INTRO
Among the many challenges facing a probationary firefighter is the task of brewing
gallons of coffee at all hours of the day. Dan joined the fire service in 1974 long before
Keurig simplified the task. He learned to love the brew in the three years he worked for
the City of Manhattan, Kansas.
BIO
Since 1995 Dan has led four magazine publishing companies. His introduction to the
food and beverage industry came as CEO and Publisher of Patterson’s Beverage Journal
and the Beverage Bulletin. In 2002, following the USDA’s adoption of National Organic
Program certification rules, Dan launched the Certified Organic Food Directory. This 500-
page directory contained listings for every organic supplier in the U.S. and Canada. The
success of the directory financed the launch of Natural Food Network and magazine in
May 2005. In 2007 the company was sold to M2Media360. Dan joined M2Media360 as
NFN’s editor-in-chief in November 2007. The following year he was also named editor-
in-chief of Specialty Coffee Retailer.
