AS Media: Preliminary task – analysis and evaluation of PMS
Gossip Sheet’
Analysis of title:
I chose the title ‘PMS Gossip Sheet’ because it refers to the Sixth Form and Schools sociolect – ‘pms’, therefore
applies directly to my target audience. As well as the title being colloquial, I decided to use the term ‘gossip’ as
it relates to each individual as we all do; it also adds a little fun and life to the magazine. Moreover I used the
schools colour scheme, red and blue because it directly applies to each student. It also infers this symbol of
unity because as students we all share these colours therefore unity is ignited through the colour scheme.
Analysis of images:
I shot this image and used it as my focal image for my cover as it centralises the key themes which are being
addressed – the dress code. Furthermore the image alone doesn’t address the topic being spoken about it also
highlights the expectations which are expected at Plumstead Manor Sixth Form – ‘the slick standards of
business’. However the image also infers other attributes about Plumstead Manor students, as the eye-level
image captures a sense of unity, love and friendship, smiling students add to that idea.

Gossip Sheet’
Further evaluation:
I believe the font, font size and colour are efficient as they link with school colours therefore are relevant.
However I also believe I could have made my gossip sheet better by adding the school logo in the corner, which
would act as a signifying symbol, allowing students to know that this gossip sheet is related to the school.
Contents page: I tried to make the topics written about fun
and interesting to students, as I made sure they applied to
them e.g. personal statement information.
I wrote about results as its a common spoke about within schools. I
also listed the grades to portray the standard and expectation of
Plumstead Manor Sixth Form. This is not just relevant to Plumstead
Manor Sixth form alone but it is more of a broad topic as students,
parents, governing bodies’ e.c.t are interested.

“Success and
Over view: Harmony!”
Over view of ‘PMS Gossip
sheet’:
1) Generally as you can see
a clear, consistent colour
theme/layout is met
throughout the
magazine
constructing a sense of
simplicity appealing to
the age group.
2) Overall there’s not a
variety of images used
lacking creativity.
3) Creativity could have
been more of a focal
point.
4) Also the magazine
mirrors a similar
style/layout to previous
magazine and
newspapers suggesting
that individuality should
have been thought
about me.
More likeable image of the
Sixth Form as well as its
students.“ - Tanyaradzwa

“At first I was
opposed against the idea,
as I believed it stripped the
individual of their
individuality. They said “we
had choice,” however we
had none, as we had no
say. However I now believe
it will set students up for the
future preparing them for
the world of work, enabling
them with power and
professionalism.” - Chelsea
