Clep Research Paper
The College–Level Examination ProgramВ® (CLEP) is a credit by examination program which allows the student to receive 3 to 12 college credits
for subjects that they already mastered. The cost for each exam is $80, which is a fraction of a college class. Each university has their own rules
on accepting CLEP. If a student fails a CLEP test, the test can be retaken 6 months later. DSST EXAM This exam can be taken to earn college
credits. Whether the student is in college, high school, or just learned a skill in the work force and desire to earn credit for it, this exam can help
earn credits for college. The cost is $90 and the student will earn 3 college credits. It is kept on file for over 30 years. Home schooled students can sign

Students with a "fixed" mindset believe that they are born with a specific set of talent and they are limited by those talents. They will fell that they
reached their expected ability, consequently stop trying. If the student has a "growth mindset", they believe that if a concept is challenging, it will
provide them an opportunity to learn a new concept. They also believe that there are no restrictions due to inherited ability. A similar notion is shown
on Geoff Colvin's book, Talent is overrated. He validates that success is a result of a focused effort to increase one's knowledge. Stating that hard work
can result in success and that inborn talent is only helpful when the student first start learning a new concept. A twin study, conducted by the National
Institutes of Health Public Access in 2007, shows that genes account for 32% to 45% of mathematical skill at a young age. Individual effort accounts
for 55% to 68%. A twin study measures the variation in conduct in a large group and estimates how much of the change is due to genetics, shared
environment, or unique

What I Learned In Freshman Composition
In Freshman Composition I learned what metacognition means, and how it applies to academic writing. Next I learned about textual evidence
and backing up your opinions with research. *I expect this class to help develop my writing skills, as well as find my voice in writing, all together I
expect this class to be challenging but rewarding. Therefore I have set a few goals for myself, my first goal is to step out of my comfort zone and
research topics I have never heard of before. My second goal is to not second–guess myself on my writing topics and/or choices. Furthermore I expect
great things to come from this

Personal Experience: English Composition Course
Focusing in self– evaluation to improve the learning process, help me to set goals and be aware of my own mistakes. When the English
Composition course started, I wanted to be able to express my thoughts and my ideas in an effective way. The continuation of my education was
very difficult, and I began to doubt myself when faced with the first couple of weeks. My first assignment was my most difficult assignment, and I
found myself having trouble sticking to a thesis, because I had so many ideas that I did not know how to organize, and that was the primary
purpose of taking this course, to learn to make my writings more organized. I choose three assignments out of the six, which were not only my
favorite assignments; they are all written in classical perspective. I prefer to write in classical perspective so I may get my personal opinion to a
specific audience. As I wrote each assignment I described my past experience as if I was speaking to a group telling my story.Writing with emotion as I
envisioned my past experiences and how I can get my audience to feel as I felt was my goal. I wrote in classical perspective in the interest of
writing my personality and voice, but it also shows how I perceive my audience. By changing the structure and organizing my thoughts I was able to
shape the overall character of my work. In all three assignments I wrote in first person point of view. I choose first person view so I can express a more

The Pros And Cons Of College Writing
Why do some college freshmen find it harder to write an essay in college than in high school?" College freshmen usually struggle with the transition
from high school writing to college writing. They do not know that the writing in college has a lot of differences. They also do not know that college
writing has different rules. These students get confused with these rules. There are many other reasons cause these struggles. There are different
styles in writing, for example: In college writing in college need to be done with at least two pages or more unlike in high school which takes four to
six paragraphs. As a first–year student and English is my second language, I am really struggling to write a paragraph, spending hours to finish...show

Methods I asked ten freshmen students in my class what are some of the difficulties do they believe they face when writing a college essay? It took them
five minutes to answer this question. As I suspected, some of the answers I receive has something in common. Some of the students' responses, the
difficulties they face to write an essay are grammatic errors, punctuations, sentence structure, and organization. Another key thing to remember is that
they have problem with wording the sentences correctly. So, the reader can understand the writing clearly. Likewise, many students have details and
ideas on paper. But sometimes don't know how to organize the writing process. Other student said that they have trouble to start the first paragraph
and and have a lack of motivation. I t takes them long time to start the essay. Furthermore, some answers were interested. Few students don't want to
stress their self. So, they never think to revise their final draft. One of the problems I receive is college vocabulary. One student response that his mind
stuck on high school vocabulary and don't know how to use college level vocabulary which make his essay weak. Similarly, I am really struggling with
grammar error, sentence structure, run on–sentence, and organization. One other hand, I interviewed three junior college. The interview last is fifteen
minutes each student. I start with Ms. Adam.

