Opportunistic IoT service: definition
interface for entity’s functionalities that allows establishing, under specific constraints and
pre/post-conditions, a temporary and localized (in other terms, confined in the space and
in the time) usage relationship between the service provider and the service consumer(s).
The service provisioning impacts the service provider, the service consumer(s) (and, in
some case, third parties indirectly involved to the service provisioning) by modifying their
properties and/or their status.

• Problem: limitations affecting IoT service modeling hinder the subsequent
phases of service automatic verification, execution and simulation.
 Preliminary contributions: definition of (i) Opportunistic IoT service
definition and (ii) a full-fledged approach jointly exploiting descriptive
(metamodel-based) and operational (DES-based) IoT service models.
 Future work: implementation of descriptive and operational IoT service
models within an integrated framework for performing service automatic
verification, execution and simulation.
