3. WHAT'S THE
PROBLEM?
Women are more likely than men to report that they dread
negotiations- men 8X more likely to negotiate a starting salary
If they do negotiate, they ask for 30% less on average
Women tend to estimate that less is available for them
Women are less likely to ask for opportunities directly, more likely
to wait to be rewarded
Women, even CEO's, think more things are out of their personal
control than men
Why?
4. THE
STRUGGLE IS
REAL
Women lacked control over many aspects of their lives for
centuries- education, employment, voting, bodily autonomy, who
they marry, how they live out their gender identity
Women, femmes and POC STILL lack control over the finances,
positions of power in the world
Messages about gender roles are instilled from childhood
We notice how women are treated when they step out of the
bounds of expectations

7. A WORD ABOUT
LANGUAGE
The way we talk about ourselves matters
"I would just like to say that I may not know as
much as some of the communication experts
out there, but I feel that women undermine
their credibility time and time again by using
minimizing language."
"I'm confident", "I expect"

8. OWN
IT
Owning your success is
the key to achieving
more
Do I have to? YES- YOUR PERFORMANCE
DOES NOT SPEAK FOR ITSELF
People who make their accomplishments
known get more of them and more money
Hate the words "self-promotion?" Think of it
as "making your work visible."
9. THIRST NOT
SHAME
THIRST- public perfomance of lust or desire
SHAME- Humilation or pain directed at
oneself for perceived wrong doing
Where is the shame in being ambitious? In
wanting attention and fame? In wanting more
money and a wider audience?
Is there a way for you to enjoy your desires
instead of run from them?
10. MAKING YOUR
WORK VISIBLE
Understand your audience and use them wisely
Rely on the facts if you feel uncomfortable
Promote others widely and enthusiastically
Recognize: there is enough to go around and
there is no amount of space to take up that will
please everyone
Block liberally