Reflective Essay Composition
I thought this was going to was going to be easy. With my past experiences of always succeeding, I thought I was going to flourish without any
struggle––I was wrong. Composition I was a whole new entity than what I have ever experienced with school. I was so used to always getting the
grades I wanted, with hard work of course, but not here. Even with the hard work I put in, it was very difficult to keep up with my grade because
of the assignments and essays; however, with that being said, the challenges I found in Composition I have made me realize all I have learned
this semester, which was more than any English class I have taken. They can either make or break your grade: mechanical errors. Mechanical
errors are tricky things. I always question myself and think, "Is this correct?," and sometimes I take a random guess, hoping it will work in my
favor. The "TCC Guidebook" has stated that "essays with mechanical errors that affect clear communication will result in a lowered grade," and
with having five or more major mechanical errors within an essay or summary resulting in an F; therefore, I can not afford to take that random
guess. I have learned to go through each sentence in every paragraph, carefully evaluating and improving any mechanical errors. Critiques on my
essays from the discussions have also helped me understand from other classmates what I may have done wrong and why it needs to be fixed.
Furthermore, what has helped me the most was the grammar exam and its answer key and the textbook, Everyone's an Author. When I did the
grammar exam and graded it, it taught me that I can not just skim over my essay to find mechanical errors, and that I would have to take my time with
each sentence. If I did not understand why I got something wrong on the exam, links were given on the answer key that went more in depth about why
something was correct or incorrect. Also, the textbook's chapter "How to Write Good Sentences," gives many examples and explanations on how to fix
mechanical errors when it comes to different types of sentences, punctuation, and parts of speech. Looking for mechanical errors within my own work
was difficult at first, but then I practiced and spent more time going through each sentence.

This semester I learned many new things in my English 1301 class. I took this class last year but I had to drop it because I didn't have a professor
explaining the work to me. And I really didn't understand what I was doing. At first, I was scared to take this class. During my high school years I
wasn't that good of a writer. I thought this composition class was going to be hard since I sometimes thought it was hard in high school. My writing
experience was good and sometimes bad. This semester in the composition class I had many writing strengths and weaknesses. These strengths and
weaknesses is what helped me learn the errors I was making while writing essays this semester. My first writing weakness was deciding what to write
about. I...show more content...
I was really happy that I didn't have trouble filling up those pages. This contributed to my essay writing because it showed me that if I don't give and
try my best I will be able to do it. It also showed me to always think positive, if I'm always thinking of negative stuff I won't be able to set my mind
free and try my best in the stuff I do. Another strength I had was finding the symbols in the short story ВЁThe LotteryВЁ. When I first read it I
didn't find any symbols. After Mrs. Philpott gave us the lesson on symbolism in literature I found many symbols. I also saw how those symbols
give the readers clues so we could get a clue of how the ending is. I won't forget about this lesson and when I read books I'm going to pay close
attention to the words. If I pay attention to that maybe I will get a taste of how the ending is going to be. This was one of the lesson I enjoyed the
most. This contributed because this is something I'm going to know for the rest of my life. The third writing strength I had was that I didn't have
trouble with the quotes. We had a lesson over how we had to add the quotes on the essay. That lesson helped my mind refresh from what I had
learned during high school. I wasn't completely lost on this, but had to pay attention. I was a little scared because it said that if I plagiarized I would
get a zero and possibly fail the semester. I personally think that we the writers don't really try to plagiarize. The only thing

What I Learned In Composition Class
Let's be honest, I'm not the best writer. I have had to write paper after paper for about 12 weeks. Writing isn't my strong suit and I don't think it will
ever be a strong suit of mine. During the 12 weeks of composition class, I have seen improvement in my writing. Many people don't like writing but
writing skills are needed in life. I'm a junior in high school and if I want to get scholarships for college, I'm going to need to write essays. Whether I
become a plumber or a CEO I need writing skills. I thought that the class was fun because I knew some of my classmates. My teacher was pretty
cool as well. I enjoyed being able to pick my own topics for the papers that I wrote. It was a lot easier writing about something that I was genuinely
was interested in, rather than a topic that was chosen for me. I enjoyed having a minimal amount of guidelines to follow. It was nice because I could
freely write my paper. I was never worried about the exact structure of the paper. It helped me broaden my horizon, when it came to writing....show

Firzlaff was very helpful in providing real life examples and topics to write about. She provided insight and helpful comments to make my writing
better. I could tell that she was interested in helping me become a better writer. She always did her best to help me reach my full potential. She was
also very understanding and kind, I didn't feel uncomfortable asking Mrs. Firzlaff questions. I find that I don't like asking questions in my other
classes because I don't want to "sound dumb", but I never felt that way in Mrs. Firzlaff's class.
In conclusion, I recommend taking a composition class because it gave me confidence in my writing skills. I really dislike writing but this class has
helped me improve. After taking this class you'll think that writing papers are a piece of

