the absorption of foods, assimilation, the catabolism ( break
down of food), the anabolism ( build–up of bigger molecules for energy storage), even down to the excretion.

Nutrition is the science that investigates the relationship between physiological function and the essential elements of the foods we eat. According to
Rebecca J. Donatelle, in her book, "My Health," food provides "the chemicals we need for activity and body maintenance. Our bodies cannot

Speech On Diet And Nutrition
Anyone who is on a quest to live a long and healthy life should understands how important diet and nutrition are to achieving the physically healthy
body. Most of us delve deep into exercise and healthy eating but we gloss over the topic of nutrition. There is a distinction that should be made
between diet and nutrition, these two concepts are mutually exclusive. Dieting involves making sure we eat right, cut out the fats and the carbs, count
daily calorie intake in our quest to either lose weight or get back to a healthier size. Nutrition looks at the food we eat. It has to do with what our body
derives from what we feed it in terms of nutrients.
In order to understand the role of food in your life you need to be educated about the kinds of food you should be eating and those that you need to
steer clear of. The Cardinal Rule when it comes to food and fitness is that you need food to function, food is the fuel that will get you through your
workout, help push you to do more and be more, however not all food is good for you. Beyond...show more content...

form potent cancer causing cells knowns as nitrosamines. These cells are associated with cancers of the mouth, stomach, brain, bladder and esophagus.
6. Sodium Benzoate And Benzoic Acid
These two additives are commonly found in fruit juices, carbonated drinks to stop the growth of microorganism an in acidic medium. When sodium

Nutrition Analysis of my Diet Journal Essay
In my Diet Journal, I recorded all the food I ate over the weekend with the best accuracy I could attempt to do. But one of the factors that made my
food diary inaccurate was that I couldn't find every detail and percentage of fat, carbohydrates, and proteins in everything I ate. Also, all of the
amounts and servings were approximations, not exact amounts. I was able to record everything I ate, but accuracy may have been affected by
estimations and sources. The calorie intake I had over the three day period ranged from 1900–2500 calories. This was over my 1800 BMR, due to the
food choices and fluctuation in diet. I am 5'4'' tall and weigh 110 pounds. I also have a BMI of 18.88. On the American/Caucasian standard of BMI, I

Over the weekend my intake of calories ranged between 1900–2500 which is above the recommended amount. Even with my activity level taken into
account, this should have caused me to gain more weight than 10 pounds over a one year period. The time that my diet was recorded, I may have
eaten more than I usually do. For day 1, I ate an more fat than recommended, which was not over by much because it was 15%. On the second day I
ate 40% fat, which is over the 30% recommended. On the third day, my fat intake was 32%, which is once again, over the daily recommended. I
have been eating in the range of the recommended proteins and carbohydrates on the other days. My water intake 7 cups a day on average, but I
need to consume more fruits and vegetables. The errors in my food chart includes the data of the food and actual amount that I consumed. The
error in food data was caused by using different sources for data. Some sites had the same food but different data. I estimated my consumption as
close as I could on almost all of my foods. My data could be more accurate if I had used only one source for food data, and find the exact
measurements for what I ate. Also, my record of fruits and vegetables may not have been accurate because I do not usually eat them alone, so they
may have been in my food and I did not take account of them. On the third day, I ate Jack in the Box the whole day, which is a rare event to occur in
my diet. On the weekends I am less active, but

