2. MARVEL'S PRACTICE BEFORE BEING PURCHASED
MY DISNEY IN 2009
The first Marvel film in the MCU was Iron Man in 2008, it made 585.2 million in the
global box office, which was a huge success for Marvel Studios. They hired Robert
Downey JR, which was a risk as he had a previous conviction in 19996 for
possession of cocaine, heroin and a pistol in his car when the police stopped him
for speeding. If Marvel had got sold to Disney a year later, he would never have
been cast as Iron Man. Because Disney would have never hired an actor who had
been addicted to illegal substances and violated his parole. After the success of the
first Marvel film Disney saw a door to success and bought Marvel out for $4 billion
dollars.
3. MARVELS PUBLISHIING SECTOR BEFORE 2008
• Born in New York City on December 28, 1922, Stan Lee went on to work for the
company that would eventually become Marvel Comics. With artist Jack Kirby, Lee
launched the superhero team the Fantastic Four in 1961, and was soon
responsible for creating popular characters like Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Hulk
and Thor.
4. INTERACTIVE SECTORS OF MARVEL BEFORE 2008
• Marvel had made lots of games before 2008, available on platforms such as Xbox,
PS4 and Nintendo, they were action games based on their popular comic
characters e.g. Wolverine, Spider-Man, Hulk, Iron man.
• Marvel made lots of their popular characters into action figures and fluffy toys.