My Experience Of English Composition
My experience in English Composition 1 this semester has been a tough one. From day one, I knew that this class was not going to be a "walk in
the park", so I tried to prepare myself for what was to come. Throughout this semester, I have recognized my strengths as well as my weaknesses , and
I still continue to struggle with a lot of them to this day. Through it all, this class has been a journey that has taught me a lot. When we first began to
write our descriptive essay, my confidence level was sky high. I thought that my writing skills were fairly decent, and I was not worried about having
too many mistakes. However, after seeing the grade that I made, my confidence level dropped ,and I was not so self–assured like before. With the help
of my instructor, I was able to recognize my mistakes first off. The major problem in my descriptive piece was grammatical and mechanical errors
such as subject/verb agreement and incorrect usage of commas. Throughout my entire paper, these were the most common mistakes found. I went
home, analyzed my paper, and found some websites on the Internet that helped me correct these issues. As well as she found things in my paper that
were incorrect, she also pointed out my strengths. She applauded me on my excellent descriptive details, sentence structure, and vocabulary usage and
noted that I did a great job describing the food using sensory and vivid details that made my paper cohesive. Our next big paper was the research
piece. Not once

Reflection Paper About English Composition
English Composition I has developed my style of writing and my skills analyzing and researching topics to write a piece about a topic. Throughout
the course, I got better at analyzing articles and pieces to get the meaning of the topic. With that improved skill I was more able to use the
information given from the text and install it into my essays, with proper citation if needed. Before taking the English Composition course, I was not
one to organize my essays in an ordeal order to clearly state the point of the work. Now with taking the course, I have learned to organize my essays,
examine research for a topic, and develop an essay with proper mechanics, and revising skills. In writing my personal, review, analytical, and cultural

I then described my life and who I was. After describing this, I explained my experiences in confronting racism. The point of the essay was to state
that racism is still alive and can be present anywhere. After writing this essay, I learned that my mechanics and style was not where it should be. Even
with the revisions Mr. Heldenfels made in the draft, I still made mistakes with mechanics and tense shits. I had written comma splice and has several
spelling mistakes. I looked to improve my mechanics after writing this essay.
With writing my review essay of A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie's album The Bigger Artist. The essay took some time to write because of the research I
needed to gather. In this essay I used more citations and quotes. I made mistakes the mechanics in writing the quotes. This was the first essay in which
we used sources, so it was challenging to create my own ideas but I was able to do it. Writing this essay improved my knowledge of mechanics in
citations and quotations.
Through taking the course, I learned to utilizes sources in a more efficient way. In writing my analytical essay of Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A
Butterfly I had to use ten sources. All the sources I used provided different information, some provided more than others, but all sources were needed
to complete the essay. In collecting all the information for the essay, I had to research who created the source and decide if it was credible. This essay

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP)
The CLEP Program The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a group of standardized tests created and administered by College Board.
Currently, the program awards college credit at over 2,900 U.S. colleges and universities for demonstrating achievement in a subject by means of a
computer–based exam. By earning a satisfactory score, you may earn the same amount of credit as a student who successfully completed the same
course at that school. All CLEP exams are administered by computer and are an hour and a half long. The exam consists mostly of multiple–choice
questions (some exams have fill–in–the–blank questions), except for English Composition with Essay and College Composition. How CLEP Works?

You don't want to find out after you have earned your CLEP credits that your college won't acknowledge them on your academic record. The easiest
and most effective way to find this information is to call up or visit the college you are planning to attend and check what their policy on the CLEP
exam is. If you have already received your school's catalog or found it on their web site, then the policy is sometime listed there but confirming
directly with them is always a good idea. Some colleges place a limit on the credits you can earn through CLEP, while other institutions may grant you
exemption but no credit toward your

The Importance Of Registering CLEP
Hello, Thomas.
I reviewed your AP credits to ensure you are not scheduled for any classes you already have credit for.
Regarding the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exam, you can take the CLEP for College Algebra if you feel confident that you would
pass the exam. This is something we could meet about and discuss during the semester. There are some very specific requirements regarding CLEP.
Permission from the academic chairperson prior to registering for any CLEP is required. There is registration paperwork that would need to be
completed first if permission is granted. Here is the link to the CLEP information found on the Point Park University website http://www.pointpark.edu