Student Nutrition Essay

  • 1. Student Nutrition Essay How does lifestyle influence student's eating habits? Do different lifestyles affect student's eating habits? The consumption of a healthy eating, weight control and general wellness are getting more significance throughout the daily living of the students. (Jackson, Berry, & Kennedy, 2009). Healthy diets, that contained low saturated fat and being rich in plant foods, have the advantages of increased longevity and lower percentages of chronic diseases. (Papadaki, Hondros, Scott, & Kapsokefalou, 2007). In general, part of the lifestyles and eating are started early in the student life. After the students have moved out from their comfort with their parents and changes in living arrangements, it will affect the outcomes of food choices,...show more content... The questions had included open–ended variables and Likert scale variables. The lifestyle factors that were included in the questions were place of residence; method of getting to campus; money spending on food per week; hours spent studying per week; travelling time to campus; hours spent on campus per day; physical activity pattern. Eating habits questions were also categorised into money spent on food each day; regularity to buy breakfast on campus per week; regularity to buy lunch on campus each week; regularity to buy supper on campus each week; number of times one packs a lunch during the week; how many serves of fast food is consumed per week; how many serves of caffeine per day; how many serves of water per day; how many serves of alcohol per week. Serving guidelines were provided. (Jackson et al., 2009). The questionnaire turned out to be a mixture of significant results from the lifestyle factors and eating habits. The study had shown eating habits were related to the following lifestyle factors: money spending on food; travelling time to campus; hours spent on campus. However, it had showed no relation on eating habits with hours spent studying. Moreover, students who walked to campus packed lunch less than those who drove to campus, but it mostly depends the way to get to campus and the money spending for food. Students who lived away from home consumed twice the amount of alcoholic drinks per week Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I have always been on the smaller side for my entire life and I have never had a doctor tell me my weight is an issue or I am malnourished. I use to play baseball but I quit a few years ago but I have started to play racquetball on occasion. I then started doing a work out program for a project in school I followed it for about a month. Seafood I did not eat any seafood I typically do not eat a lot of it. My source of omega 3 fatty acids come from beans. On day one I had zero percent omega 3's, on day two I had 51.8 percent, and on the third day I had 25 percent of my daily intake. Dietary Fiber My recommended DRI for fiber is 38g a day and on day one I consumed 20g of fiber, day two I had consumed 22g, and on day three I had taken in 22g again. I had fallen short on my daily fiber intake over the three days of my diet study. To increase my fiber I could eat some carrots for a snack in the afternoon or have an apple or orange with my breakfast in the mornings. I could also have some pinto beans with dinner to increase my fiber or I could eat oatmeal for breakfast and increase my fiber intake even more by putting chopped fruit in the oatmeal. Vitamins and Minerals On my first day I was low in just about all of my vitamins and minerals but on day two I had the correct levels of thiamin and I had eaten more iron, niacin, and vitamin B6 than my recommended DRI. On day three I was low in all vitamins and minerals except for iron which I had reached my DRI for iron. To increase my levels of folate I could have a cup of strawberries or a cup of raw cantaloupe melon. I could also have an ounce of peanuts and two raw spears of broccoli. • 3. Food and Nutrition Essay Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life. People deal with food every day, and food has been a part of life since the beginning of civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and how well our body functions. Without proper diet, our body cannot carry out the functions it needs to perform. Most people have some common knowledge on what is good and what is bad for the human body to consume. Fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains are some common items people think of when they think of healthy foods. However, it is not enough just to know what foods are good for your body, it is also important to understand why certain foods are...show more content... These include obesity, diabetes, and several heart conditions. Obesity is the term used for someone who qualifies as significantly overweight. A BMI (Body Mass Index) records weight in relation to height. A BMI of 25 is overweight and a BMI of 30 is obese. Obesity is not a disease in its self but it can lead to different health issues, some fatal. Obesity can be related to eighty percent of type two diabetes, seventy percent of cardiovascular disease, thirty percent to gall bladder surgeries, and forty two percent to breast and colon cancer. Unfortunately, obesity rates in people are rising rapidly. The United States alone had an obesity rate of twenty six percent in 2007. Some cases of obesity are gene related, but most other cases are a result of improper dieting and exercise among the individual ("Why Is Proper Nutrition Important?", Case Western Reserve University). Type II diabetes is another major effect from improper diet and nutrition. When someone is a type II diabetic, their body either produces too little of an amount of insulin, or their body's cells ignore the insulin. Insulin is important in helping your body use sugar for Kavanaugh 3 energy. When a person consumes food with sugar, the sugar is broken down into glucose. Glucose is used as an energy source for the body and is transported throughout your blood into the cells by insulin. Without proper amounts of insulin, your body is unable to use the glucose as Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Eight of these amino acids are "essential," meaning that they cannot be synthesized in the body even though they are necessary for life. Essential amino acids must be consumed from sources outside the body. Early in the twentieth century, studies of rats revealed that this rodent grows better using animal sources of protein. Knowing nothing of humans, which are harder to study because they live so much longer, grow to adulthood so much slower, and metabolize food so much slower, nutritional scientists applied what they had learned about rats to humans. For an average–size, seventy– kilogram man, this amounts to 70 x 1.6 = 112 grams. I understand that this is more than the officially recommended amount, however I believe the official recommendation to be low. Exceptions People who are highly active in sports are breaking down muscle through exercise and should eat more protein than the average person. If you are not highly active, and you think you simply feel better on a very high protein diet, you may have an enzymatic condition in which protein and fat is metabolized especially well in your body. I suggest that you consult your nutritional medicine doctor to determine the perfect type of diet for you. The liver breaks excess protein down into urea which is excreted through the kidneys. In circumstances of excessive protein intake, excessive quantities of urea pass through the kidneys. Urea is a diuretic, which means that water is made to exit along with urea, and this water loss means the simultaneous loss of minerals. The most important mineral lost is calcium.
