2. Background of the research
• Queer is an umbrella term for a variety of sexual identities. , this term is used by various
heterosexual identities and genders, such as LGBT. Queer is also used to express the
terms gender and sexuality which tend to change from time to time or for each individual
• There are some essays that discuss about this movie. So that it is inspired the researcher
to analyze this same movie with different perspective.
• This film is worthy to analyze for the following reasons: This film, which has an LGBT
theme, is pro and con in some circles of society. Interestingly, the film CICADA was
developed with the support of the TFI Tribeca Film Institute Network.
• Reasons for taking the research title, this film, which has an LGBT theme, is pro and con
in some circle of society.
INTRODUCTION
3. Objective of the Research
• This research aims to analyze and reveals that every sign in the film has
their own meaning and to know what is being represented by the signs.
Even also how the ideas of LGBT represented by the signs.

analysis, the researcher uses Pierce semiotic theory, the researcher
captures some pictures and identify the signs in every picture to analyze the
ideology that is being delivered by the movies.
4. Significance of the Research
This research aims to provide a clear picture and awareness to the community
about life, so that they stay on the right track based on heteronormativity.
Homosexual ideas are banned for several reasons. Homosexuality is not good
for human health, the idea is also prohibited by the constitution, and it is
rejected by most religions. However, heterosexual society must respect and not
judge and blame them as LGBT people
5. Limitation of the Research
This research will focus on the main characters who show queer qualities, using
semiotic theory which is supported by queer theory and the concept of
cinematography
Organization of the Research Report
This research is structured as an offer in understanding the issues of gender,
homosexuality, and identity, especially about homosexual men. In addition, this
research is also expected to be useful for future readers and researchers, as a
reference in understanding gender and homosexuality issues in various countries.
6. Regarding the background of the research problem, the
focus will be on Ben's experience from the beginning to
the end of the movie which allegedly shows Queer. In
detail, the problem is formulated into the following

using the Semiotic Theory by Charles Sanders Pierce.
3. Analyzing the results of sign interpretation using Piercean theory
with apply Queer Theory.
4. Concluding data analysis based on research questions.