Reflective Essay on College Writing
Reflective Essay on College Writing
This semester was my very first semester as a college student. Being the first, it was probably the semester I would learn the most in. I learned the
expectations for writing that I will have to live up to for the next four years of my college career. Though my high school teachers were usually
demanding because I was in the Honors English section throughout high school, writing in college has still ?raised the bar? for me. Also, in high
school, we would have weeks to pick a topic, create a thesis, outline the paper, write the paper, and then revise the paper. In college, the timerestraints
are not quite as lenient. I?ve had to learn to manage my time and be more productive with what free moments I...show more content...
I definitely learned a great deal from our discussions about this book. I really did not like it at all until the class sat down and analyzed the many
levels Conrad addressed in his story. I thought the endless paradoxes in the book, once brought to light, were actually very interesting. My
favorite section, however, was the poetry unit. I really enjoyed the poem ?The Blues? by Billy Collins the most because of my respect for music. I
think Collins really makes a point in his poem about just how important music is and how it allows people who are very different to connect on
many levels. I also loved ?Love Calls Us to the Things of This World? by Richard Wilbur. The imagery in this poem was absolutely amazing, and I
adored how he made the ordinary things seem mystical with his words. I loved how the laundry became angels. If only we could look at the world
from that point of view more often, it would be a much happier place.
The criticisms in college have even been somewhat enjoyable and interesting to read. I think I began to like the stories and poems we read in class
more and more as we discussed them and looked at different authorities? opinions. I found a lot of the information in the databases very useful. For the
Antigone research project, the JSTORS database gave me hundreds of articles dealing with my topic. I could narrow down what I was looking for and

My Experience In A College Class
"Welcome Class to Composition one." Those words were voiced by my professor, Mrs. Robinson, on the first day of school. Initially, I thought to
myself, do I even belong in this college course class. Before school had even begun, the stress over the summer about my English skills was eating
me alive. Why? Well, in my past English classes I received A's on all of my essays, but this college class did not seem so easy. Also, I was always
fascinated by all the arts and sciences, but English never struck interest in me. I never thought that I could write any decent essays. The reason I
insecure about my writing skills was because of the ACT. Since the ACT is the talk about how smart an individual is, my ACT score was not very high.
As the course continued, the first essay approached quickly. I remember being stressed about this essay because of my writing insecurities. Although
I managed to acquire a decent grade, I promised myself to strive to make myself a better writer. I started to read Norton Field Guide to Writing
handbook also known as the yellow book, and slowly but surely started to develop knowledge of good writing skills and tips to improve my essays.
This allowed me to grow as a writer and slowly my insecurities started to dwindle, and I began to gain confidence in myself. I never would've thought
that the next time I took the ACT that my English score would be my highest. When getting my score back and realizing that I had improved so much,
I began to wonder how I

Clep Reflection
In the fall of 2015, I planned to CLEP out of American Government to receive my last credit for graduation. However, I did not successfully pass
the test to receive graduation availability status. After the news of the test, during a hectic time in my life, I missed the deadline to apply for
graduation for the spring of 2016. I did not take that class during the fall due to my written word to the board that I was CLEPING out of the class
to receive a finical wave for my 30/40 hour. Due to my integrally by following through with my initial intentions of following through with taking the
CLEP and not taking the class during the fall of 2015, I believe I am justified to for this waiver to be processed and grant my graduating in the spring
of 2016.

Walking inside the typical composition class, one can expect to see the students crafting the five–paragraph essay or working on a persuasive piece as
they try to argue they side of an in–class debate. Composition classes do not only work on a studentГs writing, they also get the students to think
through their writing (at least the good ones do). There is a certain well–accepted style to teaching writing in the traditional composition class, and it
works very well for many students and teachers. However, should the line of comfort be crossed, and if so, how? Should composition instructors grab
a hold of a different writing style, making it the focal point of their pedagogies in their writing classes? More importantly, if they do, what...show more

Of course, they are well–suited to teaching writing of any kind to their students, but could they not be more effective in doing so if they had the
freedom to teach the typical Г¬five–paragraphГ® or Г¬persuasiveГ® as a piece of creative writing/literature?
While BishopГs work on the topic of using creative writing in the composition classroom is crucial to any understanding of the argument, Deborah
Dean, in Г¬Muddying Boundaries: Mixing Genres with Five Paragraphs,Г® also extensively explores the question I just raised, and does so by
bringing in the concept of Г¬genre theory.Г® In an explanation of Г¬genre theory,Г® Dean states that, Г¬one way to make writing interesting is to
create the experiences of the genre in the mind of the reader and then tweak one or twoГ® (Dean 53). Using the example of a childrenГs fairy tale to
illustrate her point, Dean goes on to say that genre theory is a bit controversial, saying that Г¬if applied without thought, it could mean a return to a
focus on forms and product over processГ® (Dean 53). Proponents of genre theory, however, feel just the opposite. To them, genre theory is Г¬a more
logical way to empower our students, to give them the ability to write in ways that will help them be successful in the social situations in which theyГll
find themselvesГ® (Dean 53).
Application of genre theory in the classroom Г¬is a process because it asks students to analyze the social context

Clep Research Paper

  • 1. Clep Research Paper The College–Level Examination ProgramВ® (CLEP) is a credit by examination program which allows the student to receive 3 to 12 college credits for subjects that they already mastered. The cost for each exam is $80, which is a fraction of a college class. Each university has their own rules on accepting CLEP. If a student fails a CLEP test, the test can be retaken 6 months later. DSST EXAM This exam can be taken to earn college credits. Whether the student is in college, high school, or just learned a skill in the work force and desire to earn credit for it, this exam can help earn credits for college. The cost is $90 and the student will earn 3 college credits. It is kept on file for over 30 years. Home schooled students can sign up for...show more content... Students with a "fixed" mindset believe that they are born with a specific set of talent and they are limited by those talents. They will fell that they reached their expected ability, consequently stop trying. If the student has a "growth mindset", they believe that if a concept is challenging, it will provide them an opportunity to learn a new concept. They also believe that there are no restrictions due to inherited ability. A similar notion is shown on Geoff Colvin's book, Talent is overrated. He validates that success is a result of a focused effort to increase one's knowledge. Stating that hard work can result in success and that inborn talent is only helpful when the student first start learning a new concept. A twin study, conducted by the National Institutes of Health Public Access in 2007, shows that genes account for 32% to 45% of mathematical skill at a young age. Individual effort accounts for 55% to 68%. A twin study measures the variation in conduct in a large group and estimates how much of the change is due to genetics, shared environment, or unique Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. What I Learned In Freshman Composition In Freshman Composition I learned what metacognition means, and how it applies to academic writing. Next I learned about textual evidence and backing up your opinions with research. *I expect this class to help develop my writing skills, as well as find my voice in writing, all together I expect this class to be challenging but rewarding. Therefore I have set a few goals for myself, my first goal is to step out of my comfort zone and research topics I have never heard of before. My second goal is to not second–guess myself on my writing topics and/or choices. Furthermore I expect great things to come from this Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Personal Experience: English Composition Course Focusing in self– evaluation to improve the learning process, help me to set goals and be aware of my own mistakes. When the English Composition course started, I wanted to be able to express my thoughts and my ideas in an effective way. The continuation of my education was very difficult, and I began to doubt myself when faced with the first couple of weeks. My first assignment was my most difficult assignment, and I found myself having trouble sticking to a thesis, because I had so many ideas that I did not know how to organize, and that was the primary purpose of taking this course, to learn to make my writings more organized. I choose three assignments out of the six, which were not only my favorite assignments; they are all written in classical perspective. I prefer to write in classical perspective so I may get my personal opinion to a specific audience. As I wrote each assignment I described my past experience as if I was speaking to a group telling my story.Writing with emotion as I envisioned my past experiences and how I can get my audience to feel as I felt was my goal. I wrote in classical perspective in the interest of writing my personality and voice, but it also shows how I perceive my audience. By changing the structure and organizing my thoughts I was able to shape the overall character of my work. In all three assignments I wrote in first person point of view. I choose first person view so I can express a more personal, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. The Pros And Cons Of College Writing Why do some college freshmen find it harder to write an essay in college than in high school?" College freshmen usually struggle with the transition from high school writing to college writing. They do not know that the writing in college has a lot of differences. They also do not know that college writing has different rules. These students get confused with these rules. There are many other reasons cause these struggles. There are different styles in writing, for example: In college writing in college need to be done with at least two pages or more unlike in high school which takes four to six paragraphs. As a first–year student and English is my second language, I am really struggling to write a paragraph, spending hours to finish...show more content... Methods I asked ten freshmen students in my class what are some of the difficulties do they believe they face when writing a college essay? It took them five minutes to answer this question. As I suspected, some of the answers I receive has something in common. Some of the students' responses, the difficulties they face to write an essay are grammatic errors, punctuations, sentence structure, and organization. Another key thing to remember is that they have problem with wording the sentences correctly. So, the reader can understand the writing clearly. Likewise, many students have details and ideas on paper. But sometimes don't know how to organize the writing process. Other student said that they have trouble to start the first paragraph and and have a lack of motivation. I t takes them long time to start the essay. Furthermore, some answers were interested. Few students don't want to stress their self. So, they never think to revise their final draft. One of the problems I receive is college vocabulary. One student response that his mind stuck on high school vocabulary and don't know how to use college level vocabulary which make his essay weak. Similarly, I am really struggling with grammar error, sentence structure, run on–sentence, and organization. One other hand, I interviewed three junior college. The interview last is fifteen minutes each student. I start with Ms. Adam. Interviewer. What were some difficulties you Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Reflective Essay Composition I thought this was going to was going to be easy. With my past experiences of always succeeding, I thought I was going to flourish without any struggle––I was wrong. Composition I was a whole new entity than what I have ever experienced with school. I was so used to always getting the grades I wanted, with hard work of course, but not here. Even with the hard work I put in, it was very difficult to keep up with my grade because of the assignments and essays; however, with that being said, the challenges I found in Composition I have made me realize all I have learned this semester, which was more than any English class I have taken. They can either make or break your grade: mechanical errors. Mechanical errors are tricky things. I always question myself and think, "Is this correct?," and sometimes I take a random guess, hoping it will work in my favor. The "TCC Guidebook" has stated that "essays with mechanical errors that affect clear communication will result in a lowered grade," and with having five or more major mechanical errors within an essay or summary resulting in an F; therefore, I can not afford to take that random guess. I have learned to go through each sentence in every paragraph, carefully evaluating and improving any mechanical errors. Critiques on my essays from the discussions have also helped me understand from other classmates what I may have done wrong and why it needs to be fixed. Furthermore, what has helped me the most was the grammar exam and its answer key and the textbook, Everyone's an Author. When I did the grammar exam and graded it, it taught me that I can not just skim over my essay to find mechanical errors, and that I would have to take my time with each sentence. If I did not understand why I got something wrong on the exam, links were given on the answer key that went more in depth about why something was correct or incorrect. Also, the textbook's chapter "How to Write Good Sentences," gives many examples and explanations on how to fix mechanical errors when it comes to different types of sentences, punctuation, and parts of speech. Looking for mechanical errors within my own work was difficult at first, but then I practiced and spent more time going through each sentence. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. This semester I learned many new things in my English 1301 class. I took this class last year but I had to drop it because I didn't have a professor explaining the work to me. And I really didn't understand what I was doing. At first, I was scared to take this class. During my high school years I wasn't that good of a writer. I thought this composition class was going to be hard since I sometimes thought it was hard in high school. My writing experience was good and sometimes bad. This semester in the composition class I had many writing strengths and weaknesses. These strengths and weaknesses is what helped me learn the errors I was making while writing essays this semester. My first writing weakness was deciding what to write about. I...show more content... I was really happy that I didn't have trouble filling up those pages. This contributed to my essay writing because it showed me that if I don't give and try my best I will be able to do it. It also showed me to always think positive, if I'm always thinking of negative stuff I won't be able to set my mind free and try my best in the stuff I do. Another strength I had was finding the symbols in the short story ВЁThe LotteryВЁ. When I first read it I didn't find any symbols. After Mrs. Philpott gave us the lesson on symbolism in literature I found many symbols. I also saw how those symbols give the readers clues so we could get a clue of how the ending is. I won't forget about this lesson and when I read books I'm going to pay close attention to the words. If I pay attention to that maybe I will get a taste of how the ending is going to be. This was one of the lesson I enjoyed the most. This contributed because this is something I'm going to know for the rest of my life. The third writing strength I had was that I didn't have trouble with the quotes. We had a lesson over how we had to add the quotes on the essay. That lesson helped my mind refresh from what I had learned during high school. I wasn't completely lost on this, but had to pay attention. I was a little scared because it said that if I plagiarized I would get a zero and possibly fail the semester. I personally think that we the writers don't really try to plagiarize. The only thing Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. What I Learned In Composition Class Let's be honest, I'm not the best writer. I have had to write paper after paper for about 12 weeks. Writing isn't my strong suit and I don't think it will ever be a strong suit of mine. During the 12 weeks of composition class, I have seen improvement in my writing. Many people don't like writing but writing skills are needed in life. I'm a junior in high school and if I want to get scholarships for college, I'm going to need to write essays. Whether I become a plumber or a CEO I need writing skills. I thought that the class was fun because I knew some of my classmates. My teacher was pretty cool as well. I enjoyed being able to pick my own topics for the papers that I wrote. It was a lot easier writing about something that I was genuinely was interested in, rather than a topic that was chosen for me. I enjoyed having a minimal amount of guidelines to follow. It was nice because I could freely write my paper. I was never worried about the exact structure of the paper. It helped me broaden my horizon, when it came to writing....show more content... Firzlaff was very helpful in providing real life examples and topics to write about. She provided insight and helpful comments to make my writing better. I could tell that she was interested in helping me become a better writer. She always did her best to help me reach my full potential. She was also very understanding and kind, I didn't feel uncomfortable asking Mrs. Firzlaff questions. I find that I don't like asking questions in my other classes because I don't want to "sound dumb", but I never felt that way in Mrs. Firzlaff's class. In conclusion, I recommend taking a composition class because it gave me confidence in my writing skills. I really dislike writing but this class has helped me improve. After taking this class you'll think that writing papers are a piece of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. My Experience Of English Composition My experience in English Composition 1 this semester has been a tough one. From day one, I knew that this class was not going to be a "walk in the park", so I tried to prepare myself for what was to come. Throughout this semester, I have recognized my strengths as well as my weaknesses , and I still continue to struggle with a lot of them to this day. Through it all, this class has been a journey that has taught me a lot. When we first began to write our descriptive essay, my confidence level was sky high. I thought that my writing skills were fairly decent, and I was not worried about having too many mistakes. However, after seeing the grade that I made, my confidence level dropped ,and I was not so self–assured like before. With the help of my instructor, I was able to recognize my mistakes first off. The major problem in my descriptive piece was grammatical and mechanical errors such as subject/verb agreement and incorrect usage of commas. Throughout my entire paper, these were the most common mistakes found. I went home, analyzed my paper, and found some websites on the Internet that helped me correct these issues. As well as she found things in my paper that were incorrect, she also pointed out my strengths. She applauded me on my excellent descriptive details, sentence structure, and vocabulary usage and noted that I did a great job describing the food using sensory and vivid details that made my paper cohesive. Our next big paper was the research piece. Not once Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 10. Reflection Paper About English Composition English Composition I has developed my style of writing and my skills analyzing and researching topics to write a piece about a topic. Throughout the course, I got better at analyzing articles and pieces to get the meaning of the topic. With that improved skill I was more able to use the information given from the text and install it into my essays, with proper citation if needed. Before taking the English Composition course, I was not one to organize my essays in an ordeal order to clearly state the point of the work. Now with taking the course, I have learned to organize my essays, examine research for a topic, and develop an essay with proper mechanics, and revising skills. In writing my personal, review, analytical, and cultural ...show more content... I then described my life and who I was. After describing this, I explained my experiences in confronting racism. The point of the essay was to state that racism is still alive and can be present anywhere. After writing this essay, I learned that my mechanics and style was not where it should be. Even with the revisions Mr. Heldenfels made in the draft, I still made mistakes with mechanics and tense shits. I had written comma splice and has several spelling mistakes. I looked to improve my mechanics after writing this essay. With writing my review essay of A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie's album The Bigger Artist. The essay took some time to write because of the research I needed to gather. In this essay I used more citations and quotes. I made mistakes the mechanics in writing the quotes. This was the first essay in which we used sources, so it was challenging to create my own ideas but I was able to do it. Writing this essay improved my knowledge of mechanics in citations and quotations. Through taking the course, I learned to utilizes sources in a more efficient way. In writing my analytical essay of Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly I had to use ten sources. All the sources I used provided different information, some provided more than others, but all sources were needed to complete the essay. In collecting all the information for the essay, I had to research who created the source and decide if it was credible. Currently, the program awards college credit at over 2,900 U.S. colleges and universities for demonstrating achievement in a subject by means of a computer–based exam. By earning a satisfactory score, you may earn the same amount of credit as a student who successfully completed the same course at that school. All CLEP exams are administered by computer and are an hour and a half long. If you have already received your school's catalog or found it on their web site, then the policy is sometime listed there but confirming directly with them is always a good idea. Regarding the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) exam, you can take the CLEP for College Algebra if you feel confident that you would pass the exam. This is something we could meet about and discuss during the semester. There are some very specific requirements regarding CLEP. Permission from the academic chairperson prior to registering for any CLEP is required. There is registration paperwork that would need to be completed first if permission is granted. • 13. Reflective Essay on College Writing Reflective Essay on College Writing This semester was my very first semester as a college student. Being the first, it was probably the semester I would learn the most in. I learned the expectations for writing that I will have to live up to for the next four years of my college career. Though my high school teachers were usually demanding because I was in the Honors English section throughout high school, writing in college has still ?raised the bar? for me. Also, in high school, we would have weeks to pick a topic, create a thesis, outline the paper, write the paper, and then revise the paper. In college, the timerestraints are not quite as lenient. I really did not like it at all until the class sat down and analyzed the many levels Conrad addressed in his story. I thought the endless paradoxes in the book, once brought to light, were actually very interesting. My favorite section, however, was the poetry unit. I really enjoyed the poem ?The Blues? by Billy Collins the most because of my respect for music. I think Collins really makes a point in his poem about just how important music is and how it allows people who are very different to connect on many levels. I also loved ?Love Calls Us to the Things of This World? by Richard Wilbur. The imagery in this poem was absolutely amazing, and I adored how he made the ordinary things seem mystical with his words. I loved how the laundry became angels. If only we could look at the world from that point of view more often, it would be a much happier place. The criticisms in college have even been somewhat enjoyable and interesting to read. I think I began to like the stories and poems we read in class more and more as we discussed them and looked at different authorities? opinions. I found a lot of the information in the databases very useful. For the Antigone research project, the JSTORS database gave me hundreds of articles dealing with my topic. I could narrow down what I was looking for and find numerous Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 17. My Experience In A College Class "Welcome Class to Composition one." Those words were voiced by my professor, Mrs. Robinson, on the first day of school. Initially, I thought to myself, do I even belong in this college course class. Before school had even begun, the stress over the summer about my English skills was eating me alive. Why? Well, in my past English classes I received A's on all of my essays, but this college class did not seem so easy. Also, I was always fascinated by all the arts and sciences, but English never struck interest in me. I never thought that I could write any decent essays. The reason I insecure about my writing skills was because of the ACT. Since the ACT is the talk about how smart an individual is, my ACT score was not very high. As the course continued, the first essay approached quickly. I remember being stressed about this essay because of my writing insecurities. Although I managed to acquire a decent grade, I promised myself to strive to make myself a better writer. I started to read Norton Field Guide to Writing handbook also known as the yellow book, and slowly but surely started to develop knowledge of good writing skills and tips to improve my essays. This allowed me to grow as a writer and slowly my insecurities started to dwindle, and I began to gain confidence in myself. I never would've thought that the next time I took the ACT that my English score would be my highest. When getting my score back and realizing that I had improved so much, I began to wonder how I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. My Non-Modular English CLEP Exam (GPA) Good afternoon, I'm hoping to have my Eng 102 requirement waived. I've attached a screen snip of proof of my non–modular English Comp CLEP exam, as well as my transcript which shows my 3.8 GPA. I'm not sure if any of the following matters, but in case it might, I was awarded an NSF–funded summer research fellowship at Boston University (Pro–Stars), where I worked on a Y463M mutation of diheme enzyme bthA from Burkholderia thailandensis; there, I did several presentations and papers relevant to that project. I was on the Dean's List and graduated with Highest Honors; I have been awarded the Fostor Furcolo, Barry Goldwater, and Jack Kent Cooke scholarships for my time at UMB (many of which required a Research Statement for consideration). • 19. Clep Reflection In the fall of 2015, I planned to CLEP out of American Government to receive my last credit for graduation. However, I did not successfully pass the test to receive graduation availability status. After the news of the test, during a hectic time in my life, I missed the deadline to apply for graduation for the spring of 2016. I did not take that class during the fall due to my written word to the board that I was CLEPING out of the class to receive a finical wave for my 30/40 hour. Due to my integrally by following through with my initial intentions of following through with taking the CLEP and not taking the class during the fall of 2015, I believe I am justified to for this waiver to be processed and grant my graduating in the spring of 2016. • 20. Walking inside the typical composition class, one can expect to see the students crafting the five–paragraph essay or working on a persuasive piece as they try to argue they side of an in–class debate. Composition classes do not only work on a studentГs writing, they also get the students to think through their writing (at least the good ones do). There is a certain well–accepted style to teaching writing in the traditional composition class, and it works very well for many students and teachers. However, should the line of comfort be crossed, and if so, how? Should composition instructors grab a hold of a different writing style, making it the focal point of their pedagogies in their writing classes? More importantly, if they do, what...show more content... Of course, they are well–suited to teaching writing of any kind to their students, but could they not be more effective in doing so if they had the freedom to teach the typical Г¬five–paragraphГ® or Г¬persuasiveГ® as a piece of creative writing/literature? While BishopГs work on the topic of using creative writing in the composition classroom is crucial to any understanding of the argument, Deborah Dean, in Г¬Muddying Boundaries: Mixing Genres with Five Paragraphs,Г® also extensively explores the question I just raised, and does so by bringing in the concept of Г¬genre theory.Г® In an explanation of Г¬genre theory,Г® Dean states that, Г¬one way to make writing interesting is to create the experiences of the genre in the mind of the reader and then tweak one or twoГ® (Dean 53). Using the example of a childrenГs fairy tale to illustrate her point, Dean goes on to say that genre theory is a bit controversial, saying that Г¬if applied without thought, it could mean a return to a focus on forms and product over processГ® (Dean 53). Proponents of genre theory, however, feel just the opposite. To them, genre theory is Г¬a more logical way to empower our students, to give them the ability to write in ways that will help them be successful in the social situations in which theyГll find themselvesГ® (Dean 53). Application of genre theory in the classroom Г¬is a process because it asks students to analyze the social context Get more content on HelpWriting.net
